Metroid Prime 2 And 3 Reportedly Also Coming To Nintendo Switch

On one of his Game Mess Mornings show, Grubb had stated that all Metroid Prime games were coming to the Switch, but that they would do so separately, unlike the Metroid Prime: Trilogy collection for the Wii. He'd also affirmed that only the first game would be getting the higher-scale remaster treatment, while the rest would be simpler ports, likely only with controls adjustments. That was about eight months ago, but after the Metroid Prime Remastered reveal, Grubb reaffirmed his prior claim, as seen below.

He was undoubtedly correct about the first game, so it's likely he's right about the other two as well. Furthermore, him taking the time to reaffirm this means, at the least, that he's still confident about the information after all this time. The question is, when will these titles release?

hmm. The first game is the only one I've ever played, so it could be cool to finally play the whole trilogy. However, it would be disappointing if they're not getting the same updates. Are the sequels as good as the original Metroid Prime?
They are about the same overall level, but probably a bit worse since the themes of the first game are perfect and they didn't really nail the gimmicks of the next.

You’re right. Nintendo always does the rational thing. And it certainly was plainly obvious that these other games would just get HD plus new controls. And of course Mario Galaxy 2 is sure to drop any day now, as Mario Galaxy 1 is one Switch.
If they are not going to get the same sort of visual clean up the first one did, what is the point?
Maybe it’s so we can play those games… on a Switch.

I would rather get a visual remake too, but a solid port is also very welcome. I’m guessing $20-25 per game.

More seriously, it was a huge mistake (for us) to NOT release all the trilogy as for Mass Effect Remastered.
Never going to spend 120€ for an old trilogy. Nope. Nope. Nope.

I imagine that we’ll probably see one game per Nintendo Direct. Spaces them out nicely, people will have finished one and move onto the other too. At the third games announcement they may wrap it up with the unveiling of MP4. That would be cool.

I wish Grubb was banned as a source, he just makes educated guesses of stuff that seems pretty obvious, of course Prime 2 and 3 are coming after how successful Prime Remastered has been, hell the long time rumor was that the Trilogy was all ready to go and was waiting for the perfect time, like Pikmin 3 and 4 were

Of course, they are. This is the Nintendo way to drip feed their fans with releases like this at a higher price to make the most money out of the re-releases.

Now I am not saying that Metroid Prime isn't a great game; it is a bona fide classic and the remaster/remake is superb but it is rather pricey at £34.99 here in the UK. I instantly bought this on the assumption it was the full trilogy, only to realise that it was the first game only (and, yes, I should have paid more attention but the £34.99 price made it looks like there was more than one game included for me). This is a franchise that really should have been remastered and released as a full trilogy given their age. The trilogy should have been £49.99 with individual releases at, say, £19.99. When you look at the cost of other trilogy remakes on consoles such as Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy then it is hard to argue that Metroid Prime, as a standalone game, isn't overpriced regardless of its quality.

I guess it’d make more sense to remake/remaster 2-3 than not. The trilogy could be used to build-up the hype for MP4.

These could also be updated via a patch later on to run on the Switch's successor which I hope will be backward compatible. I think I am at my limit now of having to rebuy re-released classic games at full-price on Nintendo's newer consoles and just want to be able to play the ones I already own, patched to run better on the newer systems like PS5 and Xbox Series do with last gen games. Many Switch games use dynamic resolutions so even without patches these could then feasibly run at full resolution on a new more powerful Switch, e.g. Super Mario Odyssey, plus it would fix any framerate drops below 30 fps or 60 fps.

Why do people keep calling a visual remake a remaster? i know Nintendo was the first to use the wrong terminology, but probably just so they can call each game a remaster (with 2 and 3 being just HD versions of the originals).

Hope they are getting Pikmin 1 & 2 for the Pikmin 4 release, as well. At least the Sunshine emulation, there's no need for a visual remaster.

Beginning to make sense that 2/3 were initially planned for the remaster but then Retro had other things to do with Prime 4.

But they should just hold it until they have time. This is crappy.

That'll be the day when we get a full blown trailer of Metroid Prime 4.....and the moment it seems as is if its in development hell...

It would be very disappointing to see the rest of the Trilogy just get the basic bare bones treatment. They are just as good if not better games, and their only real blemish was that they were very iterative in a relatively short time frame.

But considering that in 20 years we only got three, it doesn't feel that way anymore. Few if any games play like the Prime series, and Echoes and Corruption more than deserve the same treatment.

Most likely I'll still buy the ports or the inevitable Trilogy physical collection (cuz it sure as hell seems like Nintendo is trying to squeeze fans for as much as they can before Prime 4 comes out).

Having 2 and 3 just be straight ports would suck. There’s a lot of assets from the recent remaster they could reuse, and the fact that they sold that one for 40 bucks shows that its budget wasn’t particularly big in the first place.

Would love it. MP2 has a rough start, in a world you really hate being until you can move freely. Which was the point but even in MP1 just now I hated the Phazon Mines, esp when there's no light (not it's even more dark).

Ok, initially the only thing I wanted was an HD version of the prime trilogy.

Then they released this remaster and honestly I’ll be pissed if the other two don’t get similar treatment.

However, this is Nintendo. I wouldn’t be shocked for a second if we never see the other two games at all.

I still believe the other two will come out 'fully' remastered, simply because Nintendo has more to win this way

Selling and reselling a remaster trilogy makes a lot of sense rather than just the first part, the logic they use is that Metroid Prime was significantly more popular than the follow ups, but this will be a way to place the spotlight on the sequels, wich are close both on prestige and quality, the fact they were underrated on their time doesn't mean they don't have a lot of potential today (see for example Resident Evil Zero remaster 🧟‍♂️, it has sold a ton, close to Resident Evil 1 despite the fanboys crying, if the brand is strong, people will be interested)

Both Metroid Prime Echoes and Metroid Prime Corruption are amazing games, and fans shouldn't settle for any lesser treatment

I believe it because that's a very Nintendo thing to do. But in that case I won't buy. I have the trilogy on WiiU with true pointer controls. I'll still play the remaster of MP1 but won't double dip for 2 & 3 if they aren't getting that treatment.

I'm sure giving them the exact same treatment will go very far in the Metroid community. People have been praising that Prime remaster a great deal.

I'm sure if they could go back now that Prime Remastered hit as hard as it did, they would maybe consider putting a little more work into 2 and 3, but the rumor is that one has been done for at least a year and they were just sitting on it. Odds are 2 and 3 are basically done as well, and they won't go back to fix it up.
