Unreal.
Maybe UE4 isn't next gen.
I think it'll be getting ports from this gen retroactively for a while, depending on how popular it is....until the new consoles from MS/Sony release, and then we'll be right back to square one![]()
I'm so glad I've become so complacent to videogames and E3 hype. This doesn't phase me in the slightest, whereas a few years ago I'd be going down the ninthing "bububu" path. I just nod, play the games I like, and get the fuck over it.
If you've been paying attention it's been known for quite some time that the WiiU is about as powerful as an Xbox 360.
More, but just not that much more.
I have been paying attention but these were all rumors, and I guess I was being optimistic, was waiting for the full reveal at E3.
UE4 isnt even near commercial release.. I dont understand what people were expecting here. They JUST revealed the thing.
That from a while back. It currently runs on a single GTX 680.Well, considering I don't expect it to run on the next consoles from Microsoft or Sony right away either, this isn't a shock.
Epic DID say that "no current hardware" could run it, and considering the next Xbox and PlayStation will be based on currently available GPUs, that kind of excludes them from the first run of UE4 until it's scaled down, as well.
Looks like Nintendo will have to use non-traditional techniques to achieve beautiful art styles.

There was definitely no on-the-record GDC interview with Mike Capps where he said anything of the kind.
The wishful-Nintendo-fanboy-thinking scenario would be that Geoff misremembered Mark Rein's Wii U/UE3 comments from GDC and misattributed them to Capps, but I'm doubtful that this is actually the case. Sigh.
We know nothing about UE4, it's flexibility, when the current console life cycle will end, when it'll launch, and so many other things.
this just seems like a weird-ass, fanboy-war inducing comment.
even "Wii-U will be Unreal Engine 3" is some stupid wording
Really? The answer is worded quite ambiguously.
I'm not trying to be prophetic or anything, but PS4 and NextBox will be running UE4, Wii U will not. Myself and many others (everyone) have seen this future for many moons past.Well, considering I don't expect it to run on the next consoles from Microsoft or Sony right away either, this isn't a shock.

Umm this was never about Nintendo games but third parties.Looks like Nintendo will have to use non-traditional techniques to achieve beautiful art styles.

So wii u isn't next gen.
Shhh!
No it's actually quite a diplomatic way of putting it. He could have said "WiiU is only/just/unable..."We know nothing about UE4, it's flexibility, when the current console life cycle will end, when it'll launch, and so many other things.

people[sic] thought it would be more powerful then[sic] a 360 or ps3[sic]?
He just said he wasn't going to give a hint. It's all good, guys.![]()

Best to stick to calling his commentliesspeculation, because he is so likely to make shit up with people he hangs out with at GDC.
Lol when will Nintendo learn? Another weak ass console? No thanks.
So, whats UE4 do besides prettier graphics?
If its bad news, then it's true news. Specially if its about Nintendo hardware power (lack of it).Kinda want to wait to hear this directly from Mike Capps. The answer is worded quite ambiguously.
I really do like Geoff and ussually defend him when people accuse him of doing that exact shtick, but man he makes it hard sometimes..

Why is it a "shtick"? He as asked a direct question, and he gave a direct answer. This topic is only controversial because some people have been holding out hopes that this upcoming Nintendo console is somehow going to end up being more powerful than it really is.
