I don't get it...
It was also really hot to the level of heat wave in Japan last week, and it came out in a holiday weekend where people were not in the streets. Even the Pokémon Centers were fairly empty and that seldom happens.
This has an effect on sales. I'm not saying this to spin but as an explanation. You need to factor in all the factors in order to make a determination.
I'm curious to see how Mario Kart will perform. Could be big for the Wii U.
And still most nintendo firstparty games sell more than these games in Japan. There aren't a lot of million sellers in that list of third party games.
Sony was very lucky with PS4 in the West. Hype drove sales, despite a lack of worthwhile killer exclusives. In Japan, the situation is much more dire for them, especially since the content they do have isn't appealing to that region. Wii U will cross streams with PS4 within the next two weeks, and I'm not sure if and when they cross back.
I don't know where this illusion comes that PS4 (or Xbone) somewhat had lackluster and unappealing software launch lineup in the west. You can't go bigger than BF, COD, AC or FIFA when it comes to appealing to mainstream audience. These games may not appeal to gaffers but they appeal to mainstream. PS4 had best versions of all these games.

PC Had the best version of those games and they were available (for cheaper) on last gen hardware.
People will upgrade for games they just can't play on their current hardware, they won't otherwise.
PS4 is selling on hype alone in the west. Its exclusives have been lackluster or selling inline with their PS3 versions (KZ was terrible, Knack is dreadfull and I haven't played Infamous but I doubt it tells a different sales story than Infamous 1 and 2)
When the best PS4 launch game is a freebie, you know you have problems(I'm looking at you, Resogun)
Sure, same thing could have been said about the last generation, where the besy version of the same toyles was available on PC, especially true late in the generation when getting a good gaming PC was relatively easy.
People who bought a console last generation, are likely to buy one now. The parity between PC and console version is at its best right now.
Actually no, in 2005/2006 most third party games weren't available on PC or were some very rushed out/terrible ports.
This is no longer the case. XBox One and PS4 have a lot more competition from the PC this generation, especially at their current price point (460$ pre tax and without a game to play your games online). Their dire lack of exclusives (the XBONE slightly less so) isn't helping either. Of course all of that is without counting the competition from the mobile space.
I should have specified that I didn't mean the beginning of the last generation. But look at the last 4-5 years.
Your argument PS4 is selling on the hype alone just isn't very solid. PS4 has all the big games, that has been selling best on consoles year after year. People won't suddently buy a gaming PC to play the best versions of those games, just because generation has ended. They could have done the same thing a number of years ago. They are more likely to either not upgrade at all or get the next iteration of the consolea.
The 8k club. PS4 and Wii U switch next week?
Who would have thought we would be seeing this so soon. Curious to see how MK drives sales in japan.
Lol so that's where joe got his tagLast year somebody said Yakuza 1&2 HD (WiiU version) wasn't on Famitsu/MC top50 because a heatwave stoped people from buying the game.
Since that day everytime something bombs it's been a heatwave (or snowstorm in Winter).
I think this started it all:
Curtain Call still in the top ;_;7

Every game you listed is available on the systems everybody already owns. Hype sold the system.I don't know where this illusion comes that PS4 (or Xbone) somewhat had lackluster and unappealing software launch lineup in the west. You can't go bigger than BF, COD, AC or FIFA when it comes to appealing to mainstream audience. These games may not appeal to gaffers but they appeal to mainstream. PS4 had best versions of all these games. Especially BF4 is almost completely different game between last and current gen (60fps and 64 players). If you want to pick platform that sold on hype alone PS2 in Japan is your answer.
3DS: Mario Golf World Tour ( Nintendo ) { 2014-05-01 } - 58,745 / 82.829
GBA : Mario Golf: Advance Tour ( Nintendo ) { 2004-04-22 } - 28,581 / 88,904
NGC : Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour ( Nintendo ) { 2003-09-05 } - 63,263 / 192,802
N64 : Mario Golf 64 ( Nintendo ) { 1999-06-11 } - 126,108 / 470,778
NGB : Mario Golf GB ( Nintendo ) { 1999-08-10 } - 92,760 / 219,830
The sales are disappointing to my eyes but the series has experienced drops with each new iteration, 3DS seems to be breaking that trend though.

So what is everyone expecting for Wii U/MK8 during MK8 week?
Does 50k Wii Us and 200k Mario Karts make sense? That seems low, but Japan isn't getting an MK8 bundle, right?
People upgrade when they see a lot of ads in tv advertizing their favorite franchise and those ads say ''better on next gen''. Sure the bigger wave comes when they go fully this gen with these games but even these ports absolutely sell the systems. COD Ghost is currently the best selling game on both PS4 and Xbone and this year Advanced Warfare probably already sells more on this gen consoles than last gen consoles. Big multiplatform games sell the systems in west. Not exclusives.
No, Advanced Warfare isn't going to sell more on XBONE/PS4 than 360/PS3.
It won't even be close.
Thanks. Good to see the 3DS ending that trend. Also, Gamecube sales weren't bad at all. I can't see a Mario Golf on Wii U breaking 100k.

Unlike most people, I'm okay with Japan being handheld-land. Other regions seem to like handhelds less now, but despite Japan's huge crush on mobile, 3DS has done pretty well in Japan. So yeah, I like seeing 3DS and Vita in first and second place, I just wish WiiU wouldn't sell so miserably![]()

Wow that is crazy shit right there. Also, surprised that the PSP lasted longer than the DS.
It was basically the lowest cost "core" system, offering a discernible upgrade from the previous gen, and MS brought on-board a critical mass of third party content.
That's basically the gist of what the PS4 has done now too.
I don't think the formula has been dramatically reworked.
Also wasn't it only really later in the PS2 cycle where it started focusing on things like SingStar and Eyetoy from memory?
20./28. [3DS] Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Mankind <ACT> (Spike Chunsoft) {2013.12.05} (¥6.090) - 3.572 / 263.564 <80-100%> (+1%)
Looks like I got a bit too impatient >_>... Thanks for the #s as usual =).
24./29. [3DS] Harvest Moon: Linking the New World <SLG> (Marvelous AQL) {2014.02.27} (¥5.040) - 2.894 / 210.649 <80-100%> (-13%)
Is this the highest for a Harvest Moon game ever? I don't remember any of them selling more than 200K...
Konami has announced something new for Vita! And it's not a baseball game, finally!
Yes, it's the other kind of Vita game. One with anime girls.
