Would that be assuming that there are no Yakuza fans who are also Berserk fans? This is one of my pet peeves, where people think of fanbases are specific static groups with no significant overlap. Berserk Musou is a game that is clearly targeted towards people who: a) want to play a Musou game, b) want to play a Berserk game, c) want a game that has both. We can't say that Musou doesn't have a fanbase on consoles, they clearly do. The fact that a much, much more popular franchise like Attack on Titan failed to take off in Japan as a Musou game, indicates to me that there is a more fundamental problem with the Musou franchise than the Berserk one.
Hardcore Berserk fans are definitely a niche and cannot be counted on, but there is enough awareness of the brand for it to have value if it delivers the experience general audiences of a certain demographic expect from it. Case in point: Dark Souls doing well for itself even though it is a series on consoles targeting a adult audience. The Dark Fantasy audience definitely exists, they're just clearly not impressed by this effort.
Why does everything need to get at Musou edition. Gameplay is shallow and Japan has stopped caring for all these collaborations. Mainline entries have almost disappeared likely because of the fear of another dive at sales.
Koei-Tecmo still has pretty strong artists and its popular request with games that have a very ship heavy fanbase, IIRC Touken Ranbu, Fate Stay Night, and Fire Emblem were the top three desired Musou crossovers in a poll, and those fandoms are all driven by shipdom. Musous works best when they work with games that don't have one dominant hero (that's berserk's issue and I thought Zelda did well despite of that) and the source cast is huge (which all three of those games have).
KT is just picking the wrong xover IPs.
Edit. It was Fate instead of Kancolle

Not related to PS4 version, but on that topic, whats the point of hiding the Switch release? Considering the launch dates, i think it will come for Switch, but i dont see why they would need to hide it. Switch was already announced when the Direct was aired. Then why reveal XX though Nintendo Direct? And what's the point of hiding the PS4 version?

The same reason that Nintendo doesn't want any publisher to confirm anything before January 12th. It's a bit dumb.

Some of the recent collaborations sucked though, for different reasons. Attack on Titan sold well, but it would have sold more if they waited for the second season of the anime.
People actually want Fire Emblem Musou, and Nintendo can add their own spin to the game to make it special.
Hyrule Warriors 2 can do some damage in the west too, something that every other Musou collab failed to achieve.
Oh wow, I guess the future of Musou depends entirely on Nintendo! Koei better pray for Switch's success.

Japan more interested in consoles again than handhelds - good sign tbh

Just wait until Nintendo Switch comes.
I know it's kinda strange considering the nature of the thing and the fact that 70% of the video showed an exterior usage of it, but Nintendo is serious about calling the Switch its "next home gaming system." I wonder if the message from Nintendo Japan is the same though.

FFXV way behind, too far behind even FFXIII-2.
Just wait until Nintendo Switch comes.
Is it safe to say that, now that Wii U is in its second week of sub-2000 sales, the sharp drop-off can be primarily attributed to the Switch teaser causing Japanese gamers to just not bother and wait for March?

That just one game comes out every month with Splatoon hype dying has more to do with low sales of Wii U than Switch.
Musou has been around for the longest time. It's a whole genre. It's not going to die.Lol, you really think it would sell better if they didn't make it at all and waited until late 2017 instead? Musou might be completely worthless by then.

I think that Nintendo of Japan will market the Switch much more differently from the West, as they'll most likely market the Switch as a gaming handheld in which you can also play the same games on the TV at home.
It made more sense for Nintendo of America & Nintendo of UK/Europe to market the platform as a home gaming console first because home gaming consoles are much more popular here & in UK/Europe than gaming handhelds are.
Capcom said:Q. What is Capcom's stance with regards to developing for the Nintendo Switch?
A. It is excellent to have the market invigorated with new hardware launches. As a software publisher, we endeavor to develop games that offer enjoyment best suited to each piece of hardware's features and target users. Following first party, in order to introduce our own content we are currently moving forward with internal planning and analysis as a partner company.
Q. Is it possible to develop multiplatform titles on the Nintendo Switch?
A. We are currently carrying out research with regards to multiplatform implementation of software for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on to the Nintendo Switch and thus are unable to comment at this moment. However, we do feel that there are differences in the desired direction and the play-style of the Nintendo Switch and those of the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. At Capcom, we determine which platform to release a title for after considering the features of both our software and the hardware in question, believing we must bring the enjoyment of our games to their maximum potential.
Well, lately FFXV is doing a lot better. Not only on Rakuten, that is something I follow. Stores are really showing more about it, with cross collabs with other brands and stuff like that. I do think the game will flop (not joking here), but it's amazing how now Square started to push adverts. I suppose after Sun and Moon release, they will have more space to expand their promotional advertisements.
Holy crap, megaton bomba incoming?
In what is assuredly the biggest collaboration in mobile since Nintendo x DeNA, Square Enix has managed to convince Machine Zone (makers of Game of War and Mobile Strike, which are the #5 and #3 highest grossing mobile games in the world respectively) to make a new game based on Final Fantasy XV. Machine Zone was making $1.1 billion in revenue annually off of Game of War, and now has two hits of that caliber.
Presumably the benefit for Machine Zone here is that they want to try and break into Japan, while Square Enix wants more success overseas.
Mobile Strike does pretty okay in Japan, but it's usually in the #10-#15 grossing range. We've seen CyGames turn a Hearthstone clone into a top 10 monthly hit by slathering the game design in anime art, so it's not out of the question that the Final Fantasy brand could be a huge boon for MachineZone in Japan.
In news related to the current topic, Koei Tecmo's Final Fantasy mobile game (the Dissidia one) was delayed into 2017 so they could fix a bunch of bugs and ensure a smooth launch.

Absolutely nothing dumb about it. They want to control the message and unleash all announcements at one spot/event for the biggest possible impact. They know they cant afford another WiiU situation.

I'm not sure what they mean exactly in the first quote. That they're excited but are waiting to see the first party support before actually doing anything there?
I disagree a bit. Obviously they need to control the message, which they've done well so far, but they're going too far in preventing third parties from confirming or not some of their plans. WiiU was a disaster obviously, but the Bethesda statement was just as bad for example...
RIP
I'm not sure what they mean exactly in the first quote. That they're excited but are waiting to see the first party support before actually doing anything there?
Monster Hunter XX is March 18th. But no, Capcom said no port. This is just another coincidence. they're jumping to PS4.
That's actually pretty big for both parties and illustrates how badly SE wants FFXV to take off (maybe it'll do so in mobile, considering the pedigree!) Wonder if the terms of agreement mean that Game of War/Mobile Strike get some SE promotion, or if this new game is co-published - #10-#15 in Japan for its existing titles still makes lots of money.
Drawing a blank on the Colopl Hearthstone clone though. Are you referring to Shadowverse (cygames)?
I'm curious about that part too.I'm not sure what they mean exactly in the first quote. That they're excited but are waiting to see the first party support before actually doing anything there?

And rightly so. Why release your game on the platform with 0 sales when there's one out there with 40+ million?
