So what does it mean when the only software on the top ten chart for the PSP is a non-game?

PARADIGM SHIFT.

I hope not but it'll probably end up being one of the few PSP titles to end up breaking one million in sales for Japan.

Given the sales of Brain Training, if someone released an encyclopedia for DS at the same price, it would probably sell bucketloads. :)

Pokémon Tourouze is ok for a puzzle game. On the one hand, I hope, Brain Training PSP won't have any legs, due to the lovely DS, on the other hand, I hope, that it's going to be one of the best selling PSP games, so I can see what Drinky has to say ^^. I can't get both ;(.

Is Pokemon Touroze in any way similar to Zoo Keeper? I love Zoo keeper, but didnt get it for DS as I found it overpriced and had played the hell of the Flash version. POke Touroze seems like an advanced version of Zoo Keeper, with more modes, etc. Is it the case?

What I've read sounds like Tetris Attack+Zoo Keeper in play style, but I'm not 100% sure.

I thought the PSP brain training game was being sold at full PSP price, while the DS brain training games are budget-priced. That's a big difference right there.

John Harker

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
No Feel The Magic 2 up there?

So it probably sold 16-18k?
How did the first one start off?

And Peach didn't really live up to expectations... dammit, I want game-games (i.e. the opposite of non-games) to perform better...

Is that start on par with titles like Kirby and Yoshi?

Mama Smurf

My penis is still intact.
Kirby: 75,000
Yoshi: 63,733

So no. It's not like Peach has the brand recognition of those two, particularly not as the star of a game, but to barely get half isn't very impressive. Maybe they're all humping their Pokemon carts.

According to Gpara PSP brain training costs 2,800 Yen, so it is only a little bit more expensive than the DS brain trainings.

Ah, so it's budget-priced after all? A wise decision indeed...maybe I was thinking about Talkman.

Do you think if it was called Super Mario Bros: Peach's Adventure or something along those lines, it would have sold better?

The power of branding....

Hardware :

DS = 44000 (last week = 44262)
PSP = 28000 (last week = 29162)
GBM = 15000

So much for non-games moving PSPs.

The DS had a couple high-profile releases, and it didn't increase. Well, at least it stayed steady.
What was released last week by comparison again?

Anyway, the micro sure did drop fast. Price drop for the holidays world wide?

I doubt it, 15,000 for a product they are making serious profit off of in an area where they have no real competition is probably fine.

Yea, I mean I can't seem them being too dissapointed in it. The profit margin there is
pretty insane. It's a nice kick-back for them, I'm sure. It isn't like they need to move hardware to increase game sales, either - but it makes one wonder if this was an attempt
to just improve the tech "image" of Nintendo.

I mean, send out a sleek new handled, release a sleek new console...
It is probably more for a branding PR campaign than them honestly expecting a huge seller here. Hence also the higher price - it's more fashionable, and increases the product buzz and appeal to middle-upper class mainstream who need to feel latest-greatest and important.

Wha..?

Are these numbers real? I thought the PSP numbers would be a little closer this week, due to the Sega Brain game. When I saw that it had sold 44,000 copies, I figured the PSP would have received a bump in the charts as well. I was wrong.

Anyone have PS2 hardware sales also?

Damn PSP drop even with Brain Training. :(

And those micro numbers are insane for an expensive redesign of a now almost useless system.

How is GBA a useless system? it still gets the occasional release, and it's got a huge library. Heck, I almost want one myself, despite not having any GBA games I really want to play. If I were even a little bit into it, I'd snap one up quick.

Small is good in a portable.

The numbers we get in advance are always rounded to the thousands. You should get more precise numbers in a few hours.

I doubt anyone would buy a PSP specifically for Brain Training. Not with the (superior) DS version out and the cheaper DS hardware. The only xception I could think of is someone buying a PSP for Brain Training because they see another game on PSP they really want.

Yeah, you're right as always. One day I'll make a brilliant comment on GAF, but today is not the day.
