My Kitten Passed Away Today. :(

This is Buttons. About a year and a half ago my father and sister found her meowing as a tiny kitten in our gutter. What initially started as an effort to nurse her back to health before finding her a home eventually led to us taking her in to live with us, our dog, and our other two cats.

Buttons was one of the happiest, most energetic, and friendliest kittens I've ever met. No disrespect meant to either of our other two cats, but Buttons was the cat that I would say that I was closest too. She was so cuddly and playful.

For the past couple months, she had been having breathing issues. Wheezing attacks were common and they eventually lead to what our vet believes were athsma attacks that were so strong we intially thought they were seizures. A couple weeks ago she saw a vet and was given medicene that seemed to be helping the problem. No strong attacks since we started her on it! However, today she began throwing up very badly while with my parents and then walked into the bathroom and began to meow loudly. My dad went to hold her and relax her and she passed away while he held her. My Dad is not a cat person at all but he had grown very close to Buttons and it was so shocking seeing my Dad struggling to hold it together.

I just went outside and petted her for the last time, and she's on the way to be cremated (I assume) with my parents. I loved this Kitten and it's so sad to see such a young creature die.

R.I.P Buttons. We hardly knew ye.

just had to be a black kitty :(

I've got a black kitty, and my gf lost a black kitty a few years ago.

Really sad story, sorry for your loss :( Glad you could help Buttons though, you enriched her life tremendously.

Sorry for your loss.

My girlfriend has a tuxedo cat that has neurological problems the last few months of his life. He was a handsome cat. :(

Sorry too hear that man. Sure it's not the same as a person dieing, but it still isn't easy.

I adopted my cat when she was a kitten born at an condemned house I was squatting in when I was homeless. She is 18 years old now and starting to stumble more often although she can still jump up on the couch and seems healthy other than a bad shoulder. I know it's going to be really hard on me when she dies

Feeling your pain amigo. I had all 3 of my dogs die in the past 12 months; they were 18 (she simply gave up on eating... the vet had no choice but to put her down), 14 (started have small seizures that became big seizures... stopped eating), and 13 (had one massive seizure and lost basically all motor control) years old. Had 2 of our 4 outdoor cats die in that time period as well, but we don't know how, they just were dead the next morning in our garage, but it was 2 nights apart. We assume they got into some sort of poison or chemical from the field across the street.

Safe to say, it has been a rough year for my family/the pets in my family.

We had a perfectly healthy West Highland Terrier who I grew up with and when he was 8, he once suddenly had an intense seizure, threw up, went into a coma and never woke up again. Shit like this is sad as hell, but it happens unfortunately...

:( I are sad now. I almost got a cat on 3 occasions, but thinking about stuff like this is something I don't want. Yeah the good outweighs the bad blahblah but still.

RIP to your Buttons.

RIP, Buttons.

I empathize. I lost my pup recently. She was eight and died suddenly. Please, cherish the pleasant memories. And be glad that you provided her with a loving home.

Sorry, man.

I lost a year old cat recently. He had a blood parasite, the vet said it wasn't a big deal, but he slowly wasted away. I tried my hardest to help him but he passed away when I brought my other kitties to the vet to give him a blood transfusion. It's really, really shitty to lose a pet, especially when they're so young. He was such an awesome cat, too.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I know just how you feel, one of my cats just passed away today as well...

Eerily, he was also a black cat (named Edgar)

(he's the one of the left. The one on the right died a couple years ago, so all I have left is the one in the middle)

My condolences, DiscoJer. Those are some really cute cats.

I'm still sad about losing my little buddy, but the silver lining is that it lead me to rescuing another cat from the humane society, and he's fit in very well. If I hadn't lost him, I would have never saved this cat, and he could have ended up getting gassed.

There are far too many kitties that need a home. :(

For something positive: a little over a year ago, I brought my kitty named Foxey over to my girlfriends house, and somehow she ended up getting into the garage and running away. She wasn't an outside cat and when I tried to catch her she ran into the woods. We searched for days but we couldn't find her. I was devastated, since she's always been my special kitty. Days and days passed and she never came back, and I started to accept she was gone.

Three weeks later, she shows back up at my girlfriends house. By then, I thought she was gone for good. She was emaciated as hell but we brought her back to health and right now she's chilling in the window and looking outside. I will be sure that she continues to have a happy life.

seeing his pic makes me cry but this was my kitty that passed earlier this year

he was buried in my yard with his favorite toy.

He was such a beautiful cat, I miss him so much .

Sorry for your losses and not trying to be mean, but look at your middle kitties face, it's like he was gunning for both of them to bite it...he's saying now...Mission Accomplished.

I lost a 13 year old Calico cat back in Christmas 07. sucks a lot.

our cat is 4and a half and she's also black. she has not had any major health problems save for a few too many hairballs and a rash in her belly. I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. :(

It must be that much more awful, losing both your kitten and your parents. Make sure to keep all their ashes in a precious place.
Kidding. But as a fellow cat owner, :'(. I'm gonna go hug my kitty now.

I know how you feel. I had to have my cat put down for health issues a few weeks ago. She was only 3yrs old.

So sorry to hear about your loss. Such a horrible feeling.

I remember a few years back my cat passed away. I got him for my fourth birthday and when he went, it was like losing my lifelong best friend. He grew to be 20 years though. He passed away a few days after my 24th birthday too, so it was like he knew and kept in there just to give me that last moment. Nicest cat ever.

RIP Donatello :(
