I thought it might be something like this. I've got a great 1080p screen but I'm only sitting on 40". Would like to make the 50+ bump with 4K but I'll probably be waiting until next year. I've heard some of these sets have like grey blacks which is totally unacceptable to me.

From what I could find the Vizio at Sams Club is the best with the Samsung at Both Target and Walmart coming in second

These are pretty low end models that manufacturers try to get rid of on Black Friday. I probably wouldn't recommend any of them to be honest.

Sort of? It can vary by tv. If you're thinking it's going to look significantly worse probably not. At average sitting distance (7 foot) you would be hard pressed to see it in any circumstances

If you don't want to spend a lot of money, get the 4k Hisense with HDR that is low priced even before Black Friday. It's probably the #1 "cheap" 4k TV performance wise. Switch that bad boy to game mode and you're set.

No reason to buy these "BF" specific TVs.

It looks the same. You're not going to suddenly think 1080p looks like shit just because it's not native res, not until you see things in 4K and start directly comparing them anyway.

Ok. I've admittedly not kept up a ton on TV tech recently so I was a little worried about the jump to 4k being as jarring as the jump from, for example, DVD to to BluRay

HDR10 TRUE 4K or Bust

If the TV doesn't have HDR10 or Dolby Vision support, I wouldn't get it. The resolution bump can be nice but HDR is far more important.

I would avoid the Vizio E series. If you're on the budget the best buy is either the Sony X800D or the Samsung KU6300.

The Sony TV is closest to UHD Premium recommendations, only lacking in peak brightness. The Samsung tv is right behind it but doesn't have wide color gamut.

That's marketing. A lot of TV's will accept an HDR signal but won't correctly display the information. A TV without wide color gamut cannot possibly display HDR correctly.

To make it simple, the features you really want in a 4K TV haven't trickled down to the budget market yet. You either have to accept a sacrifice somewhere or just wait until stuff gets cheaper.

Just a tip too, if you don't want to deal with Black Friday madness. Many credit card companies offer Price Protection for up to 90 days which includes Black Friday sales. So you can buy the TV now, grab the ad on Black Friday, and send your receipt and ad to your credit card company and they will refund the difference.

This cannot be quoted enough. Even in relation to Xbox One S as well.

I doubt "the masses" even know what HDR is let alone care. I've literally never seen the term used outside of GAF and recent gaming press conferences.
