Am I mistaken or is MGSV not performing as well as previous MGS games?

It's essentially a paid demo, 100k on both platform is amazing actually.
Where's that "Oh My Goldo" gifs when you need them?MarvelousAQL announced that Valhalla Knights 3 + Valhalla Knights 3 Gold have surpassed 100,000 units: http://www.famitsu.com/news/201403/27050591.html
Good one. Puts into perspective how bad wiiu software wise was last year.
This year, for now, is better. Even though is still awful. Either way, in 2014 se have those titles plus for the rest of the year:
One piece unlimited red
Bayonetta
Zelda musou
X
Smash Bros
Those are the guaranteed. There might be some more colaborations, stuff announced a couple of months before release, like just dance or some surprises. I guess namco may try another taiko and there might be some other games for the holidays... I dont know but for now, nintendo needs to try to mantain the momentum after kart.

Japan - note these game shipments are packaged only and hence dont include downloads. Konami was targeting 1.5m MGSV:GZ globally

It's somewhat amusing that some people think the Vita doing maybe 1.5? 2M? in Japan this year somehow changes that it's ultimately a dead system. And are presumably trying to extrapolate that to the other moribund system.
30k a week is mediocre? wtf at these sales age noobs who have only been around since the DS exploded. PS2 and GBA used to regularly pull in 30k a week. It's a good number, especially for hardware that will outlive its front-loaded competitors by several years.Well it's really both; the vita went from terrible to mediocre, and the 3DS has gone from good to mediocre.

The market and expectations changed last gen.
When the 3DS/Vita successors do 30k, that'll be considered good again.
Keep in mind that even if 3DS's full YTD is 1/2 of last year, and then it halves again next year, it'll still beat PSP/PS2.
I will never understand the sales-age definition of 'dead'. The only platform showing any growth, with a steady stream of retail releases, and it's dead. Makes no sense, even if you actually mean 'irrelevant'.It's somewhat amusing that some people think the Vita doing maybe 1.5? 2M? in Japan this year somehow changes that it's ultimately a dead system. Regardless, the Vita is a dead system in the same way that Japan is a dead market. You just adjust your expectations and hope for better in the future.
Fuckin' deep, man.well not to put words into his mouth, but going from the use of 'ultimately,' i assume he's speaking of the broader market. of course by now the generation is half-over and we're in or entering a decline period anyway. and yeah, by the same metric, pretty much nothing matters because everything is always eventually over.
oh my god.
The fact that retail PSP games still exist in 2014 is hilarious. I wonder how much money Sony is wasting in keeping UMD disc manufacturing alive.
Atlus: Pre-Order Persona Q Now!

the struggle
No idea if it's a good sign or not... Looks like Atlus is really conservative with their shipments, they seem to want to avoid overshipping at all costs (that's pretty understandable, they're not really a company putting million-sellers every 6 months or so).
Anyway, hope Persona Q performs well.
Dengeki out
http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/000/829/829037/
Donkey Kong 4,688/78,140
Zelda out of Top 50 (<2,117)
Donkey Kong went from a million seller to struggling to sell 100k. Damn.
Nintendo's sales target was a million for this titel in Japan?

Wii U effect
That's not the first Nintendo franchise that is struggling this gen.
I mean, how much did Wii Fit and Wii Play sell this gen compare to the last one?
More like Wii-effect. Donkey Kong became huge because Wii was huge. And Wii became huge because of the motion controls and not the traditional Nintendo games.
Didn't all Nintendo franchises sell more on the Wii because of its success?
Wii U is just back to normal Nintendo, I think. Following Gamcube's steps.
Yeah. Wii greatly inflated the selling power of Nintendo's franchises.
I think software is doing worse on WiiU than Gamecube. Zelda will sell worse, DK has sold worse, Pikmin has sold worse and 3D mario has sold worse. Really the only franchise I expect a better performance is MK only because the series became insanely popular after Wii and I'm sure that increased brand awareness.
Do they always like this with their other games?
“In the case of the last few Atlus games, be it [Shin Megami Tensei IV] or [Etrian Odyssey Untold], there have been a lot of stores out of stock after the first week, or in the worst cases, on release day itself. We feel deeply for all the customers that were looking forward to our games but contacted us saying, ‘I couldn’t buy it.’ For those who plan on buying Persona Q, we believe it is safer to pre-order the game. We’ll be counting on your orders.”
Isn't Pikmin 3 perfomance comparably good or at least "fine" to Pikmin 1 and 2?
Yeah I remember Dragon's Crown have severe shortage during its first and second weeks, which I presume make many people resort to digital copy since Dragon's Crown also charted top 10 PSN sales that month. Undershipping so many games, I don't think conservative being the right word for them.No idea, but I do remember some previous Atlus game got some (sometime severe) shortages after launch (Dragon Crown was one of them).
You'd think that retailers wouldn't be that wary, since it's happened several times in the past. And it's not like Atlus would need to shipment loads of additional copies to avoid shortages (and besides, those usually don't last very long).
It's really no big deal, though, I'm just slightly puzzled.
Well, Wii U abyssmal user base indeed hurts it leg. At least Pikmin 3 still have its own main audience following it into a new platform.first week or 2 was, its less than half their ltds last we saw it in the chart]s. It was evident early on it would not have close to the legs of the previous games

I suspect you're right, and it's a massive whack in the bollocks. Just as mobile technology soars, and OLED displays with twin sticks become feasible. Just as digital distribution begins to mature as a service. Just as indies fill in the role of traditional, shorter 'handheld' games but the power is there to recreate console-style games too.Yeah because Sony isn't releasing another handheld.
Yeah because Sony isn't releasing another handheld.
It means that 3DS situation is not good, not that Vita situation is getting better.

#DQ10
Also, i disagree that it was a Wii effect that made the franchises sell better. More like a userbase effect. Mario 3d land is the best selling 3d mario by a huge margin for example. The userbase on the u bugs less games and is tiny, so its a very rough situation.
30k a week for non holiday weeks is not mediocre. That (with the holiday bumps) would put yearly sales at 1.5-1.8 million. I mean compared to past generations that is mediocre, but looking at the current Japanese gaming industry I would call that decent.
