Called this a year ago..no one believed...

I personally am excited to see what they can do with this power now. This is a spin-off. I don't understand why people are treating this like it's MH5 and MH is doomed forever...

MH Stories shouldn't even have the name MH tied to it if we're acting how you guys are. Turn-based? How could they!

But no one freaked out over that game? But this game is the tradition MH with westernized aspects, but still the core MH, and we're acting like this? Damn...

It lacks 5 on the title, so its safe to assume this one is the spin-off. They could have name it Monster Hunter 5: World.

4chan rumour regarding PS4' MH5 obviously turns out to be MHW. If you don't accept MHW is a mainline title, cool. But you cannot use 4chan rumor to say MHW is spinoff and mainline is coming to Switch, because rumour itself says opposite.

PC later.... fuck!

Gonna have to double dip here. Reasoning for ever purchasing a switch is now dead.

What is that wisp shit? Is it for gathering quests or is it just a highlight for collectables? Its a bit OTT.
It looks like bugs that are used for tracking purposes, which is actually a good thing considering the structure of the game world is going to be pretty different being open world now. There needs to be some form of direction. That is the way hunting works after all, you track things by scent, footprints , etc.

Not really sure why people have an issue with it

This is the same guy who spent several minutes just running away from the monster. I think we can rest assured that him not bothering to aim for the proper hitzones isn't a big deal.

Extended waterfall bit

That actually looks amazing. I still maintain that there is going to be a huge focus on environmental interaction, and this kinda backs that up. I think the reveal focused a bit too heavily on it. People wanted to see more combat to ensure it wasn't turned into some generic hack and slash game.

Graphics don't look more advanced than what the Switch could pull off, so it seems like a deliberate splitting of user bases.

Uhhhhh what? I completely disagree...

All whilst the instinctive, primal monster extends it's sinuses and smells,

yet isn't triggered by the scent of the hunter directly in front of him

"Its vision is based on movement."

Just saying.

LOL JUST SHOOT W/E

To back up your point, do the shots seem to even be effecting it?

Not like I've ever aimed correctly half the time with the bowgun anyhow. Business as usual for me. >_>;

I must have watched the trailer like 20 times already. Fucking hell lol.

Capcom you better not mess this up. If this does turn out well, it will break me.
Me and my 3 friends are so excited to finally have Monster Hunter on PS4. Playing on a controller again with online drop in is going to be amazing! If this is the only MH game we get on consoles that's not Nintendo after this so be it I'll be happy.

Oh man, I'm getting excited just thinking about playing this game on PC. Hopefully XX localization gets announced tomorrow. XX on the go and World at home!

I'm waiting to see how MonHun pans out on the Switch (we don't even know if XX will get a Western release!) but if Capcom screws the Nintendo MonHun fanbase to attempt to gamble on AAA sales on other platforms.....

Imagine if there is no XX Western localization, no MH5 on Switch (only on 3ds), and Switch misses out on a World port as well.

Do you guys think this will be play anywhere title for MS?

I doubt it. With the PC version coming later I bet Capcom is hoping some people double dip.

I wonder if the monster's moveset changes depending on whether it's eaten another monster, like how Zamtrios changes movesets depending on whether its belly is inflated.

I could see that. I imaine if you flinch it's belly while puffed up you might cause it to regurgitate it's prey cause a long stun, similar to a knock down.

Until Capcom confirms MHW is MH5, its a spinoff. That 5 is BIGGGGGGGGG deal because that makes or breaks the game as part of the mainline series. If Switch gets 5, then we'll watch how salty Sony fans get. Why can't we all get along

People are just saying numbered entries are mainline. There will be a Monster Hunter 5 and this isn't it. No reason for anyone to get hung up on semantics.

Cautious optimism. I really want MH to move beyond what it currently offers, but I'm not sure this is the direction I was expecting.

I also thought I didn't want an open world Zelda but I was wrong, so I'm gonna keep an open mind.

Go watch the Monster Hunter 4 reveal. I don't recall anybody acting the way they are with this trailer when that was shown.

There were definitely people wary about MH4's trailer, but there were also other factors: MH4 was a numbered game for a portable device, they said it was early in development (it wouldn't come out for another 2 years after announcement) so it was obviously more of a rough concept, and the specter of "mainstreaming" wasn't hovering over it even before it was revealed.

I've seen it. It's actually probably worse in retrospect, but I also don't remember it debuting at an E3 stage like this.

If I were Capcom, I would show the fight in the trailer played properly ASAP. Preferably with a UI. I think the difference would be apparent.

Yeah. I think a big part of the worry is that nobody knows what the hell the structure of the game or gameplay loop is going to be. Is it going to be like BotW open? Is there an end goal? Are there hunter ranks? Is there a hub system with proper quests? Is there a main story? Will getting to hunts be cumbersome and take a lot longer to get into because of the tracking shit and world design now? Is there going to be a minimap? Fast travel? Waypoints?

It feels like the monster just never goes into combat mode. Where are the attack patterns? Where is the gameplay rhythm? It looks more like a scripted chase like Lagiacrus or something.

I assume it's really scripted. For better or worse, the trailer focus on new stuff, like the acrobatics, the stealth and the fireflies. Hopefully, the stream on June 6th will clear the confusion.

underwater combat isnt back :(

What the hell. Why even tease it then? :(

Then hopefully people would import the hell out of XX on Switch to show them they have an audience for portable MH in the West.

Damn, that's a great idea. Would be hilarious if the prey was still alive too.

The new gameplay trailer linked, just confirms my excitement for this even more.

I like the idea of tracking the monster to find it, instead of just running around until you do, or knowing which area it's usually in. Using context clues in the environment makes sense for "hunting". On the other hand, I'm not really feeling the highlighting detective mode mechanic so much.

I like that he enrages the monster and is able to lure it to a locale that has some environmental benefits to fighting the monster.

I love the fucking grappling hook, more agile traversal options are a great addition to the series imo.

Also, the game looks fantastic from a graphical standpoint. Anyone saying they dislike the art direction must be blind, because it's the same art direction we've had in the series just with higher fidelity assets.

As someone who loves MH and has a Switch, I'm seriously thinking about just skipping XX and waiting for this on PC.

I don't even think they need to go that far for the initial reveal. They just need to show a basic monster fight. The trailer is trying too hard to show off every new element, and it looks bad.

The gifs in this thread are notable because they show one aspect outside of of the trailer, instead of throwing it all in your face. It's easier for people to digest.

Swimming is back for the 10 people that liked it I guess. I like what I see so far in terms of traversal and graphics. The gameplay didn't get a chance to show off actual combat yet, so no comment as of now. Stealth makes the AI look really stupid and/or blind, but I hope that they'll fix that come release. If an enemy spots you, they shouldn't immediately look away the minute you enter a bush, and fast movements should alert them.

Edit:
underwater combat isnt back :(

Man good news after good news. Keep em coming Mon Hun team!

Welp the trailer didint give me enough info on how it plays. I want to know about the combat and more, the only thibg to be exited about here is mh in hd.
reminds me of the zelda wii u reveal n e3 2014 that showed literally nothing and yet many people declared it game of e3

Also that gameplay trailer posted before didnt give me much info either.

Is there a demo going on at e3?

Right now it just looks like a formless game that looks very pretty.

Water = environment variety. I'm fine leaving out underwater combat. Maybe try it again when VR is standard so depth perception is better.
