That's the point. All of those games have declined over time, and MS has failed to replace them (with the exception of Forza Horizon, whose future is not enterely guaranteed).
Super disappointed how xbox have ended up. They used to be a real player back in the day.

So many IP's in the shitter.

Id say that was pretty respectable for a title that's been out for a good few years.

Be interesting to see how the day and date stuff does.
Tbh it's shit for one of the best Xbox titles in years and one of the most active, according to the Xbox fanbase.

They are now competing with Capcom, SEGA, Koei Tecmo etc... They didn't pick an easy fight. Blinded by the quest for infinite growth, rather than having their own ecosystem and be happy with it, they forced themselves into something entirely different.

Not having the pressure to support hardware will at least lead to better quality of games, as the schedule will not be that important anymore. However, the competition will be much more fierce.

And that’s the issue. Some people only want to hear blind positivity (that’s the job of shills and fanboys). The current Xbox roadmap is one that was laid down in 2020 or so.

Contraband is MIA
Everwild: the creative director left.

State of Decay 3: Internal turmoil, the studio´s track record is not that great.

and the big hitters:
Project Dark and Fable have had troubled development, and in both cases, the studios lack expertise in the genre they are trying to develop

And I can guarantee that Xbox Game Studios' finances are not great either.

Possibly but they hardly knock out a fuck ton of games.

Think he was speaking for himself.
Still, the only game I could think that people would put as GOTY would be the Ori game

Forza Horizon is also on a decline but not nearly as bad as the others, and really it's just FH5 which could be a one off.

Forza Motorsport has been mediocre since FM5. I don't think Gears 4/5 are bad games by any means but they are definitely shadows of the original trilogy. Halo Infinite is sort of similar in that I don't think it's a bad game, but it's not a good Halo game and Halo hasn't been good since Bungie left.

Microsoft used to be able to always rely on the "Big 3", but now I would say Forza Horizon is the only part of the big 3 that's reliable. I think the output of Xbox studios will get better, and I'm sure they have some good stuff in the works but sort of like Gears Xbox is a shadow of its former self.

It's a shame they probably won't go out like SEGA because SEGA released one of the best consoles of all time before they "died".

Contraband holy shit forgot about that one surely cancelled?

Rare, lol fuck that studio.

Personally loved SOD2 so looking forward to 3

Wasn't aware that Fable had trouble but Perfect Dark looked like a mock up to me, can't believe they took so long to basically come up with what looks like a reskinned Deus Ex game.

2020: Wasteland 3 followed by Ori 2
2021: Psychonauts 2 with Halo:I and FH5 in top5
2022: Grounded followed by Pentiment
2023: Starfield followed by HiFi Rush
2024: Indiana Jones
Fair enough, I enjoyed some of those titles also but wouldn't be my picks for games of those particular years.

Yes, that is why I added imho in the previous post. But let's agree that this lineup is already so much more better than what MS had from, what, around 2012 until 2020.

Absolutely. Personally I had loads of fun with Starfield but fuck did that game have issues.

I wrote a Markov Chain generator with some lines of Ruby when I was a student few decades ago. Fed it some books in English, and it was able to produce more coherent output than OP. If this is with passes as content, I guess I'll have to fire the old script back up.

State of Decay is one of those IPs that has a strong community despite its flaws. I think it has the potential to be regarded as the XCOM of zombies. It's one of the most interesting games Xbox has (from a conceptual point of view). Let's see if 3 can be the best version that the IP can be.

Hum? What internal turmoil? And I wouldn't say that their track record isn't that great. It's not stellar, but that's hardly uncommon.

I agree, it has its flaws, sure but it's a good game, quite unique and with zero competition in its niche. One of the few true success stories from MS/Xbox. And as you say, strong user base and sense of community, devs close to the player community, actual decent sales and profitable, and got dev support/updates since 2018 until a few months ago because State of Decay 3 is around the corner. One of the best and most interesting Xbox offerings. Day one for me if SoD2 comes to PS5 this year to pave the way to SoD3.

Bigger issue is that Microsoft/Xbox is hard western focus and currently the trajectory in that space regarding AAA is not looking bright.

In terms of their track record, I meant a studio that is known for subpar technical releases (bugs, overall unpolished)

which is the point of MS not being a great publisher. SoD2 under Xbox didn't substantially improve the quality of the game.

One could assume that SoD3 will have a better release, but with MS, that is not a guarantee.

Pretty hard to think of a third party publisher that could beat them. Capcom is great but they won’t have the same quantity of output as MS.

Call of Duty is a top tier shooting game.
he's just another another victim of XDS (xbox derangement syndrome) surprises mods allow these kinds of trash posts yet that's like 80% of everything here lately. playstation fans always brag about how much more sony sells (like anyone really cares) you'd think they would just be chill and content, but they suffer massively from napoleon syndrome and XDS, they have to constantly make threads like this rally around and circle jerk

Large in volume, middling in quality.

Their MS studios, Bethesda and Activision fare has been meh to mid for the most part.

Flight Sim, Horizon and Indy were pretty good but that’s about it so far. Avowed is “Good Enough for GamePass”. Not a game that will sell in volume elsewhere.

Doom should be good when they comes out, fingers crossed. Everything else, who the heck knows. Starfield was hyped up and they turned out to be meh.

The quality of MS games is inconsistent.

CoD BO6 and Indiana were great, but Avowed seems to be average. South of Midnight probably won't be very well received, but then there's the new Doom game that looks like it's going to be amazing.

CoD is the only thing they've released that I put any real time into.

And that's barely even theirs. We'll see what they do to CoD in 2-3 years from now.

Don't care about Forza, Halo has sucked for over a decade, Hellblade was even less of a game that your typical walking simulator, couldn't possibly care less about Avowed, it's just so much generic shit.

Doom is looking like the next thing of theirs Ill play, and thanks to Game Pass it'll be the first one I didn't buy day one. I'll pay my $10 for a month and that'll be that.

Still the worst first party by a mile.

The studios they all acquired are proving what we all knew - they are largely mid

Bethesda is just abysmal lately and has gotten worse under MS leadership, they are decades behind
Bigger issue is most of the companies anymore have problems created by success. Once they become good they hired more people (degrading quality) increased costs of everything business related and just had to get products out to meet deadlines etc. it stopped becoming joy and just became business.

Not yet but hopefully Doom will start to change that and if they can get a Fallout game out sooner and make Bethesda do a better job and maybe even a new Dishonored then yeah, i'll agree.

They could be good but they need to properly invest in their studios and game engines. I fear what the next Elder Scrolls will become after seeing Starfield.

Microsoft is a giant hodgepodge of acquired resources moving at different speeds so it is naturally a mixed bag. Some of it has been eroded by their management less than others. It's okay when it does though, they can always buy more!
