The impact on Tokyo especially will probably be pretty bad, since a large percentage of sales generally come from the main cities.

This is what I was thinking would be the wisest decision for Capcom. Releasing two seperate games with similar gameplay mechanics. Have the NGP Monster Hunter play to the strengths of 3G and added horsepower. While the 3DS Monster Hunters plays to the strengths of Streepass, and 3D.duckroll said:It would actually make sense if they release two completely different MHP games for each platform to test how viable it is. Since cross-platform play is out of the question, it would be most effective to do it in a way where they can see if gamers are happy to play a MHP game on any portable platform, as long as they can play with their friends.
Seriously. Lets release 3 mainline RE games on Playstation platforms. Then lets do a spinoff on a Sega console and then anounce 3 exclusive mainline RE games for a Nintendo console. Finally we'll announce the next mainline game on the 360. I don't think franchise exclusivity or brand loyalty matters at all to Capcom and they really seem to just sporadically release a lot of their franchise However they are feeling that day.I'm not sure even Capcom knows why they put games on certain platforms. Sometimes I think they have a well stocked fridge full of saki and a huge dartboard.

Sammy Samusu said:Resident Evil Zero, Remake, Chronicles, Zack & Wiki,... those titles are still exclusive, and Monster Hunter Tri too, to some degree.Spyborgs
I'm aware that a lot of these got ported but I'm just saying at the initial time of anouncement and where the definitive version of the game was launched were a bit odd and all over the place. I agree Revelations will be a CV or Peace Walker esque entry. I was simply making a point that Capcom somewhat arbitrarily puts franchises on different consoles/platforms. For example Monster Hunter Tri going somewhat exclusively to Wii. The Street Fighter franchise has gone a couple different places same with Megaman. Yes they more heavily support the leading console but they do anounce a lot of exclusive titles to the underdogs as well ie Dreamcast, Gamecube, PSP and whomever you consider the underdog this gen for consoles.Cosmonaut X said:Three mainline RE games = PlayStation releases, all on the king of that generation. Even then, they ported RE to other systems, RE2 got an N64 version etc.
Spinoff on Dreamcast = Capcom hedging their bets. The PS2 wasn't out yet, and it was a reasonable move to put a non-numbered title on the first next-gen system out (and it eventually made it back to that gen's king, anyway.
Three exclusive games for GC = the most important (i.e. numbered) one made it to the PS2, anyway, but there was obviously a moneyhat of sorts here.
The pattern with RE seems to be that that gen's "winner" gets the numbered, mainline games, either exclusively or with definitive/expanded editions, while they release mainly subtitled spin-offs, ports and remakes on the other platforms. This gen was a bit of an oddity in that - in terms of hardware sales - the Wii was the "winner" and got a number of original titles and remakes, but the pattern still holds up with the HD twins getting the mainline game:
PS = RE/REC/REual Shock, RE2, RE3, RE: Survivor
Saturn: RE
N64: RE2
PS2 = RE:CVX, RE4, RE:Outbreak/Outbreak File 2, RE: Survivor 2, RE: Dead Aim
DC = RE:CV
GC = RE4, REMake, RE Zero, RE2, RE3, RE:CVX
Xbox = nothing
PS3/360 = RE5/RE5 Gold
Wii = RE4Wii, RE:UC, RESC, REMake Wii, RE Zero Wii
DS = RES
The next step for the franchise will be interesting, as it seems that RE6 is in development either for the HD twins or perhaps for a next-gen system, but RE: Revelations is being referred to as a mainline game. I'd guess that Revelations will be more like Code Veronica than RE4, but we'll see what happens.
