Is Stardew Valley the only “cozy” game that doesn’t suck?

Ngl, I think I might be somewhat of a fan of this genre, but it seems like all the games are utter trash, except for Stardew Valley, and your random Harvest Moon title.

Any others worth checking out?

I’m playing Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town at the moment and I’m having a good time with it. From what I gather, Story of Seasons is basically just the more recent versions of Harvest Moon, they just changed the name for some reason. It’s pretty basic, but it’s relaxing to me just going about doing the daily chores and keeping up with the farm.

Depends but if you want a similar game, check out the SNES Harvest Moon which actually has an ending. Granted, I hated that it ended as a kid lol. They fixed it on the PS1 and HM64 (I like these more).

But for farm sims, Stardew is GOAT

My cozy games are mostly shooters, immersive sims and real-time strategy games from the late 90s and early 2000s.

As far as games that are actually designed to be cozy go, I enjoyed all of the Professor Layton games, even that utterly ridiculous Ace Attorney crossover.

Not necessary a harvest moon type game, but dragon quest builders are super relaxing and charming to play. Wife sunk a good hundred hours in these two games.

Tbh I liked A Short Hike.

Yes, came to mention that one.

In fact, I liked A Short Hike so much, I thought I might like other so-called 'cozy' games. So I tried several - and I didn't like them. Too much cooking and planting and harvesting and serving and collecting. It just seemed tedious to me.

A Short Hike was great, though. Only takes about 4 hours. Very charming.

I'm not really sure what aspects of a game make it "cozy", but Viva Pinata was highly regarded in its day.

I've been getting into Elite Dangerous after getting it for free on Epic games and can definitely see the relaxing and even therapeutic gameplay loops it has if you're looking to just zone out stress free for a bit. It even runs great on a miniPC hooked up to a G3 77in OLED. Great controller support as well.

I'll check this out. I really appreciate how you can listen to in-game lore podcast style while just flying around and build your own playlist on the ship HUD. It's one of the most intuitive UIs that really keeps the immersion factor there.
it's a really cozy game to play, I have a VR headset and it's such a cool experience - you really appreciate the scale of things when you see them so upclose in 3D.

I stopped playing around the time the expansion released, it ran extremely poorly and had really barebone features and i keep meaning to jump back in and see how well it plays now

Grim Fandango is a cozy game for me, especially in Year 2.
Also Day of The Tentacle.
Been meaning to try Grim Fandango. I love Tim Schafer and this might the only big game of his I haven't played.

Love Day of the Tentacle but unfortunately I don't find point and click games very repayable. I've played pretty much all the LucasArts point and click games.
Animal Crossing, Rune Factory titles and the "My Time at..." series are great.
Couldn't get into the first 2 (only tried newest Animal Crossing)

I think the My Time At games are on Gamepass, or at least one of them. Might check it out.
I like Fantasy life, it's basic as fuck but it's fun to level up all the jobs without much challenge exploring the new zones.
never heard of it ill check it out
Tbh I liked A Short Hike. Finished it in one sitting. The character design in Stardew is too jarring for me, it’s dreadful. Not been able to get in to it.
I'll check out a short hike, seems to be popular here
Manor Lords, you can chose to play without combat and is really relaxing.
been eyeing this

ok I got tired of quoting u guys

I'm not really sure what aspects of a game make it "cozy"

The main qualities are that it's relaxing and has easy gameplay. There is usually very little violence, and the characters are cute. That's the gist of it.

Cozy games, for me, are games where you can be sheltered from the elements. Like if I have a house and I can do stuff while it's raining outside.
Games like Fallout 4, Subnautica are cozy by this definition.
