Wii Party U and NSMBU are charting because of bundles.
How much would it cost Sony to get take a random off the shelf powerful Mobile SoC(like krait or Tegra) and throw it in a case with Vita's OS on it? I could see them doing something like that and making it Japan only, maybe only selling it from online retailers in the west.Handhelds don't just make themselves. The substantial R&D that goes into building these systems will prevent Sony from making another system, and if they do release another handheld it will not be the same kind of handheld you want or expect from Sony with the reduced budget they would be going into making the system. Plus, who in the world is going to sell this new system that would likely do away with physical media altogether? Sony will release something mobile related to gaming probably, but they are not releasing another dedicated handheld.
Also I would be shocked when if you take into account Vita's R&D, marketing, and game development if Sony has come anywhere close to profiting on the whole project. And the fact that Sony continues to sell the device does not prove they have made their money back.
So is Yo-kai Watch coming to the US?

Does anyone know if the Xperia tablets sell well? I own a Sony Tablet S which apparently was kind of a bomba. What I mean is, a PlayStation tablet? Is that automatically going to be a profitable product just because "tablets are popular"?

I swapped the OP with Chris' post.

Thanks for the effort in the first place though
Throw together.. lol... I understand your not an engineer but things aren't quite as simple as you think they are. Even something like that could turn out quite problematic or expensive if not handheld properly.
Iwata said the next handheld and console will share their architecture which will be based off of the Wii U's.
Architecture, not hardware.
Edit, here is the quote:
Sony is being aggressive in Japan where they are relevant.
Lol what nonsense. The PS3 and the Vita are nothing alike. The Vita is made from off shelf components that go down quickly in price. Not to mention that 48% of Vita software is bought digitally. The PS3 was selling much better than the Vita. With the abysmal Vita sales in the west Sony would killed in the west and not bothered bringing games or Vita 2000 over from Japan and making it an indie machine. That alone shows that the Vita make money for Sony, or they would have killed it in the west.
Nintendo has a cozy relationship with Panasonic so they could be a contender.
How does this matter to Japan again? The PS3 has a much larger base and yet games like Guacamelee and retro city rampage sold better on the vita. Install base does not matter much. Who own the system matter. Vita has a healthy attach rate.
I like my 2DS Why can't Japan like it as well.To be blunt (not at you):
The 2DS won't do shit in Japan.
It's not portable enough.
It looks like a stopgap designed for the west & it feels like it.
Japan is not really as price-sensitive as other regions, which is why 2DS is not there yet. I'm not saying it won't get released there, but I wouldn't expect it to boost 3DS considerably.I like my 2DS Why can't Japan like it as well.
Which is precisely what they should be doing
Tablet with buttons and analogs to match ds4 so it works perfectly with streamed games from PS4 and from PS Now service.
Compatible with android games and most importantly apps
Native games built upon wastly expanded PSM.

Not their handheld but I would bet on Panasonic being involved with their QOL thing.
Should Nintendo also merge with another company, I also see panasonic as the best bet.
They could incorporate fc/sfc VC games with their TVs & AVOD systems
They are now on licensed IP with very clear upgrade paths (ARM + PowerVR SGX). They wouldn't have to invent a whole new architecture again to produce a noticable spec bump. Better yet, they regularly spec very similar SoCs for their (now fully absorbed) smartphone business. So that's kind of an already running process.Throw together.. lol... That'd be fucking weird.
To me, if any company goes fusion-ha with Nintendo, it'd be Sega, with the old guard joining in as icing on the cake like Oshina at Arzest and Naka at Prope, they have Yasuhara rotting at NST, only matter of time BWAHAHAHA *ahem*.

I remember they had a field trip to look at beauty and fitness products and also saw products for sleeping and skincare.

In Japan? Maybe on launch week. After that it won't last long until it is pretty much dead.Doesn't set a good precedent Xbox One sales, hopefully they can at least match Wii U numbers for a while.

I'm 100% convinced that unless Sony or Nintendo release something radically different from what we've seen, they MUST release something with Android or iOS capabilities for their future handhelds. Dedicated gaming hardware is absolutely dead.
Another solution would probablt be to make it as easy as possible to port things over from Android or iOS.
Curious, why do you think Android or iOS (smartphone for short) capabilities are a must have for a dedicated handheld? What capabilities are you talking about? Why would someone buy a handheld with smartphone capabilities when they already have a smartphone?I'm 100% convinced that unless Sony or Nintendo release something radically different from what we've seen, they MUST release something with Android or iOS capabilities for their future handhelds. Some people think the market will shift from iPhones and Galaxies to DSPhones and Vitaphones by virtue of Sony or Nintendo making a phone. As if the phone market wasn't overcrowded, super competitive and in the end a never ending cycle of yearly releases of hardware. People see mobile games making money and think "Sony and Nintendo need to make phones!" not realizing mobile took off because of the already existing, massive user base. Sony is not convincing many people to go from iPhone to Xperia, yet some people think they could do this with a half handheld device from Nintendo or Sony.Curious, why do you think Android or iOS (smartphone for short) capabilities are a must have for a dedicated handheld? Nintendo already did with the Nintendo Web Framework IIRC.

That's for browser games, isn't it?
Here's what I mean. We've seen the enormous profits that mobile developers are raking in, and Japan in particular has fully moved to smartphone gaming. Any handheld that doesn't cater to that audience will fail, in my opinion. And I think we can all agree that Nintendo won't simply move their games to smartphones, as that's just bad business. So what do you do? You release a multi-purpose gaming device that has full access to the apps that gamers want, while giving them the Nintendo games they want to play. Of course, leaving games at $40 won't suffice.Curious, why do you think Android or iOS (smartphone for short) capabilities are a must have for a dedicated handheld? I don't think anything will make a difference for the handheld market. It is obvious there is no growth there and will eventually shrink to a certain point (unless something comes out that replaces it completely).

I'm not sure about the specific numbers, but tablets have been wildly popular, right? They are still selling quite well, even with the populace at large having smartphones that mostly have the same capabilities. It's all about pricing it competitively so that consumers will want it to accompany their smartphone. I imagine it would have to be under $200, and Nintendo/Sony would have to make a mild profit on each device sold. Sony could release at a loss and recoup those losses with the plethora of paid services they offer. Maybe Nintendo could look into that, as well.
I'm totally just posturing here. My main point is that dedicated gaming handhelds are dead. I think we agree on that point.
what fucking games did PS3 have during those first 9 weeks to not only get all of those sales, but all of those sales at 59,980 yen?
traditional gaming is so done in Japan. so sad.
