That's some pretty sensible predictions.

One thing that got me thinking is DQ8 however...

DQ7 remake launch:

01./00. [3DS] Dragon Quest VII: Fighters of Eden <RPG> (Square Enix) {2013.02.07} (¥6.090) - 827.922 / NEW <83,29%>

567 890 would be quite the drop compared to the previous remake. Then again, I'm sort of expecting something like this (maybe not a drop as big as this one, though).

By the way, Metallic Red N3DS XL launching on the same day as DQ8, so 3DS sales should get a noticeable bump on that week.

DQ7R was a complete remake. Meanwhile DQ8 looks worse than the PS2 original, was ported to mobile months ago and is only one of many DQ products to launch in the near future.

It just doesnt feel as special as the 7 Remake, so lower sales wouldnt surprise.

By the way, I hope MC will provide sales data for the amiibo cards, at least for the first few days (they did it with the amiibo, in December). Please, do not make us wait until the Media Create 2016 White Book before getting anything at all...

It probably hasn't sold more outside of Japan.
Shipments and digital probably add up to 300k.

Well, the game only sold 4250 last year apparently so I think the Japanese LTD is pretty much done at 262150. Even best case scenarios for digital don't seem like they'd be enough to make that up.

The new BEST version should add some more to Japan's side though.

Nothing to update. He's either pulling everyone's leg, or has a reason to think what he is thinking, but he's not a very "direct" person, let's say. He loves to tease and twist the truth with riddles and stuff, so its impossible to say if he's being sincere or just pulling people's leg.

Nintendo has a market meeting coming up in a few days, off schedule, and he linked that to DQ. Its not impossible but the market meeting is more likely for stuff like MHX, SMM, and continued Splatoon marketing. The only oddity is that they changed the date from their usual Thu/Fri dealings, and it happens to coincide with near the DQ reveal date.

A few years ago I predicted that XY would outsell Ruby/Sapphire and maybe even Diamond/Pearl. It's looking like it won't pass Black/White.


Just acknowledging that I'm eating crow on that one. That is all.

Persona 4 Golden interestingly enough.(it is a bit ambiguous as we don't have digital Japanese sales, but it had passed 700K globally in December 2013, and Japanese physical sales as of December 2014 would be less than half even assuming it hadn't continued to sell). Not sure on the PS2 games.

every Fire Emblem game that was released outside Japan, Souls games

actually, the question should be asked the other way around: how many JRPGs that sell 1 million+ have the majority of its sales in Japan?

Don't remember. Maybe it was the visual shakeup and feeling of "new".
At the time I think pre orders just started.

I just thought it'd be more present in WW charts week in and week out. 3DSs performance in the west deteriorated a bit as well.

keep in mind ORAS also didn't exist yet...

Black & White already had 3d areas. X&Y basically just replaced the character sprites (and some remaining 2d background objects) with 3d models. I thought a 3d Pokemon game could be very big, but I was expecting a complete visual overall, rather than just another tweak to the old style. When we actually got images of the game, I expected a result like this...

Well, if the leaker for the title (that must not be named!) is correct, looks like the secret blog was correct with this being on the 3DS, but also its on the PS4.

Weird shit if this proves true.

3DS for Japan's sake. PS4 for US & EU's sake. Either way, it's going to be fun on here in the morning.

The 3DS has a very large RPG base the world over, so it doesn't really matter worldwide between PS4/3DS. If they localize DQ7/8 as well, it will probably actually lean on the 3DS.

I just meant battles and animations, cause the 3D overworld definitely wasn't very impressive. Should've been more specific.

Persona 4 Golden possibly sold/shipped more in the West than in Japan. In October of 2013 it shipped 300k in Japan only and then in December of 2013 it was revealed that P4G had shipped 700k worldwide.

Then in April of 2014 they announced that P4G shipped 350k in Japan only. I wonder if/when Persona 4 Golden will hit 1 million shipped. You'd think it would be close by now.
