That´s around 5k per week and outside the top 30 even though both Medica Create and Dengeki reported much higher chart positions. Could it be that Famitsu lower the numbers on purpose to make the LTD number match what Nintendos has shipped?? Since I think Famitsus total is too high.
Did they learn these methods from ioi? :D
I was going to comment on the same thing. Media Create had Yawaraka Atamajuku at 1,043,298 as of Jan 22/06, whereas Famitsu had it at 1,109,928 as of Jan 22/06. So Famitsu was tracking the game about 65,000 units higher than Media Create. For March, it looks as though Media Create probably had Yawaraka at about 55,000 - 60,000 for the month, compared to just over 20,000 for Famitsu. So basically, it appears as though Famitsu just kind of slowed down its tracking a bit in order to bring it more it line with where Media Create is at. Of course, it could also be the opposite - that Media Create accelerated its sales for the game this month in order to get closer to Famitsu.

That's probably just weird coincidence, but I've seen it happen with several games over the past few months. The most notable example was Tamogotchi, where Media Create was tracking the game much higher (in the area of 100,000 or so) than Famitsu for the first few months, and then all of a sudden, Famitsu sales for the game just spiked to a really weird level for several weeks, and closed the gap, and even pulled ahead of Media Create. It makes me wonder if Nintendo or other companies don't periodically contact either Famitsu or Media Create (or vice versa) to update them from time to time with their own internal numbers on certain games. It's just interesting to follow, because the vast majority of the time, Famitsu and Media Create track very closely together - and then it is weird when you do see the odd examples where there is a sizable discrepancy, and then all of a sudden several months down the road, the discrepancy ends up being resolved within just a few weeks anyway.

Does anyone know if/when Namco and Bandai will publish games under one name?
I remember reading this article a while back, which states that Bandai Namco Games was supposed to open its doors on March 31/06.

Looks like Media Create is right about this one at least. Yawaraka Atamajuku must have sold better in March. It doesn't make sense that it follows the sales pattern of the original brain training closely for seven months and then goes down to zero when bt still sells in large amounts. The graph bellow shows weekly sales according to Famitsu, where interpolation is used for Yawaraka (Gentle BE) in March.

I agree completely with this point of view.

The difference is that instead of being able to go back like I can and just adjust all the Everything and Nothing figures to match (Brain Flex is the first game in a long time with a scale factor I have used of less than 1- it's about 0.97) then they have to make adjustments another way since they have been simply overtracking the title by quite a large amount and have already officially published their previous charts. Do people at least begin to believe me now that the supposedly crazy methods I use to post-adjust data when we have more information is all that different to what these tracking services would do themselves if they could?

As I'm sure you would expect, I think my figures for Brain Flex are a fairer reflection of sales trends so far, as they do not have this huge drop off in Mar as you have also spotted (I have been wondering about this myself for a few weeks now) and tie in more closely with the actual shipped figures:

I think I have every right to with all the stick I get from you guys :p

And thanks to CVX for the figures, I'll use them as normal to update E&N charts in the near future...

Does anyone have the latest numbers on actual released first/third party games? I recently tried a method of assigning the unaccounted to first and third parties, but I think it was pretty flawed. For instance, Nintendo had 81.8% of the DS game sales from the top 100 this month, so my guesstimate would give them 81.8% of the unaccounted as well. That would be 87,751.

The 100th ranked game sold 7,127, though, so everything below would be lower. So for that 87,751 guesstimate to even be possible, Nintendo/Pokémon would have to have something like 13 titles hovering right below the list, or maybe 25 averaging half of that. Considering how long some of their titles stick around the top 100, though, it seems that they'd be a minority of the sub-100 games.

Seconding cvxfreak's CODE complaint. Neo-variable width-Age for the lose.

I don't get what you want to do but I can answer your question. Through March 26:
# DS first party = 34
# DS third party = 131
Total number of DS games = 165
# PSP first party = 30
# PSP third party = 133
Total number of PSP games = 163

(re-releases not counted)

Well I think what he is trying to do is get a better feel for the "unaccounted" games. If for example there were 30 Nintendo games in the top 100 (there are only 17) then it would only mean 4 below 100 so they would likely not occupy the same kind of ratio as the Nintendo/third party split we get from the top 100.

It's one of these things we will probably never know JJS, to be honest I'd be inclined to say about a 50-50 split even though from Rock_Man's data we'd have around 120 third party to 17 first party DS games below 100k the Nintendo titles do tend to perform better.

If you wanted to investigate further it would probably be easier to try to estimate the 17 Nintendo games and take the total from that from the total unaccounted which could be done with a reasonable accuracy, and would probably be the best way you'd have of estimating the data you want.

Edit:

For example, Princess Peach has been tracking about 80% of Pokemon Trozei so I'd expect it to be just off that chart, about 7k, Kirby's Canvas has been hanging around the bottom of the top 100 as well, so about another 6k for that, MP Pinball, Yoshi, Ouendan, Jam with the Band, Pokemon Dash doing a few thousand (2-4k) while titles like Another Code, Polarium, Electroplankton, Advance Wars etc have dropped right away and will probably be sub 1k by now (you can get an idea from E&N as to which games have dropped right off based on the yearly data we had for 2005 and the extrapolation through the later months that was done to match up with the totals which in many cases weren't much higher than when the games dropped off the charts back in say march of that year or whatever). In fact doing a rough tally from that I get around 40k so probably more like 40% of the unaccounted total, certainly less than the 80% you have assumed as most of the strong sellers are still in the top 100 as you suspect.

That should certainly give you a fair idea when accounting for the Nintendo titles as all of them should be included.

Yawaraka hasn't done that well on Amazon's charts in the month of March, so the drop off seems in line. Still, with the amount of DS Lites on the market, I expected it to do at least 50K for the month.

I think a sequel is in order.

Uh, we're talking like 6 people with a development time of a few weeks.

Oh don't worry, I'd be very suprised if Brain Training 3, Brain Flex 2, Nintendogs 2 (Nintencats) and so on aren't in the works. As you say with minimal development costs it's basically printing money so I'd have throught Nintendo will be on top of it...

I wonder where Mario Kart DS will ultimately end up. It's legs are longer than I previously thought. Since the comparison's been brought up already... anyone think GT3's 1.6 Million can be surpassed there?

Well its without a doubt that for the rest of the year the DS and the PS2 will be sitting really comfortably on top. The real question will be, can Zelda TP alone push the GC above the GBA and PSP by the end of the year? :D
probably not.

it's time for revolution.

Hmmm, the most I think Mario Kart DS can muster would be 1.45m

Who knows if it last around 20k for as long as June, then I will change my mind. I think it will get a few more bumps when New Super Mario Bros. comes out and other Hardware surges though so it could very well pass 1.6m

Well I've said before 1.75m seems about right at the moment, but GT3 did 1.89m when all was said and done and I don't see it passing that to be honest. If you compare with MK64 it's following a very similar pattern so far:

http://everythingandnothing.org.uk/vg/japcomp.php?name1=Mario+Kart+64&name2=Mario+Kart+DS

I can't see it having the same long-term legs as MK64 (2-3 years down the line) as there will be a lot more DS games out by then than there ever were on the N64 so more competition (although if you look, all MK games have long legs). Having said that, I can see it following a similar pattern as MK64 for the rest of the year, which would put it on around 1.55-1.60m by the end of the year and maybe another 100-200k after that so 1.65-1.80m is pretty safe.

Comparing directly to GT3:

http://everythingandnothing.org.uk/vg/japcomp.php?name1=Mario+Kart+DS&name2=Gran+Turismo+3

We're quite a way behind still and while I can see some ground being made up (as GT3 really started to drop away week 20 onwards) I think it's too steep a hill to climb. Should get close though...
