I've had my cat for two months now and she's about 15 weeks old. Things are going very well: she's playful, adventurous, eating and drinking well, is healthy and a good weight, and is getting used to the house. My one complaint is that she has started scratching the wallpaper. I know she can be conditioned out of it and I can't get angry about it. Apart from that though, she's incredible. She absolutely loves to play, either with people or on her own. Her favourite game is to hide and pounce on people as they walk past her. Then she'll hide and wait for them to walk past her again.

Sometimes she'll sit at the window and wait for people to come through the door:

She loves this bed, and especially sleeping in this position:

She's the fluffiest kitten I've ever met:

She likes to be held but she prefers to be on the floor, playing. When she wants to be picked up though, she looks at the person with these eyes

Her colours have actually changed recently. Her brown stripes are now a brighter red colour. I think she looks amazing:

That cat is the fluffiest. The ear fluffs are awesome.

She's gonna keep scratching your shit up, and then she will look at you right in the eye while doing it with the clear message "I'm gonna keep doing this and I'm gonna keep getting away with it."

This thread made my day.

Also, you can try to get her a cat scratcher post, that might help.

She has two, lol. One is downstairs and I don't think she's ever used it. She does know how to use the other one though. It's not like she constantly does it but I've caught her doing it a few times now

Get one of those gloves that have raised nubs to help groom her otherwise the hairballs will be epic.

She is absolutely adorable though...congrats!

That's the same cat tree I have! My cat tom loves sleeping in the little basket..even though he barely fits anymore oh and that's a gorgeous cat op!

Yes, i'd suggest trying one of these:

(Not that particular listing)

That's a good call. I'll look for one this weekend

She just fits in the hammock and on the top shelf, and she's only a baby. She'll have outgrown it in 3 months :(

Had a dream last night about adopting a kitten. Today, I hop on GAF and see the fluffy cuteness such a creature can be. Universe is sending ideas my way...

Great looking cat, OP. Absolutely adore her coloring!

The ones we got has catnip in it, so they go to it and do the scratching. You might already know, but she is doing it to keep her claws fresh.sharpen them, and just sees the wallpaper as a good location for it. Either way, she looks so great that even if she doesn't stop, its more than worth it.

Thanks, you should do it. It's the best decision I've made in years

There were a few catnip products I saw but they said don't give them to young kittens (under 10 weeks). She'll be fine with it now though. I'll get one this weekend.

Scratch that tummy!

She loves belly rubs. She even lifts her paws up to let me get under her chin. She's teething atm and nibbles my hand while I do it. She's so gentle though that I don't even feel it

I can't believe I forgot to post one of my favourite photos. She plays with her feet sometimes:

And this is what happens if I give too many belly rubs:

These things are great:

Drag the end of the stick along the carpet and let the "bait" trail it. The sound really gets their attention and the movement of the tail gets those hunting instincts going. They'll follow it right up the side of your cat tree / whatever.

I find they usually get tired of batting things on long strings around, but these ones give a more fun chase.

Aw, she looks so sweet! <3

Didn't see the previous thread but this'll make my workday better.

Here you go. Lots of 8-week-old photos

She has one like this and she loves it. It's one of the few toys that she'll play with on her own. I've also seen her take it to bed and sleep next to it

I've always been a dog person but can't help thinking I chose the wrong side when I see a cuddly cat. Use to have a cat called Dio but then my sister took him when I went abroad.

I had a dog for 12 years but my current work/life schedule means it isn't practical to have a dog right now, especially a puppy. I'll always be a dog person. Owning a cat is great though and equally rewarding but in very different ways

She has a lot of Maine Coon in her. The fluff, the fur length, the build of the head and chest, and the outgoing personality are all hallmarks of the breed. That shot of her at the window looks almost exactly like one of the Maine Coons I grew up with. They're wonderful, personable, highly companionable cats. Looks like you got a winner.

Thanks. You're definitely right. She isn't a pedigree but she looks like one. She already acts like a Maine Coon and she's still only a baby. All of her personality traits are just starting to come through, and she's growing in confidence all the time. She won't come and snuggle on my lap, but she'll sit next to me and let me stroke her while she sleeps. I think she's still cautious because she's so small. People are huge and scary compared to her

She'll get there. You can see from the proportions of her ears and tail that she's going to be a pretty big cat.

Yuuuup. We adopted a kitten from the shelter and a post was one of the first purchases. We would play with her on the scratching post with a string toy and she'd naturally start scratching it.

Has never really scratched couches or anything important as a result. A godsend really because we never have to worry about shredded anything.
