People were thinking that the ps4 will sell ps2 numbers before the launch, i think that ps4 will be a great success if it manages to sell anywhere close to the ps3
PSP?
Late gen PSP showed a similar disparity.
That said it was doing notably better everywhere.

Isn't it launching a full year after the original game? The game taking so long to take off is what throws things out of order. Although I do agree that they should ride this out a little more.

New users as in new owners. Out of curiousity, in what other ways could new users mean and what relevance does the PSP has to the previous arguements? New users as in people who didnt use to play games before? In that case, i dont think there are much untapped market left in the gaming industry, especially after the DS and cellphone/tablets happened. I dont think that the PSP brought in many new users in this case either, i think most PSP owners were already playing games before, but that is just a pure guess from my side though
About the Vita, if the increased Vita support only sold to excisting owners, then the Vita hardware sales should technically decrease, but its increasing instead. I think one big reason for this is because of the increased game support.

I knew i had read it somewhere that VitaTV wouldnt be tracked anymore, but i forgot that it was Dengeki.Wasn't PSP a bigger success than Vita in Japan because of Monster Hunter?

No one should be surprised that 3DS and Wii U sales are down. Around this time last year, Luigi's Mansion and Animal Crossing were still charting, and Wii U had still launched pretty recently. Meanwhile, Vita was in a dry period this time last year.
So Vita beating 3DS is no surprise. It's actually kind of pathetic how weak the lead is given the substantially weaker position 3DS is in this year.
Look at the LTD sales last year.

3DS sales getting higher means fewer potential customers. Same with Wii U sales (although Wii U is obviously not approaching saturation). The higher the sales get, the worse the sales hits get during drought periods.
People are looking at the numbers, but they're not looking at the variables that influence those numbers.

I'm the tiniest bit hopeful for Minecraft. For a while I thought they might not even put it out at retail, but now it appears they're going to, so that's a start. Now bundle the damn thing and advertise it. Everywhere.
I agree I can't ever see Sony paying for a standalone Vita GTA...but if Rockstar could just bundle up the 3 android GTA re-releases for Vita that'd be a nice start. Hell, call it an HD Trilogy if they want. I'd buy it for sure.

I wonder if the decision was accelerated with Yokai's inclusion in the new free game programme over there; give it away for free to new purchasers now, and down the line secure a sequel sale to them.
Maybe not even next year.

Vita is selling weekly more in Japan than it does monthly in US. PSP was pretty healthy in west until late gen. Still like Nirolak said maybe late gen PSP is closest example. Vita is in completely different league though.

PSP had way more support on the Western front. I mean the GTA games alone were system seller for it in the Western markets.
Vita has no such luck. Hopefully Minecraft(and Borderlands 2) can do some wonder for it.
Hmmm, possibly but even so I don't see a need to have the sequel this early. They would still benefit form this program creating a larger fanbase if they released the sequel in December for example.
