If I got a dollar bonus for every time I have to tell an engineer "it depends" throughout the day, I'd be able to retire by end of year.

I've been talking with architects for a new building. These smooth brains want a casino to look like an Apple store. If I had a dollar for every idea I've rejected (light strips, glass walls, rivers in hallways, floating chairs, in-door trees, etc.), I could fund this project on my own.

It's not that these guys are dumb or anything, they just ask questions without providing the pertinent info I need. The details matter to what answer I provide.

hey what if we want to make a material change? Ok…are we trying like for like with a new supplier or are we going to a totally different formulation or…? Don't give me some fifth grade level summary and expect me to respond off the cuff on something that could have a half million dollar impact on whatever testing you'll need to do

That has happened to me a lot in my job over the years. Always suspicious of questions asked without the proper context.

That's kinda the vibe sometimes too. I haven't really run into this at my current post but previously it's almost like they're trying to pull one over on someone whom they're supposed to go to as the SME…if that's the case why even ask the question? Just go slay queen, and fuck everything up.

Today I told a guy unless he could provide full documentation of every change he wants to make in a memo in our doc control system I'm not going to keep entertaining it anymore. It's not that I don't trust him in terms of his honesty here but he's changing his mind day to day and it's like dude I can't keep giving you feedback on every scenario and trust you to keep it straight. Give me a formal proposal and I'll give your formal feedback because this is nonsense, and don't you dare say "well he told me this…" when shit hits the fan because we've talked through half a dozen scenarios. I even brought it up to my VP and he was like "yeah, you gotta nail that guy down or he'll be telling you a different story next week…"

I had a boss like that, "Think it, instantly instruct it" and then forget he even asked for the change becuse he was so reactionary. Didn't help that he was surrounded by a bunch of yes men. I learned quickly to say yes but not do it unless he asked for that change twice. That cut out a good 90% of wasted time and product feature creep.

maybe this isn't the right place for this but does anyone else feel like that despite it being nearly a full year since the sticky post on Gaming that we still have a massive fanboy/troll problem here on GAF? it's like why even go into any threads about PlayStation or Xbox because you know what the usual suspects are going to be saying and arguing about in there

Look outside at people IRL
It's a world problem with vocal minority's and shall pass with time like all fads
Have patience and focus on being the example you want to show, you can only control yourself and no one else

I believe in you

So, this HR thing is going to disappear. And the guy who decided to whine to HR instead of talking to me, well he is probably not going to be viewed very favorably as my boss went and had a discussion with his boss too. I expect he might be gone by end of year or at least within 12 months. He definitely overplayed his hand.

My boss is seriously the best fucking dude. He's got my loyalty for the remainder of time.

Bosses that have your back are the best. It's been a while since I had a shitty one, but it's not a great feeling. But right now, while never trying to be a prick or anything, I'm feeling pretty secure about shit because I know mine has my back and he's the VP so… 🤷‍♀️

Wait til he gets arrested on federal fraud charges.

You guys hiring?

Same here. The above actually happened to me
I'm fortunate that I haven't had to push back much on things that would possibly compromise patient safety, or be problematic ethically/legally/morally, but the few times I have he's 100% had my back (and to clarify that's pushing back on others not him). He's also never pulled any fast ones on me or anyone else I know working with him.

But he cooks meth in the back room sometimes I think for mostly curiosity's sake. He throws it in the trash afterward, I think.

Best boss I had would buy me expensive escorts, certainty helps keep you loyal and hard-working. He'd also pay for escorts for clients as well as it kept them coming back and doing business with him rather effectively.

My most entertaining mornings are when a board member asks me to cover interesting charges late last night. "Yes sir" and no questions asked.

I'm feeling very entertained listening to songs like The Pot and Rosetta Stoned on some stupidly expensive headphones as an edible seems to be kicking in…

Join us, brother

and everyone wishes you hadn't
Ahh okay, now I understand.

How come this thread gets even weirder each time I visit it?

I thought it was an understood rule that when someone arrives in the office early, they want to chill for a bit and to not talk to them until salary time.
