Yakuza I & II HD

Get that 20k LTD hit.

All right, so after the Direct, we've got Sonic for Wii U/3DS and Yakuza 1 + 2 HD (though oddly none of the other games, so this might be an interest gauge?).

Well, I guess that is at least some third party support.

Realistically, what can Yakuza 1+2 HD do on WiiU? It did what? 100K on PS3 and the Yakuza audience is all on PS systems. Seems a little weird for Nintendo to go after this audience with a port. I could understand if Yakuza 6 was announced at this time as well (similar to how they did MH3 and MH4), but as is, I can't see Yakuza 1+2 HD doing much on the system.

Yakuza 1 + 2 HD is so...random.
But it's history: it's the first Yakuza title coming to a non-Sony platform :lol

I'm curious as to how much this is worth. Yakuza's a strong franchise.

Sonic probably isn't worth anything.

I suspect that the retail release of Luigi U is specifically intended to get around Japan's digital aversion.

Yakuza 1&2 HD is such a weird game to try a gauge interest. It sold pretty meh on PS3 and it's not even that old. Game is going to sell like shit.

Did we finally work out how Sega counted their SKU's from the financial report?

Obviously at least 2/7 WiiU are now accounted for.

Complete list of Japanese third-party releases for Wii U during the first 8 months of 2013:

- Fist of the North Star: Ken's Rage 2 (Koei Tecmo) {2013.01.31}
- Tank! Tank! Tank! (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.02.21}
- Dragon Quest X: Mezameshi Itsutsu no Shuzoku Online (Square Enix) {2013.03.30}
- Resident Evil: Revelations - Unveiled Edition (Capcom) {2013.05.23}
- Yakuza 1 & 2 HD Edition (Sega) {2013.08.08}

Yakuza is no different from those late portings we got during the launch period, such as Mass Effect 3 or Batman.

Well, at least Sega has understood where Sonic makes sense to exist.

Pikmin 3 and NSL U retail are launching the same day in Japan right?(7/13).

Hmmm.....

Funny thing is, PSO predates Monster Hunter, if anything Monster Hunter is a PSO clone.
Yeah, i dont think that Monster Hunter is the very first game of its kind (the concept of fighting monsters in that particular way) indeed.

Isn't that mainly us spectators here in the west though? I was under the impression that the games have already "gotten their own genre" in Japan - Hunting Action.
That could be. I'm not sure how the japanese gamers in general sees it. Monster Hunter is the most dominant serie in the genre by a far margin, especially in the west, so in that way i guess it is why it is still being referred as a clone. We probably need to see more games like this before it is more seen as a genre rather than a clone.

I'm curious as to how much this is worth. Yakuza's a strong franchise.
Its the 3rd release of those games, so i think they would have to add some great new and exclusive content to the WiiU version for it to have a chance to sell good/great.

Maybe this was announced previously, but it's the first time I see any screenshots/footage of this game, if I'm not mistaking myself.

I don't know if you want to say that you did not know anything about "The Cave" or if you did not know anything about "The Cave" coming out for WiiU.

It's a Double Fine game (Ron Gilbert) and it's free this month to European PSN+ subscribers.

I kind of vaguely recall this was announced for Wii U, but I have never seen a single screenshot until this was showed at ND, I must have missed it.

Um, PSO was a button mashing dungeon crawler. You had big bosses, but it's largely focused on mobs of enemies and level grinding. There's similarities, but they aren't the same genre. You don't fight the bosses in the same way at all.

Sega is not publishing Lost World and Mario and Sonic in the EU at the very least.

Didn't catch the European presentation. Someone else is publishing?
I would think Europe would be Sonic's stronghold.

Relaunch time.

Yup. I won't go so far as to say there will be a price cut, but releasing those 2 titles the same day on a Saturday seems odd, plus you have a relatively steady stream of titles announced after that.

Honestly i havnt played PSO, so i cant say that much about it. I've just seen people mention it now and before. But i was thinking more about how far one wants to do the comparisons (goes for other games than PSO as well) :) Like you say, there are some similarities. It doesnt really matter that much though in my opinion, the games are unchanged regardless of how one defines it. I think that the word "clone" feels like some discredit towards a certain game rather than saying that a game is in a certain genre, but maybe that isnt the intention though.

EDIT: I added some text.

Huh? The Cave was released on Wii U at the same time as the other platforms back in January(?). Actually, it was slightly before the others. The announcement here is just that it's coming to the Japanese eShop.

Japan is now (sadly) Wii U's strongest market and it's already at Wii pricepoint, so I'm hesitant to guess a price cut there either. I think we definitely need one in the US though, and a drastic one at that ($50-100) to jumpstart things in August. Europe seems a bit fucked no matter what though.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
For those wondering, Yakuza 1&2 HD for Wii U is 5,229 Yen, the same price of Yakuza 1&2 HD Edition for PS3 back in December. At least retail. Digitally, it's 4,700 Yen.

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised in seeing a Dynasty Warriors 8: Empire for Wii U coming in the future. ...And it'd make much more sense than Yakuza, since DW/SW games have always seen revised versions XD

They probably want to relaunch and do a price cut before the PS4 arrives and to combat a possible PS3 price drop, so it makes sense.

I really don't think the Wii U needs a price cut in Japan but that may change depending on what the prices of the PS3 and PS4 look like post E3.

Yeah I don't think the wii u needs a price cut in Japan, it's almost the same price as a console that's been on sale in Japan for several years.

The wii u needs games in Japan badly, that's the difference between it and ps3, and the ps3 was never setting the charts on fire.

As for this thing with relaunch.

If there is a relaunch every time a redesign, a big title or a price drop happen there are many relaunches for every system.

My thought at this point is .suppose both ps3 and 4 come in at a pricepoint that severely threatens the wii u in japan and elsewhere and knowing that the Wii u is allready expensive to produce for nintendo .

would nintendo out of sheer desperation force the price down so much that they would willingly take a hefty loss on each system sold just to try and stay compettitive against the competition?

Sure, but I think people mean all of the above, along with a big marketing campaign. At least that's what I mean when I use the word "relaunch".

So ? Why should they stop when most of those are highly successfull so far ?

Ragnarok Odyssey - 300k WW (shipments+digital)
PSO2 - nearly 100k sales in retail, with another 250k or so downloads for free version - Japan only
SS - 200k in Japan retail only, good hardware boost, not bad performance in west which should at least match RO numbers there (actually more since RO wasn't retail release in PAL)

RO, PSO2 and SS are highly successfully? ok...

Would it be a bad idea for Nintendo to create its own scalable, corporation-wide proprietary engine? Not likely going to happen, but I'm just thinking.

In today's Nintendo Direct they were showing off Game and Wario, Pikmin 3, and The Wonderful 101. All supposed "launch window" games. Wii Fit U fallen even further away from when it was expected. This suggests that Nintendo's been having development issues.

Having all or most of their games run on the same engine should keep budgets down while allowing them to release titles in a more timely way. Having the team that designs the engine collaborate with the team that designs the hardware might also help prevent issues like the Wii U delays.

On top of that, they could offer free use of the engine to Wii U developers, same as their current Unity deal. It wouldn't be appealing to the big companies, but it might be helpful for indie developers.

By mere days, Wii U avoided having absolutely zero announced Japanese third-party support. Good timing!

America is Sonic's biggest market by a decent margin. Probably because it was also by far the biggest market for Sonic's major platforms (MD/Gensis, GG, DC) in Sega's hardware days.

They return the favor by shitting on us with no localizations of PSO2 and Valkyria. Thanks Sega!

In today's Nintendo Direct they were showing off Game and Wario, Pikmin 3, and The Wonderful 101. All supposed "launch window" games. Wii Fit U fallen even further away from when it was expected. This suggests that Nintendo's been having development issues.
Wii Fit U was submitted for classification ratings months ago, we know Wonderful 101 has been essentially finished for weeks now from comments out of Platinum and G&W was released in Japan in March, and likely complete much earlier. It's not development issues, Nintendo's strategically holding titles back to bolster the 2nd half.

Sales-Age Genius
and the hate continues lol
Seriously, if you can't accept reality with Wii U you'd better stay away from posting in sales threads.

Hate? Give me a break. An port of an old Yakuza PS3 HD collection on a Nintendo console will sell almost zero.
