It's still amazing how he sucked so bad last year nobody else in baseball even wanted to sign him and now he has one of the best years ever for a reliever including the ERA record. Like the perfect representation of how volatile relievers are on a year to year basis. He'll probably revert back to Fernando Rodney next season.

Just because a closer saves X games a year, it doesn't mean he was responsible for X wins since the team had to take the lead and keep the lead through 8+ innings before the closer gets 3 outs to ice the game. Since most relievers nowadays don't pitch much more than 1 inning per appearance, their contribution to a particular win is pretty small (relative to the starting pitcher and starting position players).

Perhaps I should rephrase. You can't positively affect your team's chances that much when pitching less than 100 innings. Similar to how a manager has minimal positive effect with in game management but can really fuck you over with egregious decisions.
