Kojima confirms OD and Physint were delayed

In his post, Kojima gave players an update on where things stand with his three main projects — Death Stranding 2, OD, and Physint. Regarding Death Stranding 2, he says that the team “started to play and build up the game” over the summer after working on music production, Japanese voice recording, and more. For the other two games, however, there have been hiccups.

First, with OD, Kojima says that game development continued along with actor and environment scanning. In the second half of the year, though, scanning and filming was suspended due to the strike. For Physint, casting was suspended because of the strike.

Kojima said that the hold is to resume next year. That’s as long as a deal reached, of course. The current SAG-AFTRA strike began in July after 18 months of negotiations over AI protections for video game actors. As of publishing, there is no update on where the talks stand.

Get Hollywood out of gaming!

#GetHollywoodOUTofGaming

His obsession with Hollywood is hindering his career, it’s sad.

Kojima, MGS was better than Hollywood!

Obsession with modern Hollywood and wanting to emulate it, has been ruining a lot of Western AAA in general.

Gaming doesn't need to emulate film to be taken as a serious art form.

Well, if you're gonna push for stuff like this it would be nice if the player had interactive input during such moments. That's the nature of the medium, after all.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

This motherfucker just wants to get as many of his favorite movie stars on board as he can ..

Genuine question.

Why do game developers/companies like using expensive actors and voice actors?
Do they believe it will help sell the game?
Do they see it as a stepping stool to their transition as film directors?

I’m asking because for me personally, I see no value in it other than increasing cost of development. I think I speak for most gamers when I say we don’t give a damn about Hollywood actors in games.

Gameplay is the single most important aspect of a game.

How much to say that it will be delayed again just because of the stupid Hollywood boner?

Remember that Phantom Pain was released the way it did not only because of Konami, but because the man thinks that doesn't have limits

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I have a feeling OD will get cancelled

1000% disagree with you here. There are things that the Gaming dev Community can learn from film and TV. We've seen some of it over the years and regardless if you want to be honest with yourself and us or not, we know for a fact that it has helped gaming become bigger than it was. This is a fact!

I wish I could force Kojima to make another game for PS1, and/or PS2 - which could be ported to PC as well.

Nothing against his current stuff, on contrary, but I really think those technological limits would again help him to make something really good.

Software development was países due to the inability to cast actors.

Like, if you couldn't work on prototyping, level design, pipelines, stricture, programming útil your boss hasn't chosen the face that goes in the box and the VA. This has always been a pretentious hack

Phsyint makes sense, feels like they don't really know exactly what it is yet.

But didn't OD gameplay leak like years ago, also isn't it his "smaller" project , also basically a movie.

Seems weird, wonder if they having issues with the game.

Yep.

A cinematic espionage action game differs from a tactical espionage action game, in that the espionage action during the course of the game is more cinematic than tactical.

Hope this helps.
isn't it because they are planning an entire franchise and he's hoping it will span both movies/TV and gaming

the hold will continue until next year? 🤣…the rate of progress, there will be little need for actors by then unless you reallllly want specific people for some reason.

Oh please, you’re just complaining to complain at this point. You see a beautifully crafted cutscene, something that adds weight and depth to the story, and your first reaction is "but where’s my button press?" Like seriously?

Guess we better remove every cutscene ever because apparently the medium can't handle a moment of passive storytelling

Not every second needs to be a glorified QTE just to satisfy the "everything must be interactive" crowd

Some of the greatest moments in gaming come from cutscenes

If he hired scabs to act to get around the strike, he'd get blackballed by SAG-AFTRA. For someone who loves movies and movie stars as much as Kojima, I'm sure he'd rather die.
