There's a 4th map coming to Marathon after launch (no timeframe yet) supposedly to be something end-game related, if I'm not mistaken. Hopefully they share a roadmap before release.3 maps at launch is actually magnificent for an extraction shooter. Been playing Hunt for almost 7 years now and we only have FOUR maps.
I think there's reason for some concern regarding the game but I also think that once people try the alpha and a possibly an open beta a lot of that will be gone. Gameplay looks fun as shit to be honest.
I was expecting a little more, like a social hub of some sort kinda like in The Cycle and Destiny, where you could possibly interact with vendors and others players. More customization options for our characters, etc.
Going to a menu and then map and then back again to the main menu just seems kinda meh to me. There was an interview from Dr Lupo with one of the devs and he kinda said they're looking into those things but nothing to confirm yet.
I was also hoping the maps where a little bigger and allowed for more exploration, finding secrects and that sort of thing, instead of always fighting but they could possibly tweak the number of teams in the map (but that's just a personal preference) And maybe the 4th one is exactly that, who knows... the thing is if they get the basics right from the beginning they'll have a good framework for future updates and can do whatever they want and the community asks for.
Regarding the state of the game at release, well it's bungie, if we look how they handled Destiny they never got it right at first. Destiny 1 release was kinda of a shit show and the game only got real good when TTK released.
Destiny 2 from what I recall had a better launch but it still had problems that got fixed later, so yeah I expect no diferent here. I honestly think it might be sony pushing them to release the game this year, because it sure wouldn't hurt them to give the game a couple more months in the oven.
Anyway still excited to give it a try in a couple of months but my hype for it went down a bit.
