I joined the 64gb ram master race

Reverse groomer.
low effort thread. I am just happy to be off 16gb. That's all.

It's still sad we need so much ram to run modern apps these days, though. 64gb was an unthinkable amount to me a while ago

it's DDR4 by the way.

I've been on 32 GB since 2020 and frankly I'm not sure if I would even benefit to any degree of upgrading to 64.
Is there even anything out there that benefits meaningfully of having that much?

DDR4? By the time you even need all 64gb, it will be too slow and outdated.

Video editing software says otherwise. Also, i just like having the extra headroom. I'll get 64GB DDR5 when I have a DDR5 motherboard. 🤷‍♂️
Yeah, photo and video editing, streaming while gaming, AI models, and so on.

If you just play games, 32GB is fine.

There are some cases where it might need that much but for 90% of things it won't need that much for awhile. However, a good upgrade from 16gb.

Might want to wait for DDR6 though.

Probably no games atm, but music production with lots of tracks with lots of plug-ins definitely benefits from more than 32gb ram.
That's not a use case for lots of folks, though.

64 is a safe bet for a while. 16 is the 8 and 32 is the 16. 32 will be safe for a while as well but with 32GB GPU's incoming, it's good to play it safe with 64. That's what I went from 32GB 6000 CL32 to 64GB 6000 CL30.

I have two thoughts:

1. I also use 64gb, congrats
2. Saying "master race" is still cringe

Thank you for coming to my ted talk

I ran out of ram the other day, and I have 64gb. I wasn't even gaming.

(But I was on my MacBook, which uses shared ram, working on gigantic art project files)

i wasnt being serious with the master race thing lol

99% of the time it's just a joke phrase. I'm just happy to have enough ram for the next 5 years

64GB is good for modded games and games like Skylines

Bust most of the time you will only need 16GB (even when some games ask 32GB)

sorry op, but no game is going to use that, and by having 64gb you've increased the addressable space which technically will make seeks somewhat slower than just having 16/32gb.

Wait till you go 128gb. I run a geospatial and remote sensing rig with 128gb ram. It's glorious.

Yeah, trying to decide if I want to build a rig with 64GB or 128GB of RAM with a 5090 or go for 128GB MBPro.

Got a side gig going and need lots of RAM/VRAM. Got a 3080Ti and 64GB Ram in my PC and 48GB in my MBPro 3. Neither is cutting it and running models in AWS/Azure is $$$.

So trying to decide which way to go. Chances are it is much easier to buy MBPro vs a 5090, lol.

Edit: What I really want is Mac Studio with more GPU cores, 128GB and M5.

Edit: Apple RAM prices are worse than Nvidia.

You plebs are JUST getting to what Weird Al had in the mid 90s!

Same. I have 16GB VRAM and 64GB RAM. I got sick of crashes when messing with hobbyist projects of mine. Stability is way better now. Doesn't really benefit games, of course.
