Metro Redux - Announcement Trailer

Spotty AI, At times mediocre level design, A unnecessarily drawn out concluding level etc..left me with a mixed feeling about this game. Still I enjoyed it as a free plus game and will try this out sometime down the line. Nowhere close to being one of the best shooters of last gen in my opinion.

Metro Redux - Official Announcement Gameplay Trailer [UK]

The Redux versions of Metro: 2033 and Metro: Last Light offer a lighter, crisper version of the game with "far fewer compromises" on consoles than the game's high-end PC version, developer 4A Studios has said. Speaking to Eurogamer, publisher Deep Silver's global brand manager Huw Beynon explained that the two re-makes had been developed over a year by the original Metro game team and were planned to be a "true director's cut".

As previously announced, both console versions will run at 60fps, with PlayStation 4 at 1080p and Xbox One at 900p.

"We're really pleased with the performance from the two consoles," Beynon explained. "We thought it would be 30fps as it's a very CPU-heavy game so we're quite pleased to get the [dev kits] in the studio and get it to 60fps." And it's possible that the Xbox One version could still improve, he added. "At the moment we're at 900p - that might change. I say might, I don't know at the moment, we've still a got a few months to go." Redux still has a vague "summer" launch date.

PS4 and Xbox One versions will use the PC build's high-end textures - an upgrade from the PS3 and Xbox 360 originals. Outside areas have also been re-lit with a new lighting system, leaving environments brighter and filled with more details on screen. Levels have been merged together to create larger environments with no breaks in tension or gameplay, and there's also the choice of playing both in Metro: Last Light-style "Spartan" mode, or Metro 2033-style "Survival" mode with smarter AI, plus slower reload and weapon swap times.

The Redux versions have served another purpose for 4A, too - it has meant that while part of the developer's 80-strong team starts pre-production on "other projects", other staff with later-game roles are kept busy, and allowed the developer to dip its toes into PlayStation 4 and Xbox One development for the first time.

Jesus, there are some incredibly entitled PC gamers in this thread. I don't get how you'd just expect a new version of a game for free - this is clearly beyond the usual patch-style updates.

Anyway, this looks fantastic, and I'm really looking forward to getting to play 2033 for the first time!

Played through Metro 2033 which was great (PC).

Still have Last Light sitting on my backlog. Great deal though!

How does Last Light compare to 2033 for those that have played both?

I think Last Light is a better game in just about every way when compared to 2033, though some will say otherwise. LL is definitely not as intense or scary as 2033. The biggest difference in LL is gameplay, it's just a far superior playing game. Gunplay feels better, faster, enemies react better when being hit. There is also some pretty easy, but still enjoyable, stealth stuff in LL. I think that if you enjoyed 2033 you will really like Last Light.

I'm REALLY looking forward to this one. It's one of the few "remaster" type games done right...

Metro 2033 brought to the new engine
Seems like they've done a whole new pass on lighting (Truth be told, the books give me more of a winter/desert vibe moreso than, well, too dark to see)
1080p/60 on PS4 (gives me hope for the future... I figured it'd be 1080/30)
25$/each
Half price for people who own the originals on steam - Brownie points.

Sadly, my gaming rig days are over though.. so I'm really looking forward to this on PS4. Probably a day one buy.

Damn this looks awesome. I never played either so gettin two games remastered for $50 is a pretty sweet deal. I'm playing Wolfenstein right now and it's made me hungry for more good single-player FPS's

I played 2033 Redux for a few minutes at E3. A few things I noticed:

1. The entire Last Light UI and control scheme has been ported over to 2033.
2. Some gameplay scenarios have changed. For example outside the entrance to the library is a large open space in which nothing happened in the original version. Now you will be attacked by a herd of Watchmen and will have to hold out until Miller and Danila arrive. It's stressful.
3. Happily, a PR rep informed me that the Librarian AI has not been changed in 2033 so no more overly aggressive Librarians from the Last Light DLC.

One more thing: Deep Silver confirmed that Glukhovsky's next novel, Metro 2035 (based on Metro Last Light), should see release before the end of this year.

Though I am anxious to play, hearing that they changed the original gameplay is kind of a turn off? I guess it explains with "Redux" but I feel this might change the feel of the game?
