Saw the video, it was only a bit better than the thumbnail made me think. Though I wouldn't ever think of Detroit as being a place to have this.

Although I'd never go to a maid cafe, something like this just doesn't seem the same without Asian girls.

Aww... those nerds are adorable!

And no hidden negative connotations, but I've never seen such a huge group of black otaku's! Awww.

I don't understand why people feel the need to recreate these things in America; at cons, in cities, or wherever. The "allure" (sigh) of those places in Japan is to ogle Japanese girls in ridiculous costumes doing dumb things. Things that are decidedly Japanese . The strangeness is somehow amplified when its emulated somewhere else.....especially here.

Seems like a niche group of people living out their fantasy, in a city with a rapidly declining....everything, let them have their fun.

The tourism this'll bring will solve all of Detroit's budget problems. Plus, they have Pocky!

The maid girl had good pronunciation. Magicaru! Magicaru!

I didn't know anime was so popular in the black community around detroit.

I couldn't imagine trying to do this in the tenderloins.

Be able to dress up cutely and wait on people. Thought I couldn't deal with any sort of pandering, Onichan, or other bullshit. But the general idea of it has it allure I'd say.

Wish we had one of those near where I live. Just a nice place where nerds/otaku can hang out.

When I was living in Florida, we had places like the Wizards of the Coast stores and Internet cafe's (which often doubled as a laser tag joint) that we could meet and hang out at. There were also otaku centric stores (sold anime, manga, and various Japanese goods/imports) but a lot of those started going out of business after anime crashed in the west and video/record stores in general started disappearing.

This is the last thing detroit needs right now. I can't see anyone saying "hey, let's travel to detroit and visit the maid cafe".

My god.

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
They need to bring the tsundere cafe to america

After watching the video I have to say I sort of admire this. Here are some people who are unabashedly pursuing what entertains them. In some ways they have more guts than most people. They probably realize they're going to be mocked but they don't care and are worried more about creating a space for people who have similar interests. I can't be down on that.

It's nerdy as hell, but I can't be down on it.

Even though Royal/T in Culver City recently closed it wasn't the only maid bar in Los Angeles. There's a small bar in Little Tokyo called 'Tapas & Bar C' in the Honda Plaza that's been open since 2008. Nice little place to hang out at for drinks whenever you're in the area.

If you're ever there try the infamous Galvatron...'drink three and you win'
