MiSter Pi MiSTer FPGA clone launches...so here's a build and review

Yeah, you can use scart. I use RGB component, personally.

For anyone following this project, it’s finally available for purchase. I’d recommend getting all the bells and whistles.

I spent $600 on my MiSTer a few years ago, and it’s been worth every penny. The fact that you can now get that for less than 1/3rd the price is absolutely absurd. Anyone interested in retro gaming should seriously consider getting one, it’s an absolute game changer. (Especially if you want to game on a CRT.)

Ah thanks, I would be using RGB (scart). I already have the main retro consoles with everdrives thankfully. So I'd be looking to use this for arcade games mainly.
Just seen in that video that CPS3 is absent :(

I'd like to try a lot of shmups on this thing, but I don't know how to check what cores or things even work correctly. Same with Killer Instinct.

Dzab Dzab , Check out this list for all the current arcade cores, more are added all the time. Anything already released tends to work extremely well, so you should be all set. The Mister discord is also a tremendous resource for all your random use cases and questions.

As for shmups, one thing to note is that some (most?) vertical shooters may require you to physically rotate the screen/crt with mister. I use my mine with the retrotink 4k and it can rotate the display from there, just a note. Personally, Ive been waiting for Taito's Halley's Comet. Used to play it while waiting for pizza, lol.

Check in with VGEsoterica VGEsoterica 's youtube channel, he does a great job on posting the progress of Mister and other stuff including setups, configurations, etc.

Thanks, that list seems quite helpful.

Confusing though, surely CPS2 or Street Fighter 2 etc should be under the arcade cores? Maybe I'm using the site incorrectly.
Appreciate the discord link too, I'll definitely join and check that out.

Well damn, my crt cannot handle that lol. I would have thought the settings would have a way to rotate it.

Have been watching his stuff actually, seems pretty good.

I tried Dodonpachi. That core, at least, has an option to rotate the screen.

I’ve been using the Mister Pi with the lamest setup ever.
Output resolution set at 640x480. HDMI out into a cheap HDMI-to-SCART converter and from there, SCART into a CRT I salvaged from one of my workplaces (definitely not the best CRT I have in the house).
The picture, converted in that way, is quite bad. It’s fuzzy like a composite signal, yet stable like the digital output signal it is (it’s not true analog, coming out of the HDMI port).

And I’m pretty much the happiest kid on the block.
Everything just works. On a CRT I don’t get the shimmering that I was getting on a 720p TV using filters. Excellent motion (still a digital picture though, so there’s some judder when moving the camera in games like Banjo-Kazooie), full screen, minimum lag. I’ve been enjoying it a lot. Sure, I may get a real analog cable to get the best picture, but those cables are quite expensive and I’d have to tinker further with the settings. Maybe in the future.

By the way, how do you set analog stick controls with the N64 core? Can you use the NSO N64 controller from Nintendo?

I’m pretty sure you can, but I can test mine tomorrow.
