LTTP: Enslaved Odyssey to the West (Xbox 360)

I recently acquired an Xbox, so I decide to finally give the game a try. It's a fantastic game from start to finish. I immediately re-started the game in hard mode after finishing. I also just bought the DLC, even though it cost more than the game itself!

Anyone familiar with the Chinese "Journey to the West" will catch the references here. You have the character "Trip" (Tripitaka), "Monkey", and "Pigsy" all making their way across the USA 150 years in the future. This is right up there with Uncharted with the full-stage mo-cap acting. The characters and dialogue are well done. The story and action all comes together in an organic way, despite the contrived platforming sequences (unlike, say, Jedi Fallen Order).

I really enjoyed how the platforming is rather forgiving. The game doesn't allow you to fall off edges, and the movement feels natural. The combat can sometimes feel simplistic, but I find that I am having to really try my best on hard difficulty. If you happen to fail, it isn't the end of the world. You get put back to a reasonable checkpoint and can try again.

IMHO, this is a must play. Ninja Theory really outdid themselves with this one. This may be their best game. It does not have any enhancements on modern consoles (other than auto-HDR), but it still looks wonderful. It is so refreshing to have a game from this era that is more than just shades of brown. I even tried it on an actual Xbox 360, and it still looks and runs great. From what I understand, the PC port is the "best" way to play, so grab it there if you prefer.

Also, Trip is smoking hot.

It goes on digital sale often, or hit up your local shop for a used 360 disc!

Bonus videos for after you finish the game!

It's a solid game and maybe their most acomplished game as a whole.

But i still think Heavenly Sword was way more interesting even though the end result is wasted potential. I prefer its story, characters and world. Nariko is just damn cool.

I would argue, though, that it does actually have enhancements on Xbox BC. It has the enhancement of no screen tearing, which was terrible on both PS3 and Xbox 360.
I agree that most games benefit greatly from this, but I haven't seen that much tearing on the 360 so far. I've played up through chapter 4 and recall two single instances of a tear (one in combat when a mech was exploding, and other in a random spot while spinning camera around that I couldn't even replicate).

Going to start the Pigsy DLC now!

I only ever tried the demo.
and I was instantly repulsed by the ridiculously high input delay, framerate issues, constant tearing and general wonkyness of the controls...

I always wondered how it would play if it wasn't stuck on 360 and PS3, and we could push it to 60fps or more...
but then again, maybe Xenia allows that now? Maybe I'll need to look into that 🤔

According to a documentary about the game, the demo was based on preliminary code and ran very poorly. The final game is not like that.

You can just play the PC version now if you want high frame rates.

lol, I didn't even know they released it on PC (apparently 3 years after the consoles)

releasing that demo was a really fucking stupid decision then. because I and 3 people I know didn't buy the game due to how bad that demo was.

It was a good game, too bad the story is unfinished and they didn't get to do a sequel.
This ending… I had to double check that there wasn’t a different ending for completing on hard or getting all the masks or something.

But it does leave you to wonder if Trip did the right thing.
