Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy |OT| We Got This...Kinda

I am REALLY liking this so far. I properly played tonight (albeit baked) and the writing is so funny, the characters are just so well done. Also, this game all maxed out on a 3070 just looks balls to the walls, just gorgeous to look at, and as someone mentioned, it has top notch facial animation that looks too good. I have the feeling I’m gonna enjoy this ride, which is completely unexpected since I ignored this game ever since it’s announcement thinking it would be like Avengers.

Yeah, had a few instances where for example Groot didn't follow the group and couldn't do a bridge, requiring a reload. Not a big issue because the checkpoints are very frequent, still a bit annoying.

Finished the game last night, liked it much more than I thought I would have. It's like Marvel's Uncharted - if you like that series, you probably will like this as well.
That's the comp I keep coming up with. It's basically an Uncharted style game. The combat needed some more work to smooth out the button inputs though. It's a mess in that regard.

Finished it last night and I want more. Story was really well executed, music was awesome graphics were awesome but with minor glitches. Hope for a second part with a bit more time in the oven 😁 little less chaos for the combat and a little bit more rpg elements and I would be happy for part 2.

This game feels like a halfway between an old school BioWare game with even lighter RPG/Stat/skill element and a TellTales game. A light adventure with good companions that offer tons of banter, but a somewhat more focused/linear story that feels like it knows where it's going.

I think broken down into pieces it's not a great game, but it's one of those rare games where the individual pieces lift each other up instead of one piece/element that drags the whole thing down.

I like it though - so far it feels like I'm actually doing something in game that advances the story instead of repeating endless cycles of half hearted MMO quests ported into single player RPG's just to pad playtime.

I don't have the game and simply watching the introduction mission on a YouTube lets play video but I gotta say it looks like alot of fun and the characters, and their interactions with one another, seems very entertaining to me. I was going to simply wait for it to drop on gamepass but I'm seriously tempted to outright buy.

How’s the HDR for everyone? It seems to be really overblown on my end, everything feels like it has a white haze over it. Couldn’t find any discussion on it.

I talked shit about this game before it launched thinking it was gonna bomb. Having played it it's really fucking good. The story is really good so far and the character interactions are good.

This is what The Avengers game should have been in terms of structure and gameplay. It reminds me a lot of Spider- man in terms of the quality.

This game is really great surprise of this year. It reminds me of Jedi Fallen Order a lot actually - damn good game with some flaws, that would make the potential next game incredible.

Kudos to Eidos Montreal - I was (and still am) salty for Square abandoing Deus Ex but this game is also great in its own way.

There was minor game update in Steam dealing with stability, and I did a little OC to both my CPU and GPU. Getting much better results now.
Old screen from "Day-1" driver. 1080p Native/High preset:

New screen from previous driver rollback+game update+OC. 1080p Native/Ultra Settings:

First off, I get pretty much no performance difference between 'High' and 'Ultra' settings. Secondly, That 40fps min is bullshit, and must occur during the initial load. I recorded the benchmark and watched and the lowest it would drop is around 57fps during scene changes. Happened maybe 3-4 times only for brief moment when switching scenes. Rest of the time I'm comfortably above 60fps. Feeling good about this.

I’m having mixed feelings about it, so this might be an unpopular opinion. I’m on Chapter 8. The trophies sorta pop up and I don’t even realize how I obtained them. I read their description and I can’t begin to tell you how to replicate that. I wish there was a skip button on the huddle. The story has been good and so have the boss battles. I don’t really like the forced walking scenes because I am more fond of running and just getting there. It’s definitely not my GOTY, but it’s pretty good. I really wish they could integrate the helmet scan into the regular screen without it having to obscure your vision so much. I think this game could have been great, but I don’t think gaming is there yet. Swapping out characters would have been cool.

I would be lying if I said I thought this was the next best thing. I realize games I enjoy a lot more have their own flaws. The linear levels make it an easy game session. Maybe it’s because I’m not a huge Guardians fan. Swapping costumes has made the game better for me. I don’t think I would replay this. A lot of the game is waiting for a prompt or opportunity for the obvious action. While the whole mix is probably good and I don’t discredit anyone for enjoying it. It feels like it isn’t reinventing the wheel. It’s rearranging what we are already use to and pacing it differently. I also feel like Star Lord’s weapon isn’t balanced appropriately. I’d take a Dead Space upgrade tree over a giant list of abilities to sort through. It’s sorta taking the easy way out by having you pick between various upgrades. I’m half tempted to finish it and I’m half tempted to put it down.

If the only trophy left is the one to get 65% of the compendium and I missed a lot of items I have to replay it all right?

With NG+ i keep the collectables I already have and maybe half way in I get the trophy... or I have to collect them all again?

NG+ keeps collectibles but I think that's bugged. I played through with NG+ and only missed ONE Guardian item. I have like 82-86%. Still didn't pop.

Just finished. The game is pretty long btw. It was great and a damn good game. At times, it felt like a first party sony exclusive. Everything about this game is great except the combat is okayish. The best part is the constant banter between the team. Very enjoyable experience overall. 100% Worth the money.

The humor in this game is really great, which, it's GoTG so it better be. Voice actors are really good, too. Gamora and Drax are my favorite so far. Quill is probably the weakest, but not bad by any means. This game would be perfect if you could switch between the Guardians during combat. Still loving it. Gonna binge out tonight and play until I drop.

I am so tortured right now in wanting this based on opinions, seems like it's everything marvel avengers isn't
It's a great game. Pretty linear with side paths scattered around. I absolutely love the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie so I don't regret getting it at launch one bit. If you're busy and/or looking to save money, Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals will be coming soon so there's not a whole lot of harm in waiting for a couple weeks.

This game is better than the sum of it's parts. I'm really enjoying my time with it. Super happy I bought on the PC for DLSS as I'm currently playing 1440p, Quality mode, max graphics and RT enabled (RT not maxed) and hitting over 60fps most of the time with a 2080. Definitely a superior experience than if I would have bought on PS5.

Aaarrrgghh. The trailer looked great and after reading these impressions I think I need to buy it.
Probs on XSX over PS5 due to HDD space.

Looks right up my alley.

Finished Miles Morales last night, this is next. Can't wait to start.

I'm happy they went the comics way instead of the movies. Movies are fine, part 2 esp. but the comics are better.

Just completed it and it’s by far my GOTY right now.

The story is good and the dialogue and interactions are the best I’ve come across in gaming. How they made every character feel so unique and alive with their own personality I still don’t understand, it really felt like they weren’t AI controlled which is shocking.

Can’t wait for a sequel.

Yea it’s my GOTY too. Going to finish the Plat on PS5 and then do a single run 1000/1000 on XSX.

I didn't know
Motley Crue
blasting away in the background during a fight was something I needed to experience. As someone that grew up with that era of music it's hard not to smile at some of the absurdly on point music choices for certain battles/segments.

Just platinumed the game.

Needed to run through most of the game again so I chose different options this time.

I thought most of my choices would be rather meaningless and change some dialogue and actions here and there but a fair few changed quite a bit, far more than I expected at least.

Surprised me.

Absolutely.

He even made a follow-up, cause not all of the crap made it to the first video (honestly just watch the first 5 mins of this one, it is eye opening, especially the part at around 4:00):

Another example of the typical AAA experience. 0 gameplay. 0 challenge. Game plays itself most of the time to the point that it becomes insulting to gamers (so journalists love it, go figure...).
The only "difficulty" comes not from true difficulty but crappy controls every now and again.
Basically a slightly-more-interactive interactive movie experience.

This isn't even handholding anymore.
It's like "assisted living", but for gaming.
I can only shake my head at stuff like this.

Somewhat get the appeal of a "game" like those Dark Pictures Anthology games, where you can at least make decisions that actually have an impact and invite multiple playthroughs.
But this game just pretends to be an action game, albeit with the action being reduced to whatever you want to call what's going on there while safely simulating danger around you.

"How are you not insulted by this?"
Indeed.

Never heard of him and after watching that its no wonder he has so few subs.

Yeah I can't take anyone seriously if they say this game just plays itself and is hand-holdy. You're constantly interacting with the team mates and having to make choices, whether it's through really well written dialog branches, or choosing which teammate to issue commands during exploring to help you reach new areas, or in combat which brings more of a strategic element instead of just Star-lord being a generic run and gun third person shooter. Could use some more polish but the gameplay and combat is still quite fun once you unlock more abilities for the whole squad.

The 65% collectibles trophy is 100% bugged. I got 100% collected on the second playthrough and it didn’t unlock. Meaning I can’t get the Platinum.

This is super weird. After seeing skillup and everyone praising this game I'm kind of confused on if I should get it or not. Every trailer and piece of gameplay I saw looked cringe af but everyone is talking about the "writing" being good so maybe Marketing just dropped the ball here?

Nothing is cringe about this game... This has one of the best and most natural writing in a video game

Beat the game last night. What a wonderful ride. Like I said when I first started playing, its basically another top-notch Uncharted game - the best since Uncharted 2 IMO

I also accidentally got an amazingly hilarious ending because I was 200 credits short from paying the Nova fine so they disabled my ship right at the end when Quill was talking into the mirror

The trailers and demo snippets really didn’t do this game any justice. It’s one of the best story-driven games of the generation. Maybe it was just hard to demo the characterizations and comedy writing in short trailers too but this game ended up being a huge surprise. I thought it looked average in the marketing, though the launch and reveal trailers were fine, but mostly bought this game as a fan of Eidos and Deus Ex.

This game is pure joy, also it looks utterly insane when maxed out. Dialogue flows naturally, Rockett is the most entertaining sidekick in a long long while and the story is super solid. It's a shame they utterly fucked up the marketing around it

Problem was the cleaners, had no voice acting. Bought the g560 speakers after a lot of recommendations and so far they're shite

For some reason this game just doesn't run smooth for me even though the framerate is high. Alot of microstutter and hitching when I turn the camera. Im using a 3080ti paired with a 3700x. Maybe I should do a clean reinstall. I have the Epic Store version. Anybody else have performance issues on PC?

I beat it last night. Its good but falls short of being great IMO. Its definitely a case where the devs are hoping the style and personality makes up for some of the gameplay deficits

Pros

-Good graphics
-the worlds are visually interesting
-leans pretty dang hard in the more bizzaro cosmic Marvel stuff. Way more than the movies. This could potentially be a con for some.
-well established characters
-pretty good writing
-combat is fun*

Cons:
-* combat is also very simplistic and doesnt require much strategy. Its also a bit chaotic and could use some refining. I didnt get the team takedown with rocket trophy and I still dont understand how it determines to do this except for finishing an enemy with melee close to the team member but it seems random when it triggers or doesnt.

-there is almost nothing else to do outside of combat. Occasional easy puzzles but they are pretty rare. Team chatter makes it more interesting but I can see people who don't enjoy this type of thing being really annoyed.
