DualSense is the best controller of all time

But Adventure Third Person Over the Shoulder games and First person games in general are best with assymetrical. Only Fighters and platformers with Dpad controls are better with symetrical. I play Fighters also and I am used to both my hands and thumbs symetrical.
Basically for me whatever configuration has my thumbs further apart is better. Did anyone ever try putting the second stick where the buttons are? I guess there wouldn't be enough room for proper spacing of the buttos in that set-up.

I only use dpad for fighting games and the dualsense d pad stinks. Ds4 was much better for fighting games. 8bitdo clears both easily.
8bitdo have the advantage on the dpad but the abysmal angle of the grips/handles ruins their controllers for me.

Have you ever used a Steam Controller? They put their ABXY buttons where the right stick goes and it was horrendous.

I didn't hate the Steam controller as much as most but anything requiring common use of the buttons sucked.

8BitDo Ultimate 2 gets my vote. The Dualsense feels and looks great, and the haptics are good, but it has horrible battery life, stick drift, so-so build quality, and a crappy d-pad. The only thing I miss on the 8BitDo are the haptics.

It's top 3.

1. Gamesir Nova Pro
2. 8bitdo Ultimate 2
3. Dualsense (no.1 when features supoorted)

I wonder if FH5 will get a patch on steam for ds support.
You can basically force features if you use DSX. It's like $6 on Steam, but I think there is a free version as well.

I think gyro is exclusive to the paid version though.

I used to use that to play Forza and Halo before I bought them on Steam.

I just finished DeS on PS3 for the past 2 days. Controller (DualShock 3) still lasts for about 20 hrs, with a more than 15 year old battery in it.

DualSense on the other hand…

It has some nice feautures, but if you break it down to basic controller functions, it's not even the best of this generation. That award still belongs to Microsoft, build quality is just on another level, XBSX controller feels sturdy like a hammer, Dualsense feels good, but compared to Xbox controller it feels flimsy.

I don't really care about what s on the buttons, I get used to the layout.

It's like typing, if you want to be good at it, funny look at the input.
He means 6 face buttons instead of 4. He has a point, I shouldn't have to but a separate controller for fighting games.

Nothing stops you from buying a long USB cable for the controller and leave it wired. I use the charging station to charge my controllers and will never go back, not only the controller is fully charged everytime i use it but it also looks good when not in use. And the click sound it makes when you place it on top of the charger without needing to apply any kind of force is chef kiss.
Saying its extra work is like saying that having to place the controller on top of your coffee table is extra work compared to just drop it on the ground.
Huh? Just keep it plugged into the PS5 via usb. Why do you need it hard wired with some proprietary port?
DualSense is the future of PlayStation and no one should be disappointed by DualSense battery life.
DualSense feedback requires significantly more power than traditional rumble motors on conventional controllers.
Increased power consumption = increased battery drain = decreased battery life.
Prioritizing DualSense feedback by using an unlimited fixed power supply (wired connection) would remove battery life from the equation entirely.
It would be better to bundle PS5 consoles with a wired DualSense and offer optional wireless DualSense models.
In that situation any users unhappy with wires would get wireless DualSense.

Not every game offers DualSense feedback. If you're playing PS4 games, you'll get traditional rumble features yet the battery drain is just the same. It's even the same if you're streaming PS3 games via PSN.

That's nonsense. Most people will prefer wireless, despite the battery life. For those that don't, just plug it in. Besides, using USB over some custom connection means I can sit wherever I like and plug it in to a port next to me, instead of on the console itself. That eliminates the need for a super long cord stretched across the room.

A wired connection would also make it much less useful on anything other than a PS5.

I'm jealous.

Both of my DualShock 3s last maybe 20 minutes let alone 20 hours.

I really need to order new batteries for them.

Sorry but the Nintendo pro controller is a silent button controller with near perfect ergonomic, dual controller rumbles the entire time and everything clicks nervously

I don't understand the DS3 fans. That thing felt like a weightless toy. Like it was made of gossamer. I thought it was going to shatter in my hands during normal gameplay.

I felt like an ogre cradling a Fabergé egg.

It didn't even have rumble.

Nevermind I just remembered that was the Sixaxis, not DS3.

Wii U did this on the pro controller to stay consistent with the gamepad. It wasn't exactly broken, but I wasn't a huge fan.

It drastically changes the way the controls feel for some games. There is a very low travel time for your thumb between the lower face buttons and the lower right stick, and those buttons often get pressed hardly leaving the stick. Reversing the positions means to go from the bottom button to the stick, your thumb has to travel all the way over the face buttons and then back over again while the stick is dead. IE trying to jump and aim in a default FPS scheme is worse.

I just have rhe wrong sized, shaped hands for playstation. I've always developed cramp or had strange parts dig into me.

On the duel sense the wings of the controller are kind of awkwardly shaped. And I have a bit that digs in ever so slightly.

Xbox controller, switch pro, 8 bit do ultimate are all ergonomically perfect for me.

Duelsense is the best playstation controller i would say. It is a great controller and packs so much cool stuff. I actually don't like the haptic triggers for most games but I love thw haptic rumble. Games like astro bot are on another level compared to other platforms thanks to all the cool shit.

The dual sense layout is my enemy. Since I go with Xbox
I don't have this problem any more. The left stick is now in the right position.

When I move my left thumb forward I move forward.

On playstation I had to move my thumb to the left.

Sure this was just a personal preference. But I can't fight against my inner logic. I've played a lot ot ps1, 2.

I agree. Have been gaming since SNES and I don't see how this can be improved upon. Some small tweaks maybe, like a better dpad.

We all have different hands... So there is no "best controller".

I think that I heard a lot of time that the Xbox One / Series controller is the best, I use it on PC but I don't really like it. It is a little bit too big, heavy, and the buttons make too much noise.

The DualSense controller is better, but I don't like the battery life, it still feels a little bit too heavy. And I don't like the left stick at the bottom.

While the Switch Pro Controller doesn't have analog triggers (really useful only for racing games), I really like the comfort I get when using it. This is already the best controller to hold for me, I'm curious about the Switch 2 Pro Controller (heard good things about the feeling of the sticks, the HD rumble 2 and the soft texturing).

Overall, I think that there is no bad controller nowadays. And there is no "best controller" either, we're not all the same. The Xbox controller lacks too many features though.

I bought my PS5 in 2020 and the dual sense that came with it just now developed stick drift. This one has the newer green joysticks that were suppose to be better quality than the launch dual sense controllers with the blue joysticks. I am by no means hard on my controller and do not eat while gaming. Shocked that this controller is already ruined. Meanwhile my DS4 controllers and Xbox controllers are still working fine. Guess i'll buy some hall effect sticks and solder them on. These controllers are junk, just like joycons.

If the battery was a fair bit larger (last longer) id agree.
I had temporary stick drift on the 1st edition till i blew the dush n crap out. Worked like new after that.

Its a damn comfortable controller in my big hands and i love the haptics.

I like the DualSense but there's something about it that makes it painful for me to use over prolonged periods. I'm not sure if it's the total width, or the weight, or the way the 'wings' are designed on each side, or a combination of these things. But when playing a game on the PS5 for a while, I have to put it down frequently to prevent pain.

I don't get that pain using the Xbox Series controller but the clickity-clack of every damn button on the XS controller annoys the living shit out of me. Feels like I'm using a cheap toy that's going to break.

Both of them have asstastic build quality. My PS5 pack-in DualSense developed stick drift after only six months and that was with alternating between it and a black one I bought the same time I got my PS5. My pack-in Xbox Series controller had a defective right bumper and "A" face button out of the box. 🙄

I dunno. If I could shave a few centimeters off the width of the DS and a few grams off the weight, while improving overall battery life, then I might call it my favorite. Right now they're both kinda underwhelming. Especially when barely anyone outside of Team Asobi bothers using the DS to its full potential.

Ever since the PS3 reveal/launch, I was primarily an Xbox gamers up until late 2023-early 2024. I thought nothing could beat the Xbox series controller. For reasons outside the scope of this topic, I traded my Series console for a PS5 Slim and grew accustomed to the DualSense layout. Recently I bought a series controller for steam and it just felt too small now. I wish more releases on Steam supported the DualSense. I hate playing indie games with the Xbox button prompts while playing with the DualSense.

I got the Dual Sense Edge, easily best controller I have used. Feels ultra premium too. Button replacement are all high quality, you can change sticks too (never had problems with the sticks on Edge) plus all the bells and whistles of regular Dual Sense.

I love also its integration with PS5 UI, and usability with my Elite plus headset (I like adjusting game/party audio mix through the controller, also adjusting the volume through the controller) intuitive stuff

They are cool controllers with some neat features. Build quality pristine though? Sorry but after having gone through two controllers (that were very well looked after) because of stick drift, I have to disagree there.

This.

They look nice, they got some cool features, usability is very good but the (mediocre) build quality and stick drift are real...

...then again, ALL controllers have been utter shite this gen when it comes to build quality, Xbox ones have bumper buttons that break easily (Hello FROM fans !) plus mushy A/Y buttons, vibration motors that shit the bed easily (they get dislodged) and as for the Nintendo joycons, well, we all know about the free repairs that Ninty has to honor with them.

I must have changed 4 Xbox controllers and 2 Dualsenses so far - and it's not because "I don't take care of my stuff" but because they simply they don't make them like they used to...

I don't know whether this is planned obsolescence or just companies doing terrible QC and being stingy with components.

PS: The Dualsense that came with my Pro decided to just die on me (literally) after not even 2 months in.
The 2nd dualsense I got 1+ years ago developed stick drift a few weeks back which - thank the heavens - I was able to fix by spraying some contact cleaner through the analogue stick's cap and doing some rotations after that for 1-2 mins straight.

As far as mainstream consoles go- yea im gonna have to agree. I also really like the Switch Pro controller.
I cant speak for third party shit.

It lasted you 4.5 years…

Great controllers except for the fact they make them less compatible every release. Irritating.
