Does anyone here watch this? It's really good. The basic concept is like The Simple Life except it's 7 girls from different Kpop groups. Only two of them know each other from the start, and there are MCs who are older and kind of watch over the girls and frequently offer their very different perspective on everything. Of course, there is quite a range with the girls themselves as their ages are 17-29 with more and less experience in the music industry. They have an old farm they all live on and work to improve while also doing work in the local community. It has ended up being really hilarious most of the time with a dash of drama.

Haha. My friend is a huge SNSD fan and his favorite member is Yuri, so he links me youtubes of the show all the time as he watches it religiously. Unfortunately for him, he said Yuri is leaving the show next month, so I don't know what he'll do now.

Korea-GAF, what say you?

Yeah I watch it, assists me in learning the language and it's also pretty funny / I'm a pop fan. Never thought I'd see a neogaf thread for it.

Sunny is amazing.. she's always the tough one and you can see how much she loves having that 'role'. Always trying to outdo the others in chicken catching or what have you.

The concept gets a bit same-y, but prejudice against empty-headed pop stars actually serves you wrong here, because it's the girls chemistry and inventiveness that keeps this entertaining. Shame about the three leaving, prob won't be the same.

In the first episode when Yuri was like "day by day, i come closer [to fully cooking the rice]..." it was so funny. I'm friends with a few Korean girls and they like to use subtle humor like that. Is it culturally common? I love it. And yeah, Sunny being so tough and down to earth really wins you over. I kind of just started watching so I'll probably come back here and post thoughts as I go through the episodes.

This is unrelated but I think I'm going to go see Wonder Girls and 2PM with the aforementioned friends. They are doing a US tour US and I could get tickets for $27. Many Koreans would probably be very jealous to find out we get such a deal!

...so what sort of audience goes to K-pop group US tours?

Well I'm near Chicago so I expect quite a bit of Koreans will be there. Sure there will be some weeaboo types (what is a weeaboo for Korea called?), but whatever. It's not a convention, it's a concert.

Is Korea like the new Japan or something in terms of weeaboos? :lol
I think all the North Korea stuff has drawn attention to the area, and I also think their culture is more similar to the US than Japan. They are also more open to receiving Americans, more often speak English and promote to the US, and it is increasingly popular to go teach English there for a while after college. Despite more history of familiarity, Japan remains strange to foreigners, somewhat isolated, and holds high standards that makes staying there harder.

But let's not derail the thread!

Hara is my favorite because she is so free spirited even though the atmosphere, while friendly, is still competitive and self-conscious. People are always bringing her unbecoming behaviors to her attention.

"Do you like the butt dance??? lalalalalala laalalalalala laalalalalalalala" :lol

I love seeing them interact with all the people who have no idea who they are. It might knock their pride a bit but you can tell it's also very refreshing to them.

So f(x)'s Victoria is one of the replacements to be introduced. Interesting as she's not Korean and hasn't become totally fluent in the language yet.

Watching Family Outing as well at the moment. Not the new family 2, but the old season, with Lee Hyori being the most awesome you could possibly be in a show like this. Talk about a laid-back star.

Geez man about 10 seconds of Google should find you a place. I know some but I don't know if it crosses the ToS to name anything specific and I play on the safe side around here.

Yeah, Victoria still has an accent even when singing. Interesting decision. For one of the new girls they should blatantly pick someone to be the new maknae in place of Hyuna.

So yeah I'm really into this show now. Not sure if this is sad or not but it's my replacement for Lost. :lol I first got into it because I was interested in SNSD, but I really like all the rest of the "idols" on the show. It's sort of like The Simple Life but instead of acting like douches they're actually doing stuff to help out the community.

(BTW I think "maknae" is just whoever's youngest.)

Just finished the 12th episode. I really like this show! My favorite thing about it is how open/down-to-earth they are about their blatant efforts to make somewhat mundane things more interesting, always referencing to getting airtime and ratings. I guess that's more typical of late night programming, as this is, but it's still fun to see because usually reality shows try to pretend there is no show happening and treat the viewer like someone who is part of the group.

Hara is still my favorite on the show, closely followed by Hyomin
OMG BOTH SO CUTE ALL THE TIIIME~ <3<3
but I think Sunny seems like she's a really cool person IRL. It's weird that Nam Hee Suk left and I wonder what that is about. I liked him on the show but he did seem to grow distant from the action in the episodes before he left.

Finished the 20th episode now. I think it's really interesting where they're going with it. You can tell it was difficult for them to stay original through the winter, but now that it's warming up they'll be doing all sorts of farming projects and have something more than just entertainment come out of it. I hope there continues to be a reliable source for english translations now that the SNSD members are leaving. I only know of one other and they're uncertain if they'll continue.

Just got done watching EP28 where they put up the signs for Idol Village. They were worried that someone would come and vandalize the signs, I'm thinking a real diehard fan might come and just take them.

Hopefully some of the crews doing Family Outing and stuff like that will take on this show.

Farewell episode looks like a tearjerker in this preview! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haeuRw-YUGQ
Yeah that looks sad but I'm still excited to see fresh new people on the show. It'll be interesting seeing the girls who've been there for a while showing the new ones the ropes. I'm just glad Narsha isn't one of the girls leaving:

Man, I can't even watch that preview. I just saw the pre-play still of Hyomin reading a letter crying and had to back out.

I like the three that are leaving, but I like all of G7 and the others have really come into their own. I'll miss Sunny the most, but it should be interesting with the new girls around. Sure enough, they have a new distant maknae in Sori. It will also be quite a shift for me to be watching the show as it releases since I just blasted through all of this past season, but I feel like the happening-as-it-goes thing is part of the fun which I have been missing.

Just finished the 26th episode. As long as the show has Hyomin, Hara and Narsha, I will definitely watch. That makes it sounds like I don't like Sunwha, but she's cool too. However, she is mostly cool by the way she is distinct, not necessarily by her leading or contribution, so she needs the others there to be interesting to me. People think that about Hyomin, but I think people don't realize how strong and interesting she is because while she demonstrates it all the time, she directs it to Sunny. I really think she flows into Sunny more than she flows out from her, so when Sunny is gone her qualities will be seen because the SunByung interpretation of her actions won't camouflage what is there. I only have up to the 29th episode, so I'm closing in on the "will have to wait for each new episode" mode. I'm thinking my language studies and Peace Walker will fill my free time then.

I've seen episode 29, so that's just one or two more before they leave, right? Nervous about who will be subbing.

Just saw the preview for the new guests arrival. Bound to be awkward for a while, which is good.

Episode 33 is the first show with the new cast members. f(x) and After School have pretty dedicated fanbases so hopefully someone will pick it up.

Why do these shows have to be so noisy? Constant sound effects, text flashing on the screen, laughter in the background--all of it is distracting from the show itself.

Damn this show is addicting, I'm not into kpop at all but I catch myself with a cheesy grin watching this show :D I watched 17-30 then finished from episode 1. Seeing MC Nam there at the beginning was kind of a shock, but I think he realized how much actual farm work they were going to be doing and bailed out as soon as he could :lol

I'm kind of glad that Yuri is leaving as she is too perfect. Sunny really vibed well with everyone and became my favorite. I'll miss the Sunny/Hyomin and the Hara/Hyuna dynamic duos, but as long as the show has the current MCs it should work, especially Shinyeong as she really get's the girls out of their shells.

Finished watching the farewell episode 32. It was really bittersweet as I feel it was the best episode with the OG IY cast. Everything from Hyuna crushing on a college kid to Sunny's singing in the field was too good.

I don't really see Yuri or Hyuna ever coming back as guests, but I'm glad that Sunny has already come back as a guest for a special IY Japan episode.

That was so sad but so good. The first half was hilarious. Yes, I cried a little at the end, I hate seeing girls cry, esp Hyomin who is my favorite.

The show is great because it's entertaining but teaches you new things and shows you a new culture (rural Korea) yet keeps reminding you what the truly important things in life are. This show is a passing thing, and (as they are made aware by the elders) even their glamorous pop star careers are passing things. As they go, they stop to recognize that, and you see how valuable the experiences working with each other are.

At the end here they focused on that, how in life we say goodbye and later see each other again, and while we are apart we meet new people who become important to us as well. I know it is simple wisdom, but it's easy to get too focused on our current tasks and forget the precious nature of relationships or the hope for them in the future. As I am learning Korean and making temporary friendships with international student through it, it is good to have this show reminding me of that side of things, but also the real reason why I'm learning it and the value in it.

I usually don't watch TV anymore because it is often so pointless, but this is one of the best shows ever. I think all TV should have these elements, no matter what type of show it is. I'd say good example in a scripted one is MASH.

Next episode the three newcomers (including f(x) member Victoria *drool*) will join, and Kim Jong Min (really awesome guy) will be a guest for four weeks.
