The Last of Us Season 2 reviews are starting to come out

Season 2 Meta is 82 and Season 1 was 84. So about the same, might end up a little lower.

Also interesting that IGN seems to be the harshest on it. I suspect most people who didn’t play the games won’t feel like it tells “half a story”. No more than any season of a show is just the continuation of an ongoing story.

You took a game with a bloated and unnecessary second half that pissed off players immensely.

There’s no way to fix this turd lol.

Pedro is lucky he’s moving onto fantastic 4 and avengers movies.

Exactly my thought when I read that review. It seems like they still can't figure out how to let the show breathe.
Hard to do when games are 20+ hours and seasons are 7 and 9 hours. They have a talented group working on it, I'll give them that. Mazin is really talented. Doesn't mean it'll be perfect but I think with the source material they will do a decent job with most of it.

Sounds like Season 1 TBH... randomly inserting flashback episodes in the middle of the plot, not once, but TWICE did not do the first season any favors. Kind of sounds like Season 2 also "jumps around" too much. It's the kind of thing many modern shows are doing, but not usually until their 2nd/3rd season and it's kind of driving me nuts.

Fallout did it really well, but that's because it was core to the storytelling to sort of reveal to you more and more of The Ghoul's past and how it feeds into current events. And it's not done via nearly entire episodes either, it never feels gratuitous like TLOU season 1 suddenly having nearly an entire episode be a flashback love story of 2 characters who aren't otherwise in the show.

Some serious cherry-picked takes in the OP for a season with over 90% on rotten tomatoes lol.

Wanna tell us something?
It wasn't cherry picked at all, in the 3 reviews I posted, those were all points in those reviews and it was based off of those reviews I read.

Collider disagrees and thought it was great, which I've since read. Kotaku agrees with the points in the OP and adds it has too much exposition.

In this case, they are only covering half the game. Unlike the first season, I would think there is sufficient time this time around. Will have to watch it to see where all that time went.

I think much like with the first season is the takes on this season are going to be pretty polarized and it will come down to just a matter of personal preference on if you like the changes they've made. So I think the opinions will be pretty varied and there won't be one consistent sentiment throughout all reviewers. Aside from the fact that it appears most people still consider it a good show, even those who are less positive, but it will come down to the specific moments and who liked how they translated it and who didn't.

Who cares about the critics. In season 1 they pretty much ignored how much Ellie was miscasted, how the og lore was changed (for the worse imo) or how most episodes were boring and you were starting to ask yourself are the infected still present in this world.

I tell it like it is. It can't be worse than showing up in every Naughty Dog threat to complain about the game that released nearly 5 years ago.

I'll probably watch it eventually, but I didn't like what they did to S1. From casting, to very little action, to some of the episodes being really weird filler.

Having said that, it still had one of the best and most terrifying opening scenes to any recent series I've ever seen and it was achieved by just talking. Just insane.

Thought the first season was fine, but some scenes were done better in the game. I still don’t buy the casting. Since the narrative and characters were the weak part of TLOU2, this one will be a skip.

Also found it odd that Ellie seems sidelined for some reason, from Rolling Stones’ review.

Mostly, though, it’s the lack of Ellie and Joel that keeps the season, while still strong overall, from hitting the heights of that first year.

Well, fans of TLOU2 dont like to admit it, but the story or rather the plot of the sequel simply isnt as good. There is literally nothing that happens when you get to Seattle with Ellie. The three days basically go by as she eliminates one person after another. There is no story there. It's mostly just Ellie either going at it alone or with Dina or Jesse for a few missions.

Abby's plot of saving those two kids isnt particularly great either, but at least there is a plot of an impending invasion of the island that the show couldve built around.

The game is boring despite the stunning visuals, excellent combat, and superb level design because the story is simply lacking. They shouldve crammed everything in one season instead of splitting it into two.
Your last paragraph is completely contradictory, have you actually re-read it?

"The game is boring despite the stunning visuals, excellent combat, and superb level design because the story is simply lacking"

You list all the positives and only the story as a negative but still call it boring? I could understand that if this were the TV show but you're discussing the game which you play so surely the gameplay is more important than the story?

Let's be real, I liked TLOU2, but the game itself already had a major problem with the non-chronological order of telling the story and it's pacing.

Translating it to a series while spreading it over 2 seasons is quite a challenge. No wonder it might not be as good as season 1.

Maybe update metacritic and rotten tomatoes score ?

I'm just gonna watch a montage of all the infected scenes like i did with season one, hopeffully it's gonna be longer than 5 min :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

That OP is bad intended and it's pretty obvious what it's trying to do...and it only has 3 reviews, with the worst review of course, in full display (one from a videogame publication which makes no sense)...then Rotten Tomatoes is actually at 93% and metacritic is like 82.

Most posts are also of course ignoring every single good review and focusing on the only bad one.

Anyway, can't wait for this IP to keep going and in a week once ratings come in i'm sure it'll be great to witness those topics, as well as that steam usercount topic getting new updates :)

Like all these streaming shows, the only episodes worth watching are the first and the last. Everything in-between is boring, padded out filler.

lol nothing about this franchise is wildly polarized in any medium, that's the brain-rotted incel narrative that didn't stick in 5 years.
now go add these to the first post, your cherry picking looks embarrassing.

I enjoyed the first season, but it's nothing special, my biggest problem:

Episode 3: 1 hour 16 minutes (yet, totally irrelevant to the main story)
Episode 9: 43 minutes.

They spent so much time to tell a gay love story but skipped over so much that should've been in the finale.

And you know they're gonna give Lev her own hour and a half episode. But that'll be season 3.

the cliffhanger will be joel´s death isnt?

how the fuck are you gonna take 7 hours of TV to get to that point that happens super early in the game?

Joel´s death should be around episode 2 or 3

Wrong. I liked the first season and I like the games. You’re projecting. There were 3 reviews out I didn’t see any others and then I created the thread based on those reviews. A little bit after I did, the other reviews started to pop up. Then I made a follow up post linking metacritic and saying it had an 88.

And I brought up the Collider review in another post that was very positive. The OP wasn’t even a negative thing, I mentioned the critiques and it never anywhere said people thought the season sucked.

The only good thing about TLoU 2 is the gameplay (luckily, since is a game). The story is filler and boring, so there's no way this is turning out good, especially considering that even the first game that had a good story has already been translated in a boring TV Series, praised for unknown reasons by the media.

"Bella Ramsey was fantastic as a younger version of Ellie, but their performance in season 2 didn’t really sell me on the fact that five years have passed in the world of The Last of Us. Ellie just doesn’t appear to have matured, and it sits strangely next to the very mature content of season 2. Ramsey acts with more physicality, displaying impressive combat skills, but still behaves like a child in conversation."

She should have been recasted, ffs.

Everyone saw it coming from a mile away.
