I thought this kind of thread would be an good idea. We kinda need a place to discuss this movie.

Some news just came out too:

Independence Day 2 Set 15 Years Later When Aliens Have Returned

Fox joins fellow returning cast members Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, and Brent Spiner, along with newcomers Liam Hemsworth and Sela Ward.

The movie will come out next year. Again directed by Herr Emmerich.

Here is another story related quoted from Emmerich:

“The humans knew that one day the aliens would come back. And they know that the only way you can really travel in space is through wormholes. So for the aliens, it could take two or three weeks, but for us that’s 20 or 25 years.”

“It’s a changed world. It’s like parallel history. [Humans] have harnessed all this alien technology. We don’t know how to duplicate it because it’s organically-grown technology, but we know how to take an antigravity device and put it in a human airplane.”

Despite the progress that has been made, Emmerich insists that the fight won’t be an easy one, saying that, “We’ve rebuilt. But [the aliens] also do different things.”

You guys ready?

welcome to earf

I was excited about it but after the abomination that was White House Down I'm not really sure this is going to turn out to be any good.

ID4 and Stargate were Emmerich's only good films. I doubt he can strike gold twice.

I'd be okay if this flopped if it meant he wouldn't get funding to reboot Stargate.

Hopefully they reversed engineered the Alien tech to create Jets that switch into Bipedal robots, and something inbetween.

On one hand I'm genuinely excited for this as I love the origninal ID4. For as cheesy as it is it's like the ideal popcorn summer blockbuster movie and I still enjoy watching it after all of these years.

On the other hand I'm terrified and not expecting much, as Emmerich has not made anything good since ID4 and Stargate.

So, hesitantly excited? Skeptically hyped? Waiting for reviews first......

He died in the first movie though?

Also, no Will Smith hurts this movie massively

I'm in but not having Smith on board (while having some of the original cast reprise their rolls) will be a bit of a distraction. However they choose to write off his absence it'll just be weird.

Also, I can't wait to see how a united humanity is depicted in this film. I love alt history sic-fi.

In this decision he is. People are gonna get excited for that movie and the overall DC Cinematic Universe. Even if it sucks, it'll make bank.

I think of think that Independence Day 2 w/ Will Smith would generate more cash than Suicide Squad w/ Will Smith

Suicide Squad will probably be a better movie though

this is the most excited ive ever been for a movie

I'm mostly curious to see how ID4's future from the end of the movie is different than ours is in reality.

They have all this crashed alien tech, wonder what we made of it in this alternate future.

I'm excited.

Plot synopsis:

David discovers a secret encrypted message hidden inside of Candy Crush game invites on Facebook that are being used to secretly coordinate alien attacks around the globe. Unfortunately he only has time to warn Ex-President Whitmore who commandeers a cargo plane and they escape just as the last remaining cities are attacked. They end up traveling around the globe to save David's young daughter, who he never mentioned before at all, and they arrived just in the nick of time to help her fend off the Alien menace. In the skirmish, she takes out several Aliens using skills she learned in gymnastics. David has an epiphany and figures out if he just uses Fakeblock, he can stop the Aliens' game invites and turn their own signal against them. Eventually they team up with a group of drunk ass pilots who seem to be the only ones capable of destroying the Alien spaceships above and launch a final battle after an amazing speech by Whitmore. Everyone smokes cigars at the end, the end.

i would expect the earth to get rocked this time considering the first mini attack failed due to underestimating us.

I think the real problem is that we don't have the same President leading the U.S. We'll be going from a badass who wants to fight the aliens himself to someone that has only ever been a politician with little experience.

Partially joking, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's accurate.

This is one of the few franchise revivals I'm excited for.

I don't have high hopes for either but I'm still down for SS. Kinda shaky on this, though. But I like to reserve myself for the first trailer at least.
Also if he doesn't die this will probably lead to more movies. I don't see ID3 happening, or if it does being good.

Also true.
