Monster Hunter Wilds Charges For Character Edit Vouchers Again, and Players Are Frustrated

What time is it?
Is there a legit reason why they are doing this? Does constantly editing your character cause a strain on the servers or something?

If an xbox namechange costs money don't see why this is any different. It's to prevent users from constantly changing I'm guessing.

That was/is also stupid. Sony just flat out wouldn’t let you change your name for the longest time either. Meanwhile Valve lets you change your name as often as you want and lets you go crazy with the custom backgrounds etc for your profile.

not to mention games usually don't charge you to change how your character looks, outside of MMOs really

Ubisoft doesn't even charge you to do this in Far Cry games, which also have multiplayer

this is just stupid

Where is the deranged hate for this game's DLC practices when Dragon's Dogma 2 was burned on the stake for having any kind of ingame DLC items?

This DLC practice isn't exactly new for the Monster Hunter series. Capcom typically updates Monster Hunter games with free content (monsters, hunts, events, etc.) and the DLC is all cosmetic which seems like a fair tradeoff. Charing to edit character/Palico appearances is super shitty as buying into the paid DLC could naturally lead users to want to edit their character apperances.

The game allows you to do some unlimited edits to your hunter when you are inside your tent, like changing hairstyles, facial hair, colors and so on. But if you try editing using the character creator from the main menu, like to change your nose or eye shape, its where it asks for an edit voucher.

Its shitty as fuck. They give away 1 voucher to edit your hunter and your palico for free 1 time, but after that if you want to edit the character looks again you gotta pay 7$ for a 3 time edit. Its fucking ridiculous but MH World was the same thing. Reason i spent a good amount of time during the beta to edit and re edit my hunter untill i was happy cuz during the beta there was no edit limitations and you can transfer your character from the beta to the main game.

Consoles were stupid.
Your Gamertag was a Primary or Secondary Key in their database.
Something that we learned in grade school computing to never do.
Which is why they charged us to change it and limited how many times we could do so in a span of time.

Steam your account never changes, your display name is all you are changing because logically display name should not be a primary/seconday key.
It would be like a bank having first name be a primary/secondary key.

Theyve since learnt to use display names now.

This is how they made money for MH series.
All the fashion stuff (hair style, tattoo, character edit) and chat stickers are paid.
Luckily, the collab stuff is always free.

I don't remember if the old games have these (MH1 to Generations), but it's been this way since MH World

A few examples of Capcom - Sells actual cheats like quick unlocks in Resident Evil, fighters in Street Fighter that used to be a reward for beating the game with a certain character etc (same with appearances), Dragons Dogma selling stuff you *can* get in game.

Monster Hunter selling, for real money, a way to fucking edit your character. It's like buying cosemtic skins, but even worse, as you only get access to the basic stuff you already paid for when you bought the fuckng game. Fuck Capcom (and the rest of them)

Yeah they all are pretty stupid. Xbox Gamertag changes still charge $10 to this day. I think gamertag change is less data than character changes but I feel they do this sort of thing so that people don't change recognizable identities on a whim. Having said that these things are clearly a moneygrab. It shouldn't cost $10 to change some text and you can prevent changes on a whim by setting time limits on changes.

Meanwhile on Sony PlayStation. $9.99 (4.99 for + members.)
Nintendo - Change anytime without cost
PC - Wild Wild West.

Ok? I just was pointing out xbox gamertag changes still cost $10 (regardless of paid sub or not) because Benny said "was/is". I thought maybe he didn’t know if they still do that or not.

I doubt it has anything to do with data cuz you can edit your hunter unlimited times for light cosmetics, like hair, beard, hair color, etc. Now if you want to change the nose or eyes etc, gotta pay. Its just a pure moneygrab.

They have?

I always thought they just made a game and it sold ridiculously well.

This cosmetic dlc shit is just since World.

"Its been this way since World"

Oh, you mean two games ago in a series of 10 games

Pretty sure they have made all their development budget back with general sales. But nickle and diming your audience who seems to think this is how they make profit, is how they get you.

Same with the Tekken franchise. You have stans and clowns out there saying "well if they dont sell dlc how are they supposed to make money"

How about making a good game that respects your audience

No it definitely isn't data related. I think it's more encouraging people to keep a certain identity, physical or name. Especially when you look at what doesn't require the vouchers.

I have friends that bash every single company out there that has any stupid DLC, then they defend Capcom for this kind of thing. Specifically Capcom they become a giant hypocrite.
I do hope you tell them that their opinions are pathetic and hold no weight! Hypocrite's, I hate em

Why not? They have people eager to pay $70 for a LR story and a few more hours of HR at launch, and who will have to wait for more free content all year followed by a paid expansion. Capcom laughing all the way to the bank.

Having a Gamertag as a primary key is stupid as fuck but NOT having the Gamertag as a secondary key (unique index on Gamertag, probably on lowercase Gamertag) would also be stupid as fuck.

Not defending the practice but it should be pointed out you can change a bunch of things for FREE including hairstyle, make-up, eyes, mouth, style of walking etc. You can't change gender, skin colour or the face template you started with.

I think there's a different set of standards for judging this kind of DLC in a multiplayer and single-player game. In MP everyone knows there's this "economy" around trying to be the best or look the coolest. In single player it just feels much worse, like why are you charging for this. I'm not getting any "cred" or competitive edge vs other actual people, I'm just playing my game.

Why not make a character you like from the start?🤷🏾‍♂️
Because they post process the image to hell and back and your character looks vastly different in the world vs. character editor.

It comes down to principles. You're either okay with it or you're not. Some people are not and I agree with them.

Damn every time I am close to buying this and trying MH for the first time, something like this sets me back. I think I’m firmly in the wait for sale group now.

I remember when Evolve launched last gen and was burned at the stake for cosmetic DLC at launch. Imagine selling cosmetics and charging to edit your character 😆😆
