Metro Redux - Announcement Trailer

"Experience radically improved gameplay: advanced enemy AI, improved combat and stealth mechanics"

I hope they go back and take a hard and honest look on how it was before. Because some parts of Metro 2033 really needs an upgrade.

I played Metro: LL on PC for a couple of hours but never finished the game. It was a graphically demanding game and badly optimized. Had to dumb down the graphics (no PhysX, Tessellation, lower details etc) and the game still had framerate drops. If the console versions don't look like shit because the engine still isn't optimized, I'll definitely grab the PS4 version.

metro LL is extremely good performing for its looks IMO... what are your system specs?

The trailer mentions the book the games are based on and it seems to have pretty good reviews. Have any of you read it, would you recommend reading it before or after playing the games?

I want to use my new thread posting ability wisely and didn't think this warrants it's own thread...

The first book is worth the read, but spoils the first game, the second book is much worse and goes in a diferent direction than the games.

For the Steam version, hopefully they do what Square Enix did with Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut and offer tiered discounts for owning the games.

I asked Professor Pew about this. His reply:

12:21 PM - Professor Pew: Yes we will! On Steam, if you own Metro 2033 you get 50% off Metro 2033 Redux, and 25% off the Metro Redux bundle. If you own Metro: Last Light, you get 50% off Metro: Last Light Redux and 25% off the Metro Redux bundle.
12:22 PM - Professor Pew: So if you got Metro 2033 for free through THQ's "free Metro 2033" Facebook giveaway at the end of 2012, but never played it, you can get the Metro 2033 Redux version for half price (half of $24.99 or local price on Steam).
12:23 PM - Professor Pew: Or if you just bought either game during Steam sales and never played it, which sometimes happens with games bought during Steam sales :D

Literally wanted to buy Metro 2033 just now, since I recently have a Xbox 360. Last Light has been on my PS3 wishlist for quite some months now, too. Guess I'll just wait till I start my next gen, which won't be any time before summer 2015. Most likely December 2015 / January 2016.

For Steam owners of Metro 2033 and/or Metro: Last Light:

On Steam, if you own Metro 2033 you get 50% off Metro 2033 Redux, and 25% off the Metro Redux bundle. If you own Metro: Last Light, you get 50% off Metro: Last Light Redux and 25% off the Metro Redux bundle.

So if you got Metro 2033 for free through one of the giveaways in the last years, or on sale during a Steam sale, but never played it: you can get the Metro 2033 Redux version for half price. That means you pay $12.49 for Metro 2033 Redux.

If you only want the Redux version of one game, you can pick and choose.

Edit: or what NX just said :)

Edit 2: To clarify: Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux will have their own Store Page on Steam. Those should be up later today/this evening. Metro Redux on Steam is a bundle that gives you both games, so you will have both in your Library separately.

On the Xbox Marketplace and the PS Store, you can also buy both games for half the cost of the retail Metro Redux version day one.

Cool, thanks. Didn't even know there were books, but I was only able to play a few minutes of 2033 on my pc before it would crash, and I forgot/gave up.

I'm really happy the PC is getting these too. I just wish GSC was around to do the same for the STALKER games, but at least we have all kinds of mods and fixes.

2033 completely redone with their newest engine, Last Light enhanced with the season pass DLC, both running at 1080p60fps, and for only $50? Looks like I have my first FPS for the PS4.

Still using a Samsung Series 7 Laptop (http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/laptops/373027/samsung-series-7-gamer/specifications). Laptop, I know I know. You can get better performance by buying a desktop PC for less money but I like to carry the laptop downstairs and play some games with my brother without moving a complete PC.

Games like BF4 still look pretty decent on my laptop whereas Metro: LL looked and felt really bad. Always had the feeling that my laptop should be able to do better because other games felt and performed much better. But AFAIK the whoe Metro series has a reputation for being badly optimized.

Awesome.

But what's the draw? Why do I want to buy LL Redux? Mainly because the info in the OP is confusing to me for some reason.

"Metro: Last Light Redux has also received a graphical facelift and gameplay improvements that carry across both titles, including new melee animations, and the fan-requested ‘Check Watch’ and ‘Check Inventory’ features. It also includes all previously released Season Pass add-on content – a further 10 hours of single-player gameplay."

I think it's great that we'll be getting this on current gen at 60fps. Most people know just how demanding the game was on PC and very few people got to enjoy it with that level of fluidity and response time. Even better is the pricing ($25 for each game is AWESOME). I'm just really curious to know how much they had to sacrifice on the graphics fidelity in order to achieve the 60Hz. Looking at the PC benchmarks, it really doesn't seem feasible to get a full 1080p/60fps on PS4 even at medium settings. Case in point:

So even at medium, a 7850 card is not even at 50 fps. Sure the PS4 is closer to a 7870 (actually a r7 265) but this data seems to suggest that to get 1080p/60 on console, they would have to dial down the settings to sub medium. When considering that even the XB1 runs at 60fps, they would either not have visual parity between the 2 or the settings would have to be reduced even further for a 7790 (ish) card. As you can see, that card is far from 60fps.

It'll be great if they were able to optimize their engine and tap into the console specific optimizations to achieve 1080p/60fps with something close to the "High" settings on PC. That would be awesome. Just not sure how they could have achieved that in just a year. Seems more likely we'll be looking at something around "medium" at least on PS4. Insights?

Huh, I was planning on playing through 2033 and buying/playing Last Light soon but I guess I'll just wait for this instead.

Only the first game has that reputation because of 1 setting (the ridicukousadvanced depth of field effect), and the fact that all effects in the game scale 1:1 with your output res (meaning, atmospheric effects are not upscaled like they are in most games).

The second game is actually hailed for running quite well on a range of hardware.

IMO, could have been your laptop (that GPU is really quite weak) along with a driver you were using.

Game should run just fine, pretty much no one has performance problems with it if they adjust their settings realisitically with their rig spec.

We shall see when it comes out. but IMO, that graph right there you have is using quite an old driver revision and v1.002 of the game. Nvidia and AMD have both improved their performance in the game quite greatly over time.

Definitely down for the retail version for PS4. 4A rocks!

If you guys played LL but not the library DLC level you are in for a treat my friends. It's my favorite part across all the games; an entire game could be based around the concept: going out into the harsh outside environment, collecting artifacts and opening shortcuts to later parts of the level, then going back to base to sell the artifacts and buy more oxygen filters and gear. It was awesome.

Yeah I saved that level for last when working through the season pass content. Really a phenomenal experience. I liked the proper levels they added in the dlc quite a bit too.

AGREED x10000 - Best part of the DLC by far. I've replayed that a few times I liked it so much.

It proved to me just how insanely awesome an open world Metro could be.

Also, the way the shortcuts linked the map together was genius.

The PS4 has a full 7870 on it's custom APU die. Which according to that chart is at 58fps. 60fps shouldn't be an issue at medium.

Day one on Steam especially since there is that nice discount for people that already have Metro in library :)
I love this series.Really atmospheric with great music, nice story and outstanding graphics.
I wonder how much different Metro 2033 Redux will look and play from its original version.

I read Metro 2033 (in English translation; at that time 2034 had not been translated yet) and enjoyed the story, which made me want to try the game. As a PS3/4 owner, i'm happy to finally see it coming to my platform.

Never got around to replay 2033 on PC for the other ending, I have the PSN+ version of LL, but I'll support them with my money and get this on PS4.

Since I already beat both games on the PC i'll have to wait and see if the updates are worth it. If not I can just wait for the digital edition to go on sale on Christmas.

I'm gonna double dip. Liked both games a lot and got them dirt cheap on Stream. Interested in the improvements and with the discount pricing angle it's a no-brainer.

Agreed and fair point. This following link shows much more recent benchmarks taken on Metro: LL @ 1080p and "High" settings. The r7 265 is @ 40fps and the 7870 is @ 43fps. Still seems like quite a stretch for PS4 and near impossible for XB1. But again, I'm guessing somewhere around medium could be feasible.
