SNES and PS1 blow it away

If you're from Japan, probably.
lol.

PS1 I can agree with. Half of the so called "golden" titles from SNES aren't even good to begin with.

Last I checked, Chrono trigger and FF6 are like top 5 JRPG of all time kind of games. Quantity may not be there but quality is sky high

PS1 edges it out though for sure, it’s the king

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
It also have the Collection of Mana and Dragon Quest 1+2+3 Collection too (though the DQ port quality ain't that good)

the DS/3DS are pretty great for JRPG too. Bunch of Dragon Quest DS remasters, Chrono Trigger, 7th Dragon, FF3 remake, SMT games etc

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Absolutely not. It had some good to great RPGs with the Xenoblade series, and a whole lotta stuff that was miles worse on the Switch than on any other platform. I'm not giving the system credit for ports unless the games were actually better on there. Hell, even The Thousand Year Door was arguably better on the Gamecube.

They are the only two games that the SNES has that can't be argued are amazing tbh.

Everything else that was over praised back in the day has been exposed as mid once it became accessible.
Mind you, I'm not region biased.
I'm just bitter that we didn't get Dragon Quest V & VI in their prime. 😆

Jesus! You came with receipts!

I’ll say yes, just because Xenoblade are basically the only JRPGs I really enjoy.

Can you play Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 1-12, DQ 4-8, Xenogears, Xenosaga, Lunar, Suikoden series, Wild Arms, Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve, Legend of Dragoon, Grandia, etc.etc. on it? Because the PS2 can (PS3 with PS2 BC as well plus all PS3 JRPGs).

FF 1-10, and 12 are present on the Switch alongside Grandia 1&2, Suikoden 1&2, Star Ocean 1&2, DQ 1-3, 3 Remake, X, XI and many others.

That said I would give PS2 the edge for my favorite JRPG library. It just has so many amazing games and a lot of them are only on PS platform.

Nothing will ever touch what I have called The Golden Age of Square on PS1 and that's not taking into consideration all the other great stuff like Suikoden, Breath of Fire, Grandia, Star Ocean, Lunar, Alundra, Vandal Hearts etc. So no, not even close lol

XBC legit is one of the best jrpg series and it’s not even close. That shit fucks. That said PS5 is also pretty great for this right here. Honestly you need both. Triangle Strategy ain’t on ps5, which hurts it.

what i love into this is that the jrpg isn't dead at all, i would like much more titles for the other consoles too;
now if the turn based mechanic also will be more considered again, it would be even better

In terms of exclusives, no, but it’s not really fair since the Switch 2 got ports of most major JRPGs. In terms of sheer number of high-quality games? Probably, since it had most important PS2, PS1, and SNES titles, along with some from the PS3-era and many of its own too.

PS2 was peak then Japan got fucked in the PS3 gen.

I miss so many publishers got spooked and never became that experimental again.

DS has some good ones as well but so many of them didn’t stand the test of time due to their gimicky nature.

With respect, huge chunks of that list I’ve never even heard of. If we are going to count Japan exclusives, as you seem to, it’s PS1 and it’s not even close.
