Any thoughts on this build? Is everything compatible? Is the PSU sufficient enough for upgrades of other components in the future? Any CPU cooler alternatives? Also what do people use to drive 250 Ohm headphones these days? I still use an audio card but do people do this via external methods now? Is it something a motherboard can handle? And speaking of which is the motherboard I've chosen any decent or should I go for something else as far as DDR5 support and Intel CPU upgrades go? Thanks.

I mainly want to play multiplayer games at 1440p running at 120-144fps at medium to high graphics in the future (which is something I do already on the build spoilered below but with more and more compromises obviously). I don't mind playing singleplayer titles, with all the bells and whistled turned to max, at 90fps or there about. Right now I'll be transferring a 1080ti from my old PC to the new one to hopefully upgrade to a 3000-series card in the future.

Right now the gaming difference between ddr4 and 5 is non-existent so go for 4. I'd go for the 12600k over the 12700k since they perform identically.

Coming from a guy who is provided free samples and run an ad supported channel. I'm sure these companies aren't paying him in some way to help them sell out of current gen before the next gen arrives.


I have been hell bent on buying the noctua 3080 that was announced a few months back and it was announced for early JUNE release. Today is the first day I've seen it available to buy. I have checked every day since June 1. It's what I've been planning for as a second build for months, but I just can't bring myself to buy it now. It's also $1000 and I could get a 3080ti for nearly the same price. I'm going to try and wait for next gen and see what happens. I don't need the damn thing in the first place. Before 980ti gen I never paid more than $500 for a gpu. I had a near panic after buying a 980ti for $700. Now I own a $1500 rtx3090 and now considering a second $1000 gpu....

I watched the JayZ video and I didn't really hear him mention anything about the Digitimes article claiming Nvidia was looking to delay production by 1 or 2 quarters. His info seems old. Also, I don't think we've hit the bottom as far as pricing for used mining cards. I don't believe we're even seeing the vast majority of these cards being sold just yet.

His advice is if you want a card just buy it now, but with 3000 series cards in-stock all over, I don't see the urgency, or the harm in waiting to see used options from mining cards. Lowest new card I've seen for 3080 is $789. Used 3080s are at around $650. 4070 should be around 3080 or a little better. Maybe at $600 msrp, but who knows?

I'll revisit this post in a month to see if 3080s suddenly sold out, and mining cards never became cheaper more available by then.

All of my cooling is Noctua and would love to have a theme going with that card. Not for that price though. I have a 6800xt plus, and with 40XX around the corner, thats a no go. It would be nice if they come out with a 4 series card though.

A 5600X3D would be a really nice CPU for gaming.

Would be pointless for amd to make considering the cost of the cache and they want binned silicon for the 5800x3d due to it already having lower clocks than the vanilla 5800x. Plus with such a beastly single core perf the 8 core x3D has room to grow when 8 cores becomes the new sweet spot.

5600x3d would be pretty much tapped on release and clocked lower than the 8 core because of non binned chips

I’d go with a 12 GB 3080 if you’re going to make that jump. Some of the gigabyte brand 12GB can be has for around $800. Otherwise just keep the 3070.

For laptops and gaming performance it will usually come down to the TDP/power limit. I have a Asus TUF Dash F15 3060 that I got for a good deal in early 2021. However, it's limited to 85W, so it performs similar to a 130W 2060 laptop. The Amazon listing for your Gigabyte K1 says 140W max graphics power, so that will be a good gaming laptop.

I have been looking to upgrade to a 17. The other thing I hate about this laptop are the speakers. My previous laptop blows it out of the water and it's jarring. I don't want to hook up speakers/phones every time I want to listen to something.

Look at Sager or eluktronics, direct buy for cheaper.

I'm personally looking at the alienware x17. The AMD m17 model does not have a 4k gsync so you are stuck with 6700m which is a joke for trying to game in 4k. The x17 has great cooling and everything else I want in a laptop, just way too expensive right now. It's not the fastest, but it looks great and cools well. The model I want is more than double $1500, what I paid for the g15.

I do like the specs of this one. It's from the Outlet store and uses last years Raptor Lake CPU, but it aint bad specs wise. $1650 is still too expensive.

The shell of the alienware is a lot better than most. It's the reason I like it a lot. It's thin and sleek, doesn't have weird lumps. Previous models I never even considered, also the cooling is better than most this generation. I'm not averse to paying more for something that has higher quality. I'm also looking at the model that is 3080/4k. So it's outrageously expensive compared to other models.

The g15 I have, I fell for all the reviews gushing over it and should have waited on it. I half knew I would be disappointed with 15" and was right. If there was a 17" version I'd be happy.

My previous was a bottom barrel razer 17. It was the only brand that had a 17 screen with mux at the time. I loved it, but I didn't like their newer models.


Yeah, I don't know the models for your range. The mux switch should be a standard feature, but it seems to be a pain to get a hold of. gsync+mux is a rare thing it seems.

I very incorrectly assumed GSYNC would be a standard feature in laptops with high refresh rate screens and nvidia GPUs so I never bothered to look for it to be sure. Based on my experience with the Lenovo now I can’t even be sure if it will support it even if the fucking spec sheet says it does.

Hello everyone, I am picking up an old PC from a friend. It is unused but it has slightly old 2080 TI.

It has a 14 Core/28 i9 thread processor and 64 gig ram which is why I purcahsed it for Lab (Networking lab) related use.

is 2080ti good for GameCube/PS2/switch emulators ? Might squeeze in some gaming.

I don't really know the comparison in scores or fps. For me, I live half my life on the road, so I want the best experience I can when I'm away from home. When I'm shopping for a laptop, I look for features that I need and try to find the best machine to do it.

If you're not someone that needs the biggest feature of a laptop, portability, don't bother. They come with all sorts of tradeoffs that I would not consider worth the buy in. You can build your own desktop machine in SFF (small form factor) that's just as powerful as any machine you see for sale and 1/4 the size. You pay a little extra for some of the smaller components but the benefit is a tiny package that you can update with new hardware whenever you want.

As someone looking to get back into PC gaming and wouldn't mind going the laptop route, how would a 3070ti or 3080ti laptop compare to a series x and ps5?

They would blow the PS5 and XSX out of the water, but you will pay at around 4X -5X ($2000 at least) as much for that privilege.

How much more do you guys think prices will drop before they sell all the old cards? I've pretty much decided to jump on the 3080 12gb I want if it hits $700. $800 right now and it's going in and out of stock

Well the leftover stock when next gen is out will drop even more. That noctua card when it was available on newegg sold out in a day or 2. I've been eyeing so many cards but I'm trying to hold out for another price drop. Unfortunately when that comes the leftovers will be all the cards most people don't want even now.

I saw newegg had the msi suprimx 3080 ti for under $1000. But unless I go for another psu I have to stick to 3080 10g so i don't blow it up.

IIRC the 3080 12gb is just a slightly cut down 3080 ti, and definitely judging by the benchmarks I don't see any reason to get the TI.

I really don't see any reason to get the 3090 either unless for some reason you needed the vram.

Will raptor lake support pci-e 5.0 ssd’s or only pci-e videocards? Looks like there will only be 16 pci-e lanes if I’m not mistaken?
