Splatoon will certainly become the best selling shooter of all time by Christmas.
This caught my eye, what is the current highest selling (first or third person) shooter of all time in Japan?

Where do those Mario/Luigi/Yoshi come from? Some new comic book?

The US$9.6 billion for Japan is a record and includes video games (hardware and software) on the one side as well as “online games” on the other.
The way Famitsu sizes up the market is different from many data providers in the West: the company defines “online games” as content delivered through smartphones, tablets, feature phones and the PC.
...
For this particular market (apps distributed through smart devices and social games on feature phones) alone, Famitsu calculates with US$5.8 billion (up a whopping 18% year-on-year).
Care to elaborate. I'm complete open to be proven wrong with time. The unpredictable and unknown can occur as Zsaber notes.
But there's nothing "troll tier" about seeing that scenario as a gradual exit from competing meaningfully in the segment. (An entirely appropriate response given the changed market and inability to compete in it.)
At this point may as well be frank and just say that "NX" is, for all intents and purposes, Nintendo's soft exit from serving as a platform holder in the home console space. They'll have some sort of Ouya/Vita TV style box that allows you to basically play what is foremost a handheld library on a television screen. That's what the entrails tell me at least.
You know what? Fuck it, I'm tired of being upset at mobile's takeover. It's here, and it's here to stay. If it's the only thing propping up an industry I love so much, then damn it I'll root for it.
Things change, I guess we should stop being babies and face reality.
*bows to mobile overlords*
The lines between portable and home console games in dedicated devices have been blured for some years now, even before the mobile explotion. It was just a matter of technology in portable devices to surpass certain tresh holds, both in terms of processing capabilities and inputs.I can see the argument that the lines have blurred between handheld and home console titles, particularly for Japan and particularly for Nintendo. That said, I don't mean "handheld games" as some sort of derogatory, but rather that it will be foremost a handheld library because despite multiple form factors of product, the portable system is where Nintendo still hold a strong competitive position (despite the contraction of the actual market) and that's where I think they will be focusing outside of their diversification efforts
It's surprising that game got to 1 million considering not much was done in Japan.

It's at 2 million WW now, and that's not really a surprise given the IP. Dragon Ball is one of the most popular Japanese series globally. Xenoverse was the first DB game in years that offered more than just a simulation of the show.

awesomeI'm proud to confirm that a number of GAF members have been able to successfully come together to fund the purchase of "The Media Create Whitebook 2015".
The Media Create whitebook is an annual publication released in Japan that describes the Japanese game industry for the year gone. It contains detailed hardware and software analysis, the top 1000 selling titles for 2014 and predictions for the future. The book also looks at different segments of the markets and draws conclusions from the available data.
Shortly we will be able to see data from this book being posted on GAF so please look forward to it.
For now, please thank GAF members: Hiska-Kun, Manjimaru, Road, Vena, E-Phonk, Saichi, BlowoverKing, Fisico, alcabcucu & Dee Dee for making this possible.

i' ve seen a lot of NX threads and talks recently, probably due to Nintendo's E3 performance i guess. The thing is, there's been 0 (ZERO) new insights, information or interesting speculation that hasn't been debated before. Basically it's all the same talk derivated of Iwata announcing an unified OS some years ago and what it obviously implicates.
Anyway, just wondering what is the point when the conversation always stears to the same place we have been before... it just seems more pointless than it already is.

They're also releasing products people actually want.Plus there's that thing Iwata talked about with ORAS and we've seen it with Jurassic World. The people who watched DBZ as kids are now adults with their own income.

That's why i said we are not bracking new ground here. Nintendo has been doing multiple form factors with their handhelds in the past. And we have been able to witness the reception each format has, specially in Japan since we get sales data weekly and detailed by SKU.Well, if that's focused on japan, shinra-bansho actually makes a good point about the form factor, since we only know about Iwata teasing about different hardware for different markets (he wasn't talking about china or stuff like that too) recently. We may get a new hint or two at the annual investors meeting soon too.
So by the end of 2018, we should have FFXV, FFVII R, KH3, TLG, and Shenmue 3 released.
So by the end of 2018, we should have FFXV, FFVII R, KH3, TLG, and Shenmue 3 released.. Console gaming would be saved in Japan then. It just needs to be in the shitter for 3 more years. ><

Couldnt Rhythm Heaven be one of those games that are heavily affected by the mobile craze? I know that the previous handheld version som over 1.8 million copies, so even 1 million copies would be a big drop from that, but still. It can't beat last year's for sure. IMO, the safe million sellers from that list will be:
Rhythm Heaven
Youkai Watch Busters
Animal Crossing HHD
Dragon Quest VIII
Monster Hunter X
Youkai Watch 3

Low debut for a Persona Dancing spinoff? We are talking about a series where the main games sell sure 300k.That would be a really low debut for a new Persona spin off. Where is the fan base at?
And wow at Fire Emblem.

But will it make it to a million? Hard to say, in my opinion, but we'll see =)Apparently, the game sold well above expectations during the first week. RH is the type of game that has legs over time.
Persona 4 Arena did about 126k in the first week (117k on PS3 and 9k on Xbox 360).Releasing two versions of the same game with different content works wonders for Pokemon and Yokai, not really surprised it would for FE as well.
The Persona Arena games did better? I honestly can't remember. Maybe fighting games have more appeal, not to mention they released PS3 which has a much larger user base. Also, would love a rerelease of Ultimax on PS4.
