NBC News: 'Rick and Morty' co-creator Justin Roiland (and Squanch Games Founder/CEO) faces felony domestic violence charges

Doesn't Roiland voice everyone? I assume they already got his dialogue recorded or will use a soundalike?
At this point best case scenario is Billy West does the voices.(But why does Rick sound like Ren and Morty like Stimpy?)

I'm lost.

Roiland hasn't currently been found guilty and his attorney is confident the DA will dismiss the charges once all the evidence has been reviewed.

However, Adult Swim still decided to part ties with Roiland anyway. Not only that, but they're going to continue with Rick and Morty without not just one of the creators, but the guy who voices the two main characters?!

He’s bad for business, what are you confused about?

Damn, I was joking earlier. This is not what I wanted to see. I love Rick and Morty. I watched the show before it was popular and own a couple of Rick and Morty games. I was hoping some how "High on life" would get a PSVR2 port down the line.

It's not just this accusation. It's the whisper campaign of other, non-reported rumors, that I think have WB going "Yeah it is time for us to let you go." WB is already releasing HOGWARTS next month, you think they also want to deal with this? R&M is big. It isn't HP/WW big, particularly with its modern audience ratings.

. . .personally I think you just kill off the characters in the season premiere after a nice confrontation with Rick Prime: Rick gets his win, and dies in the process, and Morty - now without the one person who he really actually cares about - leaves to find himself. Then the rest of the family has their own wacky hijinks, free of the "writers crutch" that is Rick Sanchez (and his anti-dino tech, or anti-look-like-I-was-just-in-a-fight ray).

Stop. R&M was always popular (it certainly got MORE popular, but the first season got off the ground running and kept going into the second and - inarguably - the biggest third season). That's like saying you got in when HBO's GoT "before it was popular."

I dont care what you say. I was watching Rick and Morty, Mr. Pickles, Brickleberry and Paradise PD before anybody I know....

Hollywood is a cesspool yet they hear a sniff of a guy wronging a girl and they throw him to the street.

Always best to wait and see.

See what happened to The Expanse. That preemptive cancelation of and actor ruined the show.

I'm surprised Justin never got some kind of ownership or copyrights to R&M after it took off in popularity...🤔

Edit: Nervermind, just saw some alleged tweets he sent to several minors...what an absolute POS.

. . .takes two seconds to dig into this and yet you just don't. WB (owners of Adult Swim) aren't going to have another Cosby or Weinstein on their hands by slow rolling all the little rumors that are floating around. Then you have the (unverified) Twitter conversations with minors and other fans of the show. The era of baby walking that shit is over, especially if it comes out that WB was aware of this behavior already.

There’s so many cancel culture clowns here. It’s amazing how people can’t separate the work from someone’s personal lives. It’s the whole Harry Potter thing all over again. Too many delicate snowflakes in this world, it made so many people weak minded and frail. Growing up in the 90’s we never had to deal with this shit. No wonder the world is getting worse.
Fatty Arbuckle says that cancel culture has been around a long time.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Justin Roiland. The domestic violence is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of his own knuckles most of the fists will go over a typical woman's head. There's also Justin's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The liberals understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of Roiland's fists, to realize that they're not just haymakers- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Justin Roiland truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Justin's existencial catchphrase "CATCH THESE HANDS BITCH," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Justin Roiland's rage unfolds itself on his wife's face. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Justin Roiland tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

none of that twitter stuff is that bad imo. he was basically being a dick, calling some "jailbait" but he isn't without his personal problems. drinking was one of them.

This pretty much sucks that he was fired from his own show.

You don't think an adult telling an underage girl to become a camwhore and then a sex slave is "that bad"? Where do you weigh in on battery and false imprisonment?

Did he fuck any 16 year old girls? Sending cringe drunk asshole tweets is something that happens on social media daily. I’ve had like 3 people tell me to kill myself this year already.

If he’s actually guilty of a crime he’ll do time. Or it’ll blow over and he got his career ruined by another cancel mob.

Sending sexually suggestive texts to minors is a crime in most states. I think there is now federal stature. The texts are on top of the other felonies that he is charged with.

No thats not that bad. Did he proposition the girl? No he also said he was drunk. Not that its excusable but people are making it out to be more then it is.

Hmm how about you wait until more info is out before passing judgement? You dont really know what happened. For all anyone knows it was another amber heard type making claims.

Amber's case was civil. Roiland has been charged with two felonies. Criminal charges are enough to raise eyebrows since the prosecutor had to have enough evidence to believe the case could be taken to trial. The threshold is much higher.

A fitting eulogy for Roiland's career.

Rick and Morty‘s origin was a short where Doc Brown was trying to convince Marty to suck him off. I’m serious.

Tragic. I guess they can try and make a High on Life 2 without him but thats such a huge blow. One of the best games of last year.

What is wrong with you? If you talk to an underage girl in any kind of sexual manner, you deserve to be crucified for it. He invited a 17 year old girl to a sexualized gathering and put on porn in front of her. I can almost guarantee you, the worst has yet to come out too. This shit will trickle out like it always does

Btw, I was willing to give Roiland the benefit of the doubt on his charges. False imprisonment charge sounds bad, but that is an incredibly vague charge that could mean any number of things. His employers obviously felt the same way, as they didn't break their ties with him until these hebephiliac conversations came out

What does having a daughter have to do with it? I would be uncomfortable if a 40 year old man tried to groom my son into being his sex slave.
Then you should know its FUCKED UP to have an adult to tell a minor that 'they're a bitch that should sell their bodies for sex'... agreed?

Voice actors aren't as irreplaceable as people believe. Think of the great cartoon characters of all time. Mickey Mouse has had 8 actors portray him. Bugs Bunny had 7. Do you remember the initial drama with Ren and Stimpy, when Ren's voice actor was fired by Nickelodeon? The voice of Stimpy, Billy West, just went ahead and did the voice of Ren. It was easy for him.

If the great Mel Blanc can be replaced, Justin Roiland sure as hell can.

Ouch, I guess the show might sink like a stone from here. I’m not sure how much Roiland contributed outside of the voice acting, but I imagine it was a lot. We’ll see.
A lot of input by Roiland to improvise and be creative no doubt. I would just end the show honestly. S6 was the best in years, but it still didn't hold a candle to seasons 1-2. If more fucked up shit comes out, which is likely imo, I just don't see how they recover from a public relations stand point. Sad

There is enough evidence surrounding him where cutting ties is the right choice. Court is where we find out if he goes to jail or not, or has to pay fines. What his employer chooses to do doesn’t hinge on any of that.

Employers are cutting ties with him mostly for creepy sexualized messages with underage girls. That is way more of a PR concern for employers than a potential he said/she said domestic dispute. There's no way he is working again in the entertainment industry. Hollywood is trying to wipe away all preconceived notions of Hebephilia/pedophila

Honestly the improvisation had become a crutch. Not having that may force them to become more creative in the writing and be for the better in the end

Doesn't he own R&M on some level? Somewhere? Or is that why he just created knock offs for High on Life. I'll always give the male the benefit of the doubt in recent times of accusations before anytype of guilt is proven which has been the play of the last 5 years, however the tweets of personal messages now coming to light isn't a great look if proven legit and if legit why not before now. So many questions.

Are you autistic? It's so obviously a joke I can't believe what I just read from you.

Maybe your IQ is so low you can't discern jokes and get offended whenever you read the words 'high IQ' ?

Deary me.

All this stuff combined with Roland is looking pretty damning. I'm judging before his trial I know. Makes me sad another creative is likely an abusive sex pest, because I love rick and Morty and the solar opposites. Makes sense though because I do have a wery, wery high IQ.

Always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Rick + Morty; more lows than highs for me when it came to the episodes. The show has attacked its own fans on a number of occasions over their desire to see resolutions to various plot threads, etc. while the writers didn't want to go down the continuity route.

So, creator fired and new voices for the main characters? Yeah, I'm out.
