That DJ finish was the greatest thing I have ever seen performed. I didn't even know that a suplex into an arm bar was something that was possible.

It has become my favourite mma monent, just barely surpassing the Fedor/Randleman flying suplex.

Fuck I can't wait to see what crazy shit people will be performing in 10 years, it is going to be Street Fighter level shit. Fucking tatsumakis and guillotine throws. Great time to be a martial arts fan.
 
DJ was EASILY on his way to a 50-40 decision and still went for the finish.

That is GOAT level shit.

People got no idea how much they will miss him when he's gone.

I wonder if whomever fights Conor next will use his loss to Mayweather to mock him in press conferences leading up to the fight, would be awesome to listen to Conor's response to that.

His response would probably be that he made more money in that one fight than they will in their entire careers.

I might be crazy but I think Cucuy could present some problems for Conor much in the same way Nate did. Doesn't have the striking skills but very rangy, good chin, and great stamina.

Yes, i think so too. But if (big if) Conor can get over his stamina issue the fight would be a nightmare for Tony, he needs to buy his time. Avoid Conor's power punches in the first rounds, wait for him to gas out and go to town.

Cucuy leaves his chin out there and gets hit a lot though, I'm not sure he could take Conor's punishment in the first two rounds. That said, if Conor's typical energy dip happens in the 3-4 rounds, that's when Cucuy would really shine.

It really depends on if Tony can take a beating like Nate can. I could see him winning since he seems to take punishment pretty well.
 
Tony can take a punch but he doesn't roll with them as well as Nate does.

If he fights Conor, he'd be wise to avoid letting Conor lure him into keeping it standing and becoming a boxing match like he did to Eddie. Tony should bank on his Imanari roll and stay awkward, just soften him up within his rubber guard, tenderise him with elbows and drain his tank submission attempts until Conor inevitably gasses.

If Conor works on his cardio and doesn’t let it go to the ground he might not even need to finish him. He’ll light him up on the feet and get a UD. I think this is a really tough fight for Tony, he’s taken tons of shots from far lesser fighters like Groovy Lando. At 155 nobody has been able to withstand Conor’s hits, only Nate could and that was at 170.

Like I can easily see this going like a more dominant version of the Diaz 2 fight. Tony getting staggered or knocked down, his takedowns getting stuffed, and Conor just telling him to stand up every time he’s down instead of jumping on him. If Tony can take his worst shots and turn it into a vicious dogfight that wears Conor down enough to get him to the ground, he’ll have a chance.
 
When I think back on this weekend I barely remember the Tony/Kevin fight. I just remember MM styling on Borg for 20 minutes before doing a pro wrestling move for his finish.
 
Our god and savior Lobov fights this weekend. Conor called Dana and told him to give him a fight already and here we are.

Lobov/Fili and Cerrone/Till and polish cutie Karolina fights some random girl.

With the UFC on this one. If you're complaining of memory loss and slurred speech, you shouldn't be fighting and can't blame an organisation for not clearing you.
 
I'm a bit late for this, but I will never consider Mighty Mouse top anything since he avoided TJ for a record that means absolutely nothing considering the scrubs he has fought throughout his career. The number 1 pound for pound fighter in the world, should be able to beat ANYONE in their own weightclass, you can't just drop competition like that, fucking coward. Dana should sell the whole division like he wanted a few months ago.

It's fair to criticize them considering he was concussed against Brock, a person he never should have fought who was on roids and nobody was surprised at all about being on roids, who Hunt even said was on roids and shouldn't be fighting
 
I don't think any of us sincerely believe this is has only been done out of concern for Marks health.

This is only going to make it more likely that fighters don't seek treatment or make statements on things like this 'cause they'll see their livelihood dry up.
 
Oh come the f*ck on. That is something that they should be going straight to Hunt about and go from there. Not completely nix the fight due to some article as if it's all cut and dry.
 
I mean, given the heat the NFL's been under for head injuries, the UFC wants no part of attention of that kind. It has nowhere near the popularity the NFL has to withstand that kind of scrutiny. It's just a bonus for the Exec's that it's Hunt to be the sacrificial lamb since he's been making blatantly negative statements about the company for awhile now.
 
Mark has been in there for too long (K1, MMA) IMO but who am I to judge how long he should go. The UFC is ran by cowards who cant talk to people. Mark gave them great fights.

About CTE its too early to tell. Who are the oldest fighters who fought for UFC/Pride FC? They all seem to be doing ok. Havent seen Liddell in a while he was knocked around pretty heavy later in his career.
The one I have a bad feeling about is Minotauro Nogueira. He was hit by everything and was hailed for having a iron chin and never quit.

Regardless of how disingenuous UFC is being with the very real likelihood of Hunt having brain damage, I can't help but laugh at this. Werdum is replacing Hunt (in Australia) on short notice just days after saying he didn't want to fight Hunt because the fight was in Australia.

Did TJ ever fight in flyweight?

It would have been a great fight for sure, but come on, regardless of the division it is pretty impressive to have a win streak that long against the best at that weight class. And he didn't just beat them, he has absolutely demolished everyone. I don't see him staying in flyweight, he has nothing to gain from staying there. And lol, he didn't drop competition, he just didn't want to get involved with the bullshit money fights that are happening all the fucking time now.

What? Of course he wanted money fights. Money was his number one complaint leading up to the Borg fight. But he wanted to blame UFC not pushing him. Then Dana offered him points and TJ both of which he refused.

When did he say that? The only comments I saw about it was MM throwing out the possibility that TJ might not make weight while asking for a fight against Borg who absolutely missed weight in 2 of his last 4 fights.

Throughout his career, DJ would first hear who he was fighting first from second hand sources. The UFC wouldn't give him a call first. They'd just put the bout in motion and he would hear about it after the punditry did - which is absurd and insulting, and doubly so considering DJ is a champion.

Come time for the 11th title defence, DJ asked to fight Sergio Pettis, but the UFC insisted on Borg so DJ took the Borg fight.

Then when he started preparing for Borg, TJ started making noise and Dana approach DJ that he fight was now going to be against TJ, who had never once fought in the division. DJ resisted but Dana insisted that it was what TJ wanted - which is really fucking insulting considering DJ was a 10 time defending champion.

DJ resisted at first but then said he would take the fight for more money.

UFC said no.

Then DJ said he would accept the fight if he got guaranteed TJ's purse if he failed to make weight.

This was a stipulation TJ himself went on record to agreeing to but the UFC said no.

At which point, DJ said fuck it and went public with how terribly the UFC had treated him, which they have. DJ is a great ambassador for the sport, a consummate professional and a dominant champion. The respect they were giving did not reflect that, not even close.

And before long the TJ fight fell apart.

Not because DJ refused to fight, but because the UFC refused to accept his terms, which were not at all outrageous.

I don't trust this timeline coming from MM at all. It's at odds with things he's said in the past and even when discussing some of the elements you mention here, he's completely at odds.

Doesn't want TJ fight unless he gets guaranteed purse AND doesn't have to fight even a replacement if TJ doesn't make weight. Claims it's because rankings should have meaning. But he wants Pettis (ranked lower than Borg) OR would take Garbrandt (with no missed weight stipulation) because Champion. Claims not to care about his professional legacy to Ariel (paraphasing; "my kids are my legacy") but previously put out statements clearing talking about how big a deal his 11th straight defense would be.

Everyone who pays attention knows that the UFC isn't going to take your wants into account unless you're putting asses in seats. Dana's always been bullish in the way he handles the business. But as much as that's true MM's own statements leading up to the fight being finally set have no consistency. So like most things, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Facts that are relevant:
MM complained about not getting pushed and not being paid well.

He was offered a fight against a more popular fighter that would give him a huge visual boost along with which comes the opportunity of more money if he impresses. He refused it outright then asked for the ridiculous make-weight stipulation that would mean if TJ was even a lb off then the card loses an entire fight. That type of deal has never, ever been done. For anyone.

MM then requests Ray Borg who almost no one has paid any attention to because he's middle of the road in a division comprised of middle of the road.

These are not things that make MM an endearing figure. When all is said and done I still don't care about MM and I still know UFC/Dana are staying status quo dicks w/ the business.

As someone who had that shit once because an idiot kept training instead of taking time off, that shit sucks and its not fair to compete with it.

Should treat it like a failed weigh in AT LEAST. Should also get banned a couple of months for trying to cheat at the medical.

Ya I didn't think fighters could fight with open staph infections. I know it's probably always around but in a fight you can get cut and have the person's infection rub on broken skin.

TJ is without a doubt more popular and more well known than MM when that fight is being set up and fighting a bigger name is always a chance to make more money. This isn't even debatable as buy rates show this historically.
