Mafia 2: Definitive Edition (Official launch) first 12 mins of Gameplay

Why even do it unless you’re going to do it right?

Both games should have been remade from the ground up and some changes made to 3. This is probably a one time chance and they missed it.

I’ve not played any of them except 3, but always wanted to try the other 2. Now, it looks like I’ll only be playing Mafia 1 and skipping 2. Shame.

What the hell is this? It's pretty jarring to have high res textures with UI elements that not only suck shit, but are a mixture of serif and sans serif typefaces. Someone fucked up.

That's what people dont realise. They pay 60$ for mafia 1. Mafia 2 is 3$ at the most right now on ps3 and mafia 3 was a failure and it is on sale for less than 10$. 2k are crooks and hangar13 are one of the worst gaming studio out there.
Yeah personally I'd wait with the pre-order of the trilogy considering Mafia 1 will be using 3's engine and Hangar 13 will be responsible for the remake. It's pretty much a certainty that it will have serious bugs and performance issues on launch.

Me I will wait once they release mafia 1 remake and see some videos before buying. Got burned buying mafia 3 day one from hangar13 not gonna fall for that trick again.

lol, what's with the terrible audio clipping on the speech track?

Did they record it on blue yetis in their living room or something?

Why are being so hard on yeti? It was one of those sub $10 microphones you find in a local groceries store.

Mafia 3 with DLC is definitely a marmite game (Just like Days Gone) but absolutely worth a try. For my money it's better than two. One is still the best though 👍

All of them are good games. I'll be buying.

Mafia 2 is still a good game you know?

If they completely remade 1 and 2, i highly doubt we'd see them both this year.

My main interest is in playing 1 first so I'll wait on that.

Im not really interested in the game, but I am interested to see if the Playboy centerfold collecting will return.
I do have the right game for that, right?

Mafia 2 Definitive Edition (Remastered) - Free Roam Gameplay

It looks like they have changed some of the musics. That music at 1:50 wasn't there when the gameplay starts in the original game. Have you noticed if there are any songs missing from the radio?

I’m sure it is. I’ve heard lots of praise over the years.

My frustration is with the execution. If you’re not gonna do it right, don’t do it at all.

It’s like Rockstar remaking GTA 3 from the ground up and then releasing San Andreas and Vice City alongside it as is, but running at 4K. Commit to what you’re doing or don’t bother.

Yep it's a generic song now instead of this:

It doesn't bode well for Mafia 1 soundtrack if 2K isn't interested in spending extra money on renewing licenses.

Agree to disagree here. I'd rather take 1 remake than none.
Sometimes doing all of the things and going for all the risks just is not in the budget.

I'm confused. I too thought this trilogy was going to to on one disk. Also, have they officially stated that 2-3 are remasters and 1 is a complete remake?

I don't remember liking any remake(full remake) more than original release except for Shadow of The Colossus but the original still has it's place.
I always find original graphics more nostalgic or cleaner. Like I've tried Gears of War ultimate today and I just cannot. It's wrong.
Halo Games does it great and allow You to switch.

So Mafia II is out today?
Most likely. It was on Australian PS Store and some were able to buy it but I heard it got removed. Maybe they put it there too early. Its not there here in Finland. There is going to be more info about Mafia Trilogy later today:

Scary thought!

median and mean gamer is like well over 30 but there are a lot of gamers in their 20s now that would have been small children when it came out

edit: looking at releases that came out in 2001, 2002 so many good original games

I've only ever played 3 in this series, it was a ps+ freebie at some point. It wasn't terrible, but it sure didn't feel very "Mafia" to me. I'm interested to try the first two, as they seem more along the lines of GTA Godfather that I was expecting.

If this is shit on PS4, I might just get the old Steam version on my laptop. Really in the mood to replay this now but not being ripped for some lazy port.

Yeah, Mafia 2 was a fun game from what I recall but it featured an utterly wasted open world. LIke probably one of the emptiest open worlds I can recall off the top of my head. If that isn't fixed (and it almost certainly isn't) then I don't think the upgraded graphics will make it worth a replay since I beat it late last gen.

Remake Definition: make (something) again or differently.

Remaster Definition: (also digital remastering and digitally remastered) refers to changing the quality of the sound or of the image, or both, of previously created recordings, either audiophonic, cinematic, or videographic.

Pretty set definitions to me, educate yourself.

There are no set definitions. Companies use whatever sounds best to them. Some call a remaster a remake, and the other way around.

It also doesnt fucking matter.

Also, we should just go back to calling them ports and remasters. What is this remake bullshit anyway.

Its not a remake. Its just a port with some added lightning effects.

Also those two "definitions" you posted there could also refer to the same thing. To make something again, doesnt proclude upgrading lightning or sound and graphics.

See some games dont need to have things to do all over. Let's face it, it would only be pointless filler content if they did. The city is just the backdrop to the main missions. I love the Mafia games because of that.

If the alternative is a world full of meaningless busy work, I’ll take the empty open world.

Mafia 2 Definitive Edition (the remaster) just showed up in my Steam library. It is separte game from Mafia 2 classic (thanks VulcanRaven VulcanRaven for pointing this out)

If you own Mafia 2 or just bough the trilogy bundle, check and see if the DE is in your library now

For me the problem with the game's world was that some locations were used for mutliple story missions and some weren't used at all. The devs should've done a better job making the player visit most of the map while going through the main storyline.

Thanks for the heads-up, downloading now. 35GB file size vs 8GB for the 'Classic' version. Nice.

Got a bit confused on their release pattern for a second there lol. So on the PS website, it says you can buy now, but it's not all available until August 28th, but then you can buy the definitive version of Mafia 2 now?

Mafia Remake is out in August

Mafia 2 DE (4k remaster) is available now, separate game from Mafia 2 classic

Mafia 3 DE is the same game but with all the DLC included, free if you already own it

You buy each separately or in the trilogy pack for 60 bucks

edit

I was confused too

I've never played any of the mafia games, Mafia 2 looks tempting, is it worth it at 40 bucks or should i wait until there is a sale?

Does anyone know if the cloth physics are still in the game? I remember the 360 version having but the clothes on the ps3 version were cardboards.

Is the game enhanced for the pro machines? And what it the framerate?
