It's still amazing how he sucked so bad last year nobody else in baseball even wanted to sign him and now he has one of the best years ever for a reliever including the ERA record. Like the perfect representation of how volatile relievers are on a year to year basis. He'll probably revert back to Fernando Rodney next season.

Which is why it shows how ridiculous sabermetrics can be sometimes. The thought that he only accounted for 3.7 wins over a replacement is absurd.
For a reliever that pitches less than 100 innings a year, it's hard to affect games that much. Just because a closer saves X games a year, it doesn't mean he was responsible for X wins since the team had to take the lead and keep the lead through 8+ innings before the closer gets 3 outs to ice the game. Since most relievers nowadays don't pitch much more than 1 inning per appearance, their contribution to a particular win is pretty small (relative to the starting pitcher and starting position players).

Lol Eck is one of the best pitchers of all time. It is known.
Well, I knew of the saves (though not the exact number), but I was clueless that he had 100 CGs.

Also, on the lol salary inflation note: Over his whole career, Eck made less money than A-Rod is being paid this year.

unfortunately for the O's it really looks like the Rays want the title of Best Losers (the team with the most wins but that fails to make the playoffs)
the angels sure don't seem to want it lol

Yep, the old "closers are over-rated" argument the sabermetrics guys love to throw out. Bullshit.

Unless you're John Axford.

Boston really going to lay down and fucking die, eh? Whatever, O's are going to destroy the Rangers anyway.
