Last of Us showrunners explain why Abby isn’t muscular in season 2

Yeah I learnt that from that website write up as well. Probably the only good thing that came out of that effort. I was being silly by sharing it anyway. My original goal was to find wild animals that are atypically fat, where fatness isn't in their nature. Didn't find much on that, outside of ones that have real health issues.
I feel the need to share my findings that are not useful, but I found them hilarious:

well, bullshit reasons aside, there's no way to obtain that physique and not have side effects, exactly what everyone discussed a few years ago. Abby didn't need to be that muscular but... Cuckman I guess.

If you slimmed down Abby and made her far less muscular, does anything fundamentally change about her character or TLOU2's story? I'm talking about the game.

A drastic change in physical power should impact her gameplay and story, too.

For the TV show, the answer is obvious: a clash between Bella Ramsey and a strong woman like Charlize Theron or Sigourney Weaver would look borderline parodic.

People on this forum complained that she was too muscular in the game and now complain that she looks too close to normal on TV. Hilarious that some people just like to be upset all the time.

People are way too obsessed about the supposed “realism” of Abby in a game series where a tiny female (Ellie) routinely survives multiple gunshots and stabs and outmuscles much larger men. Lets not forget the games stealth sections where your allies can run around doing whatever they want and the AI is designed to ignore them.

What a dumb hill to die on.

But what exactly fundamentally changes about Abby’s story and the main plot, if she looked like she doesn’t eat Steak and Cheese Subs everyday? I’m not saying making her a skinny little thing. You could give her roughly the same build as Ellie, who is pretty strong looking for a woman, and her story and character remains unchanged.

Her looking like she punches boulders for a work out, was just a bizarre creative choice by Neil. And then after seeing the reveal of Intergalactic, I’m starting to think the guy has a type.

But that was the whole point of the story. How endless retaliation would only wind up with everyone dead. No one is happy or better off at the end of that game. It’s a depressing setup and really drives home what message it was trying to deliver. Continuing down the path they both chose would only result in the end of any happiness they could obtain/ retain.
The ending to the first game was the same. It’s not a happy moment. Ending with Ellie obviously not believing Joel’s story about what happened and it throwing her whole foundation askew for who she believed Joel to be.
We see how that ultimately played out in the 2nd game. Their relationship is extremely strained and she has distanced herself from him because of the betrayal of trust.
That's well said.

we got people playing superheroes doing insane transformation for those roles. this is a copout.

Typically there are plenty roles in Hollywood for roided out dude. Not so much for roided out women. So it makes sense that an actress would not want to juice to get jacked for this series alone. It would probably kill their career in the short-term...

... probably as well as their dating like outside of work.

I didn't like the last of us 2's story for one reason and one alone and it's because we didn't get to kill abby at the end of the game. After she essentially destroyed tommy's life as well as took joel's i wanted her dead and when ellie spared her i was pissed off. It went against ellies motivation throughout the entire game which was revenge. She wanted revenge for joel and she should've wanted revenge for tommy too, but she just decides at the last minute naaa screw this you get to live. It ruined the story for me.

To not get the option to kill or spare her was an incredibly stupid design decision.
