Platinums game has to be MGR2.

Cannot believe a new Diaster Report is coming and a PS4 game as well! Looks like Home made them some money.

Have no idea what SEGA is doing but lets hope its a jrpg.

This is probably the case, but in your opinon could something like this be the successor?

I cannot see a way of creating a monetized ecosystem alongside Google's Play. How would you do it?

There was a time when Shu made a statement that made me think they were considering this, but someone made the monetization argument in response and I thought it was no longer plausible.

These days, I think his statement was ultimately referring to what we see with PlayStation Now.

Meanwhile in Japan YW the Movie set a new record : 1,6 billion yen earned in just 2 days, pushing back Howl's Moving Castle (I don't know the correct title in english sorry) which sold "just" 1,48 billion yen

are you talking about having a playstation store on android? or an android-based handheld? i think both would work from a monetary standpoint. look at amazon, they have their own android store that you can get on any android device, and their own android devices that are walled in (sort of).

i think the vita would be far more successful if they were android based. apps and games from smart phones would be easily ported with little effort from devs

too bad. Steaming touched based smartphone games sounds dreadful and expensive.

A playstation store on android + a required addon controller/peripheral so game devs could count on all players having a standard controller. I don't think Sony has the chutzpah of Amazon, but yeah if they could create an Amazon store but with fully caffeinated versions of MH, Persona, etc., that would be interesting.

Thats......not that much. Maybe my relatives are already big but the Naruto The Last movie did 1.47 billion in one day so I expected more since I thought YW is a far bigger franchise in Japan right now.

I hope you guys realize that he's the head of AM2, and they've been in charge of the Miku for years now.

Nah its definitely VF6.

No idea where you saw that, but The Last Naruto Movie first two days (weekend) total was 515 million yen.

Yokai Watch has the opening record for animations and Toho films, 1.65 billion yen, but not for all types of movies -- Matrix Reloaded has the biggest opening 2.2 billion yen.

The highest Pokemon debut was the 2007 film, 781 million yen.

So this was mentioned in the Dengeki Playstation thread but:

Famitsu via Gematsu said:
Tsuji Bonbon (Capcom) - The 11th year of the Monster Hunter series will be a new start.

So does that mean Monster Hunter 5 next year?

Oregano

Member
There's been a MH every year hasn't there so I guess so.

There was a three year gap between Dos and Tri and a four year gap between Tri and 4. Two years would be a very short gap and would also means MH4 skips home console altogether. That seems a bit soon to me.

Monster Hunter 5 won't come out next year. Monster Hunter Portable 4th or something, yeah, but I doubt they're going to jump to 5 not even 2 years after 4.

Monster Hunter has pretty much been an annual series:

2004: Monster Hunter (PS2)
2005: Monster Hunter G (PS2), Monster Hunter Portable (PSP)
2006: Monster Hunter Dos (PS2)
2007: Monster Hunter Portable 2 (PSP)
2008: Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (PSP)
2009: Monster Hunter Tri (Wii)
2010: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd (PSP)
2011: Monster Hunter Tri G (3DS)
2012: ______________________ (yes, I know MH3G HD came out, but I dunno if I consider that extremely notable)
2013: Monster Hunter 4 (3DS)
2014: Monster Hunter 4G (3DS)

So does that mean Monster Hunter 5 next year?
priming the audience up for a mobile future with the launch of monster hunter explore

That doesn't sound like "a new start" though and besides, which platform would that be on? It's redundant on 3DS, would it be a Vita game?

BoF6 has been MIA for a while. I wonder if it'll re-emerge as something that doesn't look like a random Korean mobile RPG they licensed on the cheap.

Tsuji Bonbon? :lol

That's a nickname, his name is actually Ryozo Tsujimoto and he is the producer of pretty much every main Monster Hunter game.

Monster Hunter 4 Portable
- Hardly a new start, and I doubt Capcom would release a Monster Hunter "portable" exclusive for Vita

Monster Hunter 4 HD
- Also not a new start, but I expect the Monster Hunter series to appear on PS4 at some point

Monster Hunter 5
- Most likely for PS3/4/V (this family combo is really hurting Nintendo, by the way)

Nirolak

Mrgrgr
Clearly Capcom is going to combine Monster Hunter with Pokemon/Yokai/SMT like mechanics and have you capture and fight alongside your monsters.

There will also be a mobile version of it that plays like marbles.

Would that combo be enough to add up to MonHun 4 numbers for what would obviously be a more expensive to produce game? I guess they have to go HD at some point though.

When I saw a new start I thought maybe they meant in the vein of Pokémon Black and White or even what Tri was. 4(/U) has a lot of returning Monsters right?

EDIT:
It will be an Ace Attorney game that stars the monsters.

To be more serious, while there could be a notable change for the series, the context is the end of year hype interviews.

I probably wouldn't guess at a major shift for the series based on that quote alone. He could even just mean that they have a ton of games releasing for both new and traditional markets between Monster Hunter Explore, Monster Hunter Online, Monster Hunter Browser, the next regular Monster Hunter game, and possibly even more.

That Pikachu detective game is slated for a 2015 release right? I wonder what kind of game that'll be. We don't know much of anything about it but we should see more of that in the upcoming months. In a Direct maybe. I wonder if it'll get localised and how well a game centralised around Pikachu (with voice acting?) could do lol.

Also wonder how many New 3DS only titles we'll get and how well they'll do. If they do well I could see Nintendo pushing that a bit and milking it before we get the successor.

the new start is probably referred to the console. it was dengeki playstation, so...MHHD for ps4 to aim the western market

Yeah the Dengeki interviews were for PlayStation's 20th Anniversary whereas I think these are the annual Famitsu interview.

I mean it's not implausible that they make a Monster Hunter for a platform that isn't the 3DS, they certainly have and are even actively doing so on mobile and PC, but I'm just not making the inherent assumption based on this quote.

That said, Monster Hunter on PS4 would fit the trend of Sony platforms getting Japanese games inversely proportional to their hardware sales. :p

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if it's a PS4 game. I would bet they would want assets that could scale to a next gen handheld though. Resi 5 assets scaled down to Mercenaries 3D so it could still be a sizable gap.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Honestly, I don't get why, all of a sudden, people start believing that the main series will abandon Nintendo consoles, 3DS in this case. What's the reason, considering how well the latest two entries sold?

But I don't even think a different MH series for PS4 cannot happen, either. Maybe, they'll start by porting Monster Hunter Frontier? It seems logical to me: the game is already on both PS3 and Vita (...and Wii U), it would fit well.

People were saying the exact same thing after the PSP games to be fair.
