Japanese Music (Pop, rock and all 'dat) |OT|

I am! I'm thinking of cosplaying Heavenly-era Hyde, too. Their newer stuff doesn't stick with me as much anymore, but I still like them, especially their older songs. Their Baltimore concert was my first rock concert, in fact.

Getting psyched!

Oh man, I'm totally not into the whole look anymore but I definitely want to just do it for laughs when I go.

And MONKEY MAJIK is awesome. Even though I've stopped keeping up with J-Music, I still pick them up whenever I hear they have something new :)

Been listening to this little gem of an album the last few weeks:
RsJ6G.jpg

Salyu, a japanese pop artist with a great voice, on an album produced by none other than Cornelius himself. They combine to create this

Salyu x Salyu - ただのともだち Live

I think it's freakin' amazing. Best pop album I've listened to in quite some time. Just pure fun, style and good vibes. Great voice, great production, makes me feel fine all day.

the amazing title track - s(o)un(d) beams

And Mirror Neurotic, maybe a more 'accessible' track

You all probably know by now but

Perfume are going to be the host at VMAJ!

You can watch the VMAJ CM here

They also released a Spring of Life teaser
It looks like they're going back to their electronic roots, which I'm extremely hyped about (ystk<3). Looks like Universal isn't going to let us down either :D

Plus, Laser Beam has been nominated for best dance video and best choreography!

You can vote for Best Choreography here: http://agilemedia.jp/vmaj2012/vote/sp/index.php?question_id=365
and Best Dance Video here: http://agilemedia.jp/vmaj2012/vote/sp/index.php?question_id=362

Scroll down to Perfume and click the red button, you'll have to vote via Twitter or Facebook and you can only do it once per day. Ends 8th of June!

Not sure if someone here can help me out a bit, but I've recently been trying to get into other scenes of electronic music especially. I already have people to tell me about the more popular J-Rock/Pop stuff, but it's proving a bit difficult to find electronic music specifically.

Anyone know any blogs/websites/lists/mixes that can help me get started?

Don't know of any blogs, but you might want to check out some of Shinichi Osawa's stuff.

I know it's a livejournal, kill me but http://stereo-night.livejournal.com/
They are usually good for finding some.

Also I recommend checking out Yasutaka Nakata and what he has produced and who he has worked with like capsule, Coltemonikha, MEG, Perfume, etc if you haven't already done so.

And one of my favourite groups, LIL: me, too, Lucky Star & Flashback Love

Thanks for the heads up, gonna get started browsing this a bit. The only Japanese music I have so far is pretty much J-Rock and Pop, so anything you have at all, I've probably not heard of.

Yura Yura Teikoku

Yura Yura Teikoku - Nantonaku Yume O

I posted this in the K-pop thread, not knowing there was a Japanese Music thread, so I'll just post this here, and hopefully someone will come by and enjoy it as much as I.

You guys NEED to check this out if you haven't already.
LIL - Watching You Feat. Wise
They're quite a lot like Capsule, but not as much autotune, and a lot more singing. Ucio's voice is absolutely gorgeous.
They've been around since 2006, but they had the name Lil' and changed it to LIL in 2009. They recently released a new single titled Lucky Star

I really suggest taking the time to check them out.

Yay More love for LIL!

I can't wait for their new album, going by Lucky Star it seems like it's going to be part Lips in Lush part Synchronize.

Same, I'm excited. Even though I enjoyed Lips in Lush more than Synchronize, I would still enjoy another album in the same vein as Synchronize.

Hey yall, I've been wanting to get into J Pop for years, but have only managed to get into a few songs / albums. Could yall give me some recommendations? I really like Hitomi Yaida's i/flancy album, and Tommy heavenly6's first album (the self-titled one). I also like that Pon Pon Pon song, but too much music with that level of eccentricity would probably grate on me fast, heh.

Otsuka Ai and Hikaru Utada would be good to check out.

"NYAN NYAN NYAN♪ (=^ω^=)" LOL

Miaou is a Japanese post-rock band that I've recently started listening to. I've never really been into the post-rock/instrumental genre and everything else I've looked up that is said to be similar to Miaou I just haven't found as much enjoyment from (edit: actually I lied, Toe is amazing). Their music makes me feel like I'm reading a book by Murakami while laying in fields of green on a sunny day

I always find myself just blasting their albums through my headphones while I'm playing multiplayer games

My top 3, in no order;
Future Pavillion
Tetote
Own Your Colors

Toe, which is very similar and I enjoy just as much;
You Go
Goodbye

So after listening to m-flo's new album I am not impressed. They really went down the electronic dance/house music route. I liked how they merged various music genres into one song in their old albums but now there songs are kinda average. I still enjoy listening to a few of them but the rest is too much electronica for me.

Anyone going to the L'arc~en~ciel world tour? Specifically the NYC one? :)

I'll actually be in Singapore when they are playing there. My GF and I got pretty good tickets so I'll be sure to post impressions/pictures when I get back. They're playing on the 28th of April. I'm so excited!

Came in here to post this - beautiful music

Also, Kazuyoshi Saito. Heard that one song in a movie (Golden Slumber - go watch it!) and it just fit the mood REALLY well. Dig the lyrics aswell.

Spitz - Robinson

Spitz - Escargot

Spitz - 夜を駆ける

I guess Spitz is relatively well known, but I wanted to share some of my favourites.

Man... I haven't listened to Spitz in FOREVER... Not since someone broke into my car in 07 and jacked a bunch of my CD's :l

Robinson is an excellent song.. I also loved Hatsukoi Kureiji and Yuuhi ga Warau, Kimi mo Warau off of Indigo Chiheisen. Kaede and Supiika were probably my favorite songs though.

Finding myself listening to Mr. Children's Bolero a lot recently. Oldie but goodie. That and Ging Nang Boyz' Door. I wish those fuckers would release a new album already, it's been 5 years dammit :/

I have never been able to get into Boredoms... Ever. Eye's stint with Naked City was awesome though and I dug 00I00, and Yoshimi P-we in Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots was a hilarious cameo. So... I like them when they're not Boredoms? Boris on the other hand, are amazing, always wanted to catch them live.

i suppose you don't like the boredoms music...
A live performance of Boris is incredible... but, try to go to a live of the My Way My Love ;)

I honestly can not stop listening to Love Comes and Goes and The Love Bug.
Never been addicted to songs like I have with these two.

I'd have to say I'm kind of the same, but Alive, Perfect Place and All I Want is You easily make the album for me.

So, Shiina will be back this month

It’s been a little over a month since the disbandment of Tokyo Jihen, and now, Shiina Ringo has officially resumed her solo career! She will be providing her new song, “Jiyuu e Michizure“, for the upcoming drama, ‘ATARU’.

Shiina wrote this new song to match the drama’s content after receiving multiple requests from the production staff. It’s described as an uptempo rock song that can be described with the phrase, “strong fire”.

Edit: There must have been a glitch! Just applied!

Don't even say it. I was supposed to see them, but had to stay in my town for that day. Same with Akira Yamaoka... :-/

I've seen Boris about 6 times now, each time was breathtaking. Never miss them again! They're always touring though, so you shouldn't have any issues.

I have a request from J-Gaf. Akai Ko-en have another mini album coming out!!!! However I don't know how to read japanese at all or find music. Before I was able to copy/paste their album title and search a bit (ultimately someone in here linked me to cdjapan for their past mini album) but I'm at a loss on how I can order this album. Anyone able to help me out with a title or even better resource on where I'll be able to order it????
