MK8 is great, Wii U? ...well I was wrong on that one for sure. Sub 20k is pretty dismal.

Edit: Also Yokai Watch is a million seller! Neat

Mario Kart 7 being up this week is also pretty nice. I think Nintendo should make a DLC cup that is crossplay between MK8 and 7. Might help add to their longevity sales-wise.

In fact seems to be a bad week for hardware all around. I guess home consoles really are dying.

I hope the good sales of MK8 can sustain the hardware to a better baseline.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Yokai Watch doesnt give a damn.
Disappointing WiiU hw sales, this pretty much wraps it up for mayor home console performances in this generation. MK8 did well though.

Though the Wii U sales weren't great, they did account for ~26% of hardware sales last week, as did the 3DS LL. Considering how badly all hardware is doing in Japan right now, it's not too bad I guess. Wish it was higher, though. If Mario Kart can't sell systems with its sheer brilliance, then what on earth will?

Still, software sales for MK8 are decent enough.

Let's see how things will be the next week.

I'm honestly stunned at Wii U's hardware sales. I expected a much larger bump than that from Mario Kart 8. The game itself sold well, but that hardware ...

I'd like to see how it charts next week following/going into E3. That should be more interesting. If it continues doing pretty ok numbers, I think it'll be fine.

Hopefully MK8 will at least be able to raise the weekly baseline for an extended period of time. Wii U's sales are definitely very disappointing, though, even if it doesn't come as a surprise. I'm sure that Nintendo will push MK8 really hard until the end of the holiday season, though.

Pretty damning hardware sales for WiiU (and everything really) but at least Mario Kart 8 itself did really well - about in line with what I would have expected. But dat HW bump...

Software numbers for Mario Kart are great but godamn are those hardware numbers depressing, for everyone for that matter, especially Wii U on the release of Mario Kart. Bundle could of helped.

Ok to reiterate in this new thread. It looks like most Nintendo faithful have already bought the system and only those people bought Mario Kart. That's why the software numbers for MK are pretty good. The bump for the system is nothing impressive and I doubt they can sustain it. If this is what Mk can do Smash will not change anything.

I think we can prepare ourselves for a 'mobile' change in the near and upcoming future. Only handhelds will be doing well in Japan, while the normal consoles will all struggle and perform pretty badly. A shame, but it is what it is I guess.

guyz don't give up on japan console market, keep in mind the Xbox One has yet to be released there, lets give japan another chance to redeem themselves.

man that is some sad hardware figures. wii u should have been more with the buzz around mk8 being so high. kinda crazy to think maybe the people that wanted nintendo games already have a wii u at this point and the hardware is never going to get a steady increase in sales over an extended period of time.

Software numbers are fantastic, but hardware's sales are depressing. The only positive thing is that Wii U's userbase seems very active and very eager to get new games. Said otherwise: sold Wii U are not collecting dust. Still....hardware's sales point out that Wii U will not recover. Well, I suppose it had to be expected.

What we see with the WiiU is similar to what happened to Titanfall on Xbox One, they marketed the game so tightly with the console that most people who actually wanted the game already have the console.

Sony needs to do something in Japan to help PS4, complete failure right now.

right within my expectations of 20k...though sad it didn't break it.

But with all hardware numbers doing terribad, no complaints here. Just try to sell above 15k weekly at least just to continue the momentum.

Keep confusing myself when I see the Nintendo games being so much cheaper than Sony et al ones. Really weird to me still.
