Mass Effect 3 PS3 details coming April
Wednesday 30-Mar-2011 11:10 AM First look coming in next month's games mags

It looks like Mass Effect 3 gameplay details should be with us within a month, as games mags start to tease the BioWare sequel for their next issues.

One such mag is respected UK unofficial title, PSM3. Its current edition promises a "world-first look at Mass Effect 3 on PS3" in its next issue, which goes on sale on April 28.

The French Official PlayStation Magazine's also promising a "long overdue" gaming return for its next issue, whilst US retailer mag Game Informer's promising a reveal of a "highly anticipated" sequel to one of 2010's best games. That's Mass Effect 3, then.

It'll be a busy month for game fans by the looks of it, especially if as reported Modern Warfare 3 shows its cards in mid-April too.

Mass Effect 2's final DLC add-on, Arrival, hit Xbox Live yesterday.

I'm going to stand by my prediction from a few months ago that this is also next month's Game Informer cover, so we should see it in about a week or two.

Don't get how ME3 is 'long overdue' since #2 just finished wiping up the Awards, but hey. I'll take anything ME3 related. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm interested in how ME3 is going to playout gameplay wise. The first was more RPG heavy and the 2nd was quite different. I wonder which one they're going to stick with for the 3. I just finished Arrival and i have to say I'm a bit disappointed in it compared to LOTSB and Overlord.

Gaming industry now expects yearly sequels to everything. Any over 12 months is 'long overdue.'

I can't wait! I was expecting something at E3 last year, so it feels pretty overdue to me.

I wouldn't take Arrival as an indication of ME3's quality. Even so, it was still better than all the DA:O DLC :(

EDIT: ME2 constantly mentioned ME3 in the loading screens, so they were hyping it up even as we were playing through the first time around.

that French mag is probably about Max Payne 3, CVG is just an awful site at reporting.

Return to the larger levels of the first game is priority one.

ME2 was to much of a corridor shooter.

Priority two has to be the inclusion of more complex RPG mechanics

Bioware gamers want RPGs dammit!

ME2 was NOT some kind of gigantic hit that proves that gamers want all flash and no substance. I don't understand why Bioware thinks that a 'cinematic' experience has to involve removing complexity.

If they think that, it's not because of ME2, or not just because of ME2. *sigh*

They were mentioning "big, big levels" in their live chat.

Whether they're giant open areas or gigantic corridors though remains to be seen. :P

Big areas populated by crates and chest-high walls, I assume.

I just want assurance that the focus will remain on single player instead of some kind of half-assed co-op.

I need to play ME2 by then.
Man, I loved ME1 so much, but all the mixed impressions from fans of the original has me worried.

Don't worry. I loved one and thought two was a lot better in most departments. The main story is a bit of a let down compared to 1 but by no means less entertaining. And the party members wipe the floor with the originals.

You owe it to yourself to at least try it if your a fan.

It really depends on what you are looking for.

If you wanted a somewhat possibly fun shooter set in space then Mass Effect 2 is fine.

If you are looking for a follow up to the story in Mass Effect 1 then you probably won't like 2.

The characters are pretty good though. I guess.

I seriously hope they are getting rid of the "probing". Not for nothing I liked having to find the deposits on the planets themselves, They fixed the awful issues with the Mako controls with the Firestorm but then they got rid of planet exploration completely! Well except for a few added levels with "Go from point A from point B and shoot stuff along the way."

Duuuuude, co-op in this game would be fucking awesome.

It would be boring as hell for the co-op partner outside of the actual fighting, which is quite a bit. To focus it on co-op they would have to restructure the entire game and I expect it would further dumb down the RPG elements to keep the action going.

Basically, not as epic main story....far better everything else. Except maybe the level up system. More detailed in ME1. But eh on that.

I don't think it will be co-op, but a full multiplayer portion (with maybe some Uncharted 2 like co-op missions).

With ME2 gameplay---biotics, perks, shields, barrier, armor, tech abilities, etc etc etc, it could be cool.

Let's focus on the single player, however. It's a different studio making the multi anyway.

I love ME2, but if Arrival is a taste of the gameplay in ME3 then count me unexcited.

What was so different gameplay-wise from Arrival and ME2? I can only speak for myself, but I noticed nothing different as far as gameplay goes from ME2 to Arrival.

The Game Informer cover could be Assassin's Creed 3 actually. Ubisoft said they're going to be talking about that game in April or May.

I'm not a big fan of the design behind the Mass Effect games, they felt too compartmentalised and flowchart-y (especially 2). Wish it felt a bit more dynamic. Although, it's sort of hard to do when trying to tell a personal story on an intergalactic scale.

But I love the universe that Bioware created and I when I play them, I enjoy them. So I guess I am looking forward to 3 in a way. Just wish they felt more like a traditional RPG.

you know... squadmates.

also ME2 had good arena design.

Mass Effect 3 needs a lot more polishing than 2 received, that's for sure

Well, there were some pretty big glitches on PS3 right? Like a saved game bug or something?

On the 360 though it was one of the most polished games that came out that year.

Can't wait to see the tagline:

The Trial of Commander Shepard

It'd fit right in with the whole "Shepard is Dead" thing that was used to hype ME2.

What if the multiplayer was 4 player coop squads? I'd venture a guess that that would be freaking epic

That would fucking suck.

You guys will get your little multiplayer action-filled Mass Effect game. Just please leave the Shepard trilogy as a single-player based experience, PLEASE.

Probably won't read any of this anyway, even news titles on blogs.

I was successful with my media blackout on ME2 and all DLC and it paid off.

My blackout burned me bad, because I was blindsided by all the changes.

Plan on going in a little more informed this time through.

Will this be the last one?

Please don't turn out like DA:2 with copy/paste level design

I hope they add communication between party members during the dialogs. I'd have to say that was one thing i liked about in Dragon Age, was depending on what party members you had with you they would hop in and out in the conversation with either you or the other person. And they improved upon that in Dragon Age 2 where the party members could directly speak if you chose so. In Mass Effect 2 they just walked around in the background or just sat there looking at you.
