So sorry to hear that. Lost mine suddenly & unexpectedly just a bit before leaving for college (...decades ago now), making an awful bookend to the home years.
GAF median age is I suspect also getting higher, so we'd all better recognize that we may not have too many years ahead with our aging parents, and use them well. We'll all be right there with you sooner or later.
