Kotaku: Making A South Park Game Is Harder Than You'd Think

Maybe devs should be defended against shitty ideas that undermine the hard work they put in? Crazy thought, I know.

Why do we need to defend the devs? What are we even defending them against? There was no attack against the developer, the thread was not posted in the dev's forum or even directed at the dev.

Edit: removed my last paragraph because it was unfair to the article.

And this is exactly why devs are scared away from this very forum. Because it is full of ignorance yet not willing to learn people.

You know what is an attack? Public humiliation like this, this whole thing is embarrassing and unprofessional.

did I miss the part they called out the particular post and posted the thread?

To be fair though, i don't remember calling devs lazy or even implying something like that.

seems like you were simply used as an excuse to post the article. Plenty of times there are misunderstandings of how much work gets put in things that look simple enough for those of us with no knowledge, and it was a good chance to say something

It was linked in Kotaku article, now I cool down a bit, calling it public humiliation is probably too much. The article isn't really that harsh on the op.

I mean he links to it so people don't think he's pulling it out of his ass if they really wanted to check the background. I think this might be a case not many would have cared if he had a strawman though, because it's an argument plenty make.

I also didn't say that 2D animation is easy in general, like the story implies. I only said South Park in particular looks easi-er to animate (to me). And i was comparing it to other games.

Oh well. At least i got more answers and attention than i ever hoped.

We don't need to defend devs, we just have to stop accusing them of being lazy or bad when things don't adhere to our arbitrary schedules or whatever

GAF constantly had threads like "it's been years since their last release what are x even doing???". It's this constant accusatory tone that developers are squandering their time and don't know how to do their jobs. It's tiring to see those opinions appear so often, I can't even begin to imagine what it's like for devs to have to always see that shit

Well as I said in the original thread, I've been doing it over 15 years and yeah it is fucking hard. My point was more about why Kotaku felt the need to write about a forum post. It was completely unfair to the NeoGAF user to burn him/her over something they shouldn't be expected to have knowledge on.

The lesson here is: Don't get over-confident about things you don't have knowledge on, I guess.

Ok, guys, it's not like Jason saw the comment and was like "yo fuck this person, I'm gonna drop some journalism on their ass". What happened is that Jason happened to see the comment, then remembered it during an interview with other-Jason and happened to mention it as a springboard into talking about the difficulty of making the game. This conversation was lengthy, and a little snippet was pulled out.

But in the OP i specifically say "that's a genuine question, not a complaint". Which should indicate a person that ask questions and doesn't know better? English is not my native language but i'm pretty sure i don't come off as over-confident.

Problem is, he added stuff i didn't say. Like how "developers are lazy" or how "2D animation is easy".
