No sub services...

Sony with the alpha chad play - pull it from gp and tell those beggars to buy it or gtfo.

Oh, and also telling MS they don't care about the gp money.

Props to SD studio - they back themselves to make a product people will pay full price for.

I'll support that attitude and preorder for the first time in 4 years. I have a feeling this may be a stand out iteration for the series.

Interesting guess MLB doesn't like GP killing there sells.

It was on GamePass for 4 years now. You’d think if the GP deal was that bad, they wouldn’t have renewed after the first year.

More likely it was always meant to be a limited time thing while the game built an audience on Xbox after being PS exclusive for such a long time.

You're assuming it was a one year deal to begin with...

What's more likely is the deal expired and Microsoft and MLB couldn't come to terms with a renewal. Microsoft looking to reduce operating costs of GamePass and MLB not willing to take a lower price.

Gamers in charge of demanding to pay more for products. No other community is like this, truly impressive.

It's a good thing to see. People wanting to invest in a hobby they enjoy. Having everyone trying to spend as little money as possible is not good for the gaming industry IMO.

It comes down to cost as well. Some guys (or their agents) want way too much.

Others are just happy to be on the cover.
I am just old :)

Cover athletes should be the best of the best

Plus I have huge issues with their player cards and their ratings but its a game I know and most probably dont look near as deeply into the stats as I do

People can watch a movie for $10 on theaters as well. Or wait a few months and pay $15-20 to watch the movie.

Meanwhile a game is $70 (soon $80).

Movies and shows have similar budgets to games.
Movie watching market is 10x the size or much more than us gaming nerds.

And most movie budgets are not. Only your top cape shit or the like. Less than a handful, really in comparison.

They also receive far more tax breaks and subsidiaries.

You can make a movie with your iPhone. That's actually been done. I get you are trying to oversimplify this but it just doesn't work in reality.

I want a PC version. WTF.
MLB may simply be in deals with other publishers for different platform audiences. They did their own in the past with RBI Baseball on I think PC and Mobile (although at least one year of that also came to consoles,) and there's a PC game out now (in Early Access; i assume it's a GaaS) called MLB Rivals.

lol one review says you barely play. Seems like it's a lot of watching things happen.

Piscatella on the next MLB The Show not being on sub services in 2025:

Sounds to me like "engagement" doesn't necessarily translate into revenue.

Meh, RTTS mode is mid at best anymore and that's the only mode I play. Seems like they put more work into DD anymore.

I’m in the same boat and completely agree. RTTS is my primary mode and they haven’t done shit for it. I bought the MVP Edition of MLB 22 (mostly for the Steelbook) and played the hell out of it. Sampled MLB 23 and 24 on Game Pass and they were practically identical once you got through the intro (24 added females and the “draft”, which was just the skills showcase they got rid of in past games…).

Looks like another year where I’ll be content to stick with MLB 22. I usually only buy 1-2 annual MLB and NFL games per generation anyway, so waiting is no big deal.

In 2023, the game had over six times the number of players on Xbox than it did on PlayStation 5

Eh......that is based on internal data from a trophy/achievement site and it doesn't make any sense.

"Let's break down the data. MLB The Show 23 has been out for a week on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch — so we are taking the player count from seven days. On all PlayStation consoles with our sample of 3 million players, MLB The Show 23 charted in 41st on our PlayStation Chart of the most popular games, linked above. On the Xbox Chart with a sample of 2.4 million players, the baseball simulation charted in 13th, outperforming the likes of Halo Infinite, Hogwarts Legacy, and Madden NFL 23.

When we adjust the data for the total sample size difference, MLB The Show 23 was played by 6.8 times more players on Xbox consoles compared to both PS5 and PS4. Though it's worth noting our PlayStation sample might be slightly skewed towards the European market, the sheer quantitive value of that sample set is more than enough to make this a valuable comparison."

PS had 3 million players while Xbox had 2.4 million but they "adjusted" it and somehow Xbox had 6.8 times more players? You gotta explain that to me bro.

The trophy data is weird, but this is something more easy to decipher, for an older version but I gotta imagine would still be similar for later versions.

  • MLB® The Show™ 21 from San Diego Studio is the fastest-selling title in franchise history with more than 2 million copies* sold across all platforms. The game has reached more than 4 million players since releasing on April 16, 2021

2 million copies sold across all platforms (PS4/5, Xbox One/Series), but 4 million players in total. Game Pass on Xbox (since no PC version) alone accounted for half (or more) of the total player-base.

That seems like a much more reasonable stat. So the question goes back to why yank it from Game Pass. I'm guessing MLB wants more sales revenue than sub revenue. Could be MS wasn't willing to give as much money for the game on the service as they had been. No way to know.
