1B Brett Pill, 27, has put up big numbers in minors and finally has good chance to make SFGiants. Brandon belt may be optioned.

There are no words.

Hm, so MLB Network is showing Oakland vs. Seattle tomorrow morning at 9am ET (tape delay).

Guess I'll just watch it at that time and avoid reading the score beforehand.

Exactly how bad are the white sox this year? And how bad is the farm system?

:_(

Their farm is pretty bad, way to many years of trading good young players for older players...
*sighs recalling the Daniel Hudson for Edwin Jackson trade*

As for the team, I don't think they will be winning the AL central this year, but I also don't think they are as bad as most people think they are. They have a few more questions that last years team, but at the start of the year last years team was expected to do decently. I expect the white sox to be around a .500 team this year. Their starting pitching is not horrible, not the best out there but not horrible. Their starting line up is decent, Dunn will likely hit around .230 with around 22 HR. Rios will likely also hit around .230 probably with only 15 HR or so. The sox got rid of Carlos Quentin but I really don't see that as a big deal. You can only really count on Carlos Quentin for half of a season anyways, I expect Dayan Viciedo to be able to hit .250 with 20 HR or so which should make him not to different from CQ. For the bullpen we got rid of our closer. It's expected the Reed will be able to fill is shoes, likely won't but I don't think he will do horrible. The white sox are down two starters from the start of last year but Chris Sale and Jake Peavy should for the most part be able to fill their shoes (assuming that Peavy stays healthy LOL)

The final note is we are much improved in the manager sense. While Robin is unproven at least he will actually care. Ozzie had been phoning it in for years now doing little more then just lefty righty match ups. When Ozzie cares he is a decent manager, but he hasn't cared for a while now. Reports coming in is that Robin is focusing a lot on fundamentals which the white sox have little room but to get better at as they have been terrible at those for years.

Yeah I'm torn. Stay up and watch ... knowing that I have work in the morning and a final (an easy one albeit) in the afternoon or it when I come home from class around 8pm and avoid looking at the score.

I'll probably just watch it at night when I get home ...

6am on the east coast and 3am on the west I believe?

I hope the family takes Bush, the Rays, and MLB for everything they can. Maybe teams will start to crack down on DUIs if it costs them money.

Are you fucking kidding me? How is it the Rays responsibility? It's not like he was leaving the clubhouse when he caused the wreck.

Should this happen, I look forward to the unions reaction when contracts stipulate that players must all live on a club owned compound and have a club representative with them at all times. Holding the employer legally and financially responsible for all actions of millionaire 20 year olds will destroy professional sports in less than a decade.

Teams should be employing some personal drivers, since these dipshits will keep it up no matter what.

Every single professional team in America pays for a personal driver service to be on call 24 hours for each team. Well, maybe not the Bengals because that costs money, but every other one. There were a lot of stories about it after the Hancock death.

I agree with this generally, that its insane to think that teams should be watching their players 24/7 but Matt Bush has always been a shithead who has had tons of personal issues in the past with alcohol. If you're going to bring a guy like that into town there is a heightened level of responsibility that should come with that.

Then they need to do a better job of fucking following the idiot drunks who've shown they won't call.

What really pisses me off is the double-standard from the stupid fucks in the media and fanbase who ignore this shit WHICH ACTUALLY KILLS INNOCENT PEOPLE and blow hot air over inane bullshit like steroids.

Yeah, I'm mad.

Do you hold other employers responsible for the actions of their employees? Should George Zimmerman's employer be sued simply for employing him? This is a money grab, pure and simple. The family wants money, so they are looking anywhere they can to get it. I find it reprehensible that they are taking advantage of the tragedy to get rich.

The only person to blame is the piece of shit who got drunk and caused the wreck. Sorry if he isn't rich enough to make you feel better about it, family of the victim, but it's gross to start sniffing around for the deepest possible pockets before the wounds have scabbed over.

What are catchers getting in arb these days? It seems weird that the Brewers were willing to commit $11m over 5 years to Lucroy. It pretty much only buys out his arbitration years, they get nothing else (they do get a club option for the 6th). It seems like an overpay?

This is Lucroy's 3rd season, correct? Pretty solid contract, IMO. He gets timely hits, pretty good blocker behind the plate, and he'll only improve with more experience.

Yeah i just don't really see the benefits to liking themselves in. He was a FA til 2015.

But he wasn't going to break bank in arb unless he somehow explodes. They aren't buying out his FA years. They lock in his salary now to minimize the risk but it's not like there is massive gain to be had by doing so.

With catchers defense is totally irrelevant in the arb process. Lucroy might be one of the best framers in the game but that is something that will never show up in an arb case.

I haven't followed any recent developments of this story, tbh. And while I definitely don't believe the team should be legally responsible, I do think they have a moral responsibility, especially in the case of a grade-A fuckwad like Bush. I also can't even judge whether they met that moral responsibility that I think they have, since I don't know what the Rays did, etc.

Again, my bone is with places like ESPN, who have had three news stories throughout the lifespan of this story, and no articles, no headlines, nothing, about something that's a major problem.

:( NO, why must the White Sox suck? WHY? Oh yeah, Kenny Williams.....proceed.

At least he tends to make the trade deadline interesting... sure he tends to do stupid signings and trades, but who would ever expect a team in a playoff race to trade their starting pitcher for the day and one of their relievers who was pitching at a 2.45ERA (and two other guys) for a guy on the DL that likely wouldn't pitch again that year? Pure entertainment there... as long as you aren't a White Sox fan...

Upon doing a bit more research, apparently Modell's carries the "low crown" option for the MLB caps. Apparently they are the ONLY place that promotes selling them in store.

Took a little drive this afternoon to the closest one and picked one up. The difference seems slight when looking at the cap, but it looks 110% less ridiculous than the silly standard Elmer Fudd caps that they sell.

I still feel jaded at this point though. I just really miss the wool caps.

I'm 5 years removed from studying any sort of law seriously but if I recall right if you are hurt, and then sue the person that hurt you, let that go through the courts, then you can't go and sue anyone one else due to that injury. When you go to sue for an injury you want to include everyone that can be remotely tied to it and let the courts decide if they should be held responsible for it. You will get the most money if the courts decide someone like MLB is responsible instead of the person that actually hit you so it's best to start at the top and work your way down.

Also if someone in my family is hit like that I would want money as well. I think it was someone in this thread that linked or posted a story how the medical bills already over 300k and will keep going up with each day until he either gets better or dies. I don't know about you but I can't afford medical bills anywhere close to that, I would be desperate for money from where ever I could get it. Would it be right for them to get rich from this... most likely not, but at the same time what price does a loved one really have attached to it, what amount of money could replace your father?

Agreed. The old wool caps would also shrink to fit a little. Also, liked the grey cloth under the brim more than the current black material used.

3am West, 6am east. Getting up at 3am to watch it on ROOT Sports and go to work after it's over. I've got a newborn, so I could be up anyway.

I actually took a shower with my old wool one the other day in a last attempt at reviving. It worked well and actually fits fantastic now, that was one of the primary benefits to the wool material. Problem is now is the cap is still gross. The underneath looks like a WW2 relic and I'm not sure if any of you are familiar, but the brace to hold the cap together are basically a ton of plastic daggers going into your scalp.

It may seem like overkill, but I look at it in the case that if he eats it and tanks, his contract would seem more favorable to unload while the brewers draft/develop another catcher from within of over the course of lucroy's contract (although I think his offense will gradually improve as he's still a young starter.) It's all about looking at the future, and I think lucroy provides some much needed stability to the position and is one less spot on the roster to worry about.

Fantasy Draft tonight...12 team, H2H each category league. I have the #9 pick. I actually finished in 2nd last year, despite finishing 8th in actual roto standings.

Time to take it all this year!

Does anyone have an up-to-date rundown on the closer situations for teams? I have a few decent resources but I don't think they're fully updated.

My friend and I share HBO Go. You can have up to 3 devices attached to one account at a time.

I wish I had someone that could share mlb.tv though. None of my IRL friends are as into baseball as I am.

Also eznark, I never knew that you lived in Indiana.

Patrick Corbin's got 5 innings of no-hit ball, plus he's 2-2 with a single and an RBI triple. With him and Tyler Skaggs, I'm starting to believe in the Haren trade.

I just performed the hot water trick with this low crown cap to get a snugger fit. Seems to have worked heavenly. Still waiting on it to dry a bit more, but I think I finally have the formula for a perfect cap down!

Bush wasn't even in the act of performing his duty as an agent to the Rays. How can you sue the Rays when they have nothing to do with the hit and run?

I will presume streams are illegal. But it IS really annoying how i cant listen to the game on the fan590 broadcast unless i sit in a car or buy a radio.
