It doesn’t everyone who has logging in since the iOS release shows up as unknown it’s all over Reddit
Maybe they're iOS players and privacy/crossplay settings don't allow others to see their usernames? I've not come across it when I played. I did build a lot of bridge links with PSN people though so iOS users might not be appearing as much.

Great game. I liked every game Hideo did and I shouldn't have doubted this one. But I did, which however, caused me to pick it up for just 25 bucks 2 months after launch.

Its not for everyone, but it has all the Hideo Kojima traits. Enemies are weak to the MC's DNA. So yeah, pissing actually works. The traversal is the highlight for me. You'll struggle, and you'll get there. Then over time, by also raiding camps and looting minerals, the world gets infrastructure more and more you start it up. That struggle becomes an easy ride.

I liked it.

Yeah because before that moment the writing before was chef kiss :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Smoothie brain was paying full price and playing this turd for 40 hours because i thought kojima still had something in him.

Boy i was wrong.

P.s. don't waste your time trying to explain why the game is so great, i had enough back and forth in the past about this game :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

This is why i love differing tastes. Or the sheer chaos that life influencing art and taste of it can be completely different based on many factors.

I think its a masterpiece. You think it's absolute shite.

Both are correct.

I exagerate for entartainment purpose, i also call sp2 a turd but they are both decent 6\10 games.

I still played for 40 hours because i was curious to know what was the carrot at the end between the story and gameplay, it ends up they were both the stick :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Ok. I just want to add. I finished the game last night......

...I did not expect that ending to take what felt like 3 hours with 0 saves and pure info dump.

All in all a pretty good performance from the actors. Outside of a pretty terrible script.

I deffo feel like I enjoyed the game over the cutscenes. The game and the world etc. That ending kind of reminded me how awful the writing can be.

I still think the game is incredible and personally a 10/10 with its flaws to me. The game hasn't changed in it's opinion, that I hold of it. Just that, wooooof some of the writing and cutscenes are too much.

I'm still going back in to 5 star all people. So yeah.

Incredible game. Pure Kojima farts of the highest grade known to man.

This is not a walking simulator at all.

Walking is a big part of it, but you can't sell this game to people who want a slow and atmospheric (story driven) game without any enemies or action. You know, like a walking simulator.

What time did you start the ending? I spent half the night up watching it after the final boss fight.

Luckily I started it at around 6pm. My poor daughter wanted to watch trash youtube but instead had to watch hours of Kojima farts.

Was worth it.

Lmao, so can she comprehend any of it or are you just dad wafting complete nonsense?

To be clear, I don't think we can conclude how much nonsense it is yet. Not until we get more answers from DS2. It feels like a much larger universe was created, much like MGS or the Halo series where the first game is a drop in the bucket.

It's an anti-Kojima Kojima game. Story was incomprehensible nonsense that failed to live up to his MGS1-3 standards, but the gameplay was surprisingly top tier. Normally people complain that Kojima games don't have enough gameplay, then this came along and now it had too much gameplay. Granted, there were a lot of repetitive package deliveries, but the social aspects and the meta-game of improving your delivery route efficiency via roads and ziplines was extremely cool, a lot like the base building in MGSV. Sunk 50 hours into it and do not regret it one bit.

Forget the rest of the soundtrack too, downing Monster Energy and Timefall Porter to this banger in the private room was my jam:

Yeah the script and pacing really isn't good, but the overall story still remains interesting.
I love dunkey's spoiler review of the game which isn't 100% correct.

I think she gets some of it but clueless about the far out stuff. Maybe one day she will enjoy some more interesting things thanks to kojimas farts.

I think once I read all the interviews and emails and played the game I understand the world that's been built. Can't wait for ds2.

Amazing review. Some good points but for me....I don't even think about the mediocre combat or plot holes etc becuase I was just genuinely in enjoyment everything I played. The mechanics just clicked for me. I guess I enjoyed the ways in which the game let me play instead of ever thinking "I wish I could do this" I don't knowmif that makes sense, but anyway. Games amazing. Deffo a lot of kojima waffle but the core gameplay was amazing for me.

I just beat the game. Might be the worst ending to anything I’ve ever watched or played. Kojima needs an editor. He really is in love with words and having his characters saying the same thing for hours and hours. The “gameplay” eventually grew on me. It didn’t hurt that I was playing on my Portal, so I was able to be entertained by my tv while playing this on the handheld.

The story was absolute dog shit. Had it not been for the 8 hour ending after the credits rolled for the 1st of 8 times total, I might have scored the game higher. The highs don’t make up for the really bad lows.

5/10

I do wonder though, did Kojima purposely have 8 different credit rolls, just so he could see his name that many times?

I’ve been getting back into the game to give it another try on the Pro. Per usual for Kojima, the cut scenes are stupid long. I was going to take one of my kids somewhere and I told them to let me finish this cut scene so I could save, he came back in two different times and did not believe me that I was still in the same cinematic.

Gameplay is super tedious. I did find a bike and built a generator to recharge it, makes deliveries much easier. Can I just use this thing the rest of the way? It’s way better than walking.

Trying to balance myself out while walking to deliver a mail package.. thank god I downloaded for free.

I will always respect Kojima.. he's a visionary, but his vision since MGS5 has been dogshit (for me).

Bikes remain pretty good throughout, but you haven't discovered the best travel yet. Not to mention improvements if you are walking. Lot more to the game than you have seen if you have just discovered a bike lol.

Wait until you “beat” the game and experience the 8 hour ending that too, includes more walking.

You will get to a point where you are flying around the map. You won't even want the bike anymore.

I played it for 5 hours, generally liked it in some weird way. Unfortunately I found out I could hold down both triggers and just push the stick forward and kinda skip the balancing act, then it became repetitive. But, still very early, I understand that it gets more advanced later on.

This game isn’t for everyone, much like the man who made it.

It’s unnerving how poorly paced and downright insane some of the gameplay and story beats are but that’s what makes me love it. It truly feels like one man’s insane vision come to life in high fidelity.

On a personal note, the final delivery had me legitimately emotional, something I hadn’t felt over a piece of media in quite some time. Day One for DS2.

Nothing makes you strand harder with your fellow porters than going up some insane cliff, the Odra going crazy in torrential time fall and see some crazy mofos zip lines over the edge that basically negates the last bit.

Keep on, Keeping on!

I got it free on the Epic store and I consider that too expensive a price to pay for this boring turd.

I noped out after about 9 hours

Pretty excited to finally get into the Death Stranding series.
I didn’t want to spoil too much but I read OP’s “fucking masterpiece” so I have high hopes for when I run through 1 and 2 back-to-back later this summer.

It's a really divisive title so manage your expectation I'd say.

After the first reveal trailers I was hyped like crazy, especially being a fanboy of Kojima as a teen.
Then he made some statement about the game that I didn't like and it kill a bit my hype.

I finally went to buy the game few years after release, without too much expectation... It ends up being the most boring and repetitive game I've play. Dropped after 15/20h.
Story premise is interesting and makes me want to know more but all part of gameplay are just horrendous to me (literally an "annoying life simulator" for me).

Hope you can enjoy it. I still have hopes to go back to it but each time I think about the gameplay, I am instantly going "NOPE !"

Kojima fan myself and Death Standing is so unique. On paper it should not work - that being the majority of gameplay traversing land making deliveries essentially but it does.

Of course it is full of Kojima craziness, that is the thing about Kojima though, for every whacky over the top idea he has, he implements tremendous ideas that just seem to work.

Let’s hope some booze will make the life simulator amazing then. Lol

I get the feeling he's surrounded by sycophants who stroke his ego, tell him what a genius he is. He greatly overestimates his writing ability.

This is what put me off DS when I tried it - the long, tedious, pretentious, interminable cutscenes. I never made it anywhere near the end - only got about 8 hours in - but I'm not surprised that he decided to end the game with hours of cinematics, although 3 hours of it seems grossly self-indulgent, even for him.

I only played 8 hours myself. I felt like most of the time, I was sitting on my hands, waiting for the cinematics to stop, please stop already, but they just kept going on. Then it was time for balancing packages, whee!

I'm pretty sure this game would have flopped, had it come from anyone except Kojima. He has a fanbase that will follow him anywhere.

As you say, he would greatly benefit from a good editor.

I'm the opposite. I'm a max level Kojima meat riding glazer, so I bought it day 1 and played all the way through giving it my all.

I don't think I really ever enjoyed it. I respect it, and I acknowledge it's great game design with tons of depth if it clicks for you. I just didn't like it despite trying to force myself to.

Anyway, DS2 day 1 baby!

Definitely more than a feeling, dude need someone who keeps him on a leash so he doesn't just throw shit on the wall and force them to stick :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

A dude on reeee said it better than me:

It's amazing how a man so excellent at editing a trailer, can't edit a damn script to save his life. Smh.

This game must have been the most boring slog I've ever played for more than 10 hours, and while I don't like many games I can still understand why someone may like it, but death stranding?

I don't understand,.

I think Kojima knows how to suck people in. He just needs to get better at keeping them wanting to stay. So cutting down on repeating the same conversations over and over and over again might help.

And cut down on the cringe aswell.

And tbh, as a game itself, ds is not even in the same universe of something like mgs5, that one had many controversies aswell, but none about the gameplay.

It was my game of the year when it came out.

It reminded me of a time when AAA games pushed the industry in new directions and took risks. Nowadays AAA just means tired gameplay and a "safe" story backed by a huge budget. Every AAA is effectively a remake these days.

The whole time I was playing Death Stranding, I kept thinking "I can't believe this game exists in current times". It was the same feeling I got watching Blade Runner 2049 - like, how the hell did this get made?

Death Stranding is like someone took quaint idea for an indie game and went completely over the top with it. I can't point to any AAA title in the last 10+ years that had a unique, uncompromising vision like this game. Hate it or love it, the industry would be in a better place if we had more AAA games like Death Stranding.
I fully agree with this.

It’s not a perfect game on any account, but god it’s finally something unique. It can be boring. It can be exhausting. It can be interesting. It can be tense. It can be hard.
It can be a lot of things, while most games nowadays you pretty much feel the same thing throughout the whole experience.

Unless you are some judge of universal good taste, it's not up to you to decide.

Sorry but I don't buy into the post-modernist sophistry; there is such a thing as objective truth.

We're all entitled to our opinions, but it has to be accepted that some opinions can, and indeed must be wrong.

That you're arguing with me proves the point!

We can agree to disagree, its fine! But to make that case that two diametrically opposed viewpoints must be equally valid is just horse-shit of the highest order.
